Are You Getting Paid When Your Geocaching?

I'd never hunt for a cache on company time! I can't find them on my own time. I do get paid to browse the forums though.

I've got to keep a low profile since I introduced my remote manager to geocaching. As long as she doesn't know my GC handle... mums the word :)

Note to self: If she ever finds out my GC name - delete this post or I'm toast!

I've never been paid while geocaching, but I have been paid while benchmarking. I used to run traffic control for a paving outfit. Working on major roadways, I would talk to the state inspector about nearby benchmarks and locate them in between setting up lane closures. Unfortunately, we never paved a road close to a cache that I hadn't already found.

Nowadays, I work at a (wood) chip mill, 10 miles from home. Not much caching to do on the mill yard, where I stay all day.

Since I'm self-employed (my wife and I own a restaurant/catering company), I'm never really off duty unless on vacation far away (once a year if I'm really lucky). I even took calls during the trip to Geowoodstock3. Of course this means that I'm also technically 'on' while out to dinner occasionally and even travelling sometimes. B) Sometimes I'll even look for a cache during daytime errands-bank/postoffice/shopping runs. The only problem is that I do not get paid very much, but I eat well and love my boss. :P

We attended GCQAXT, Geocaching for Girl Scouts, today, and boy did we get paid. We taught a fantastic and frighteningly talented group of Girl Scout leaders how to geocache. One of the other concurrent classes was Advance Wilderness Cooking. They paid us with baked chicken, corn on the cob, dutch oven cornbread, green beans, ambrosia, cupcakes, and deviled eggs! They boiled the eggs in the coals by placing them in dixie cups filled with water. Best pay I ever got for any activity, and it was for geocaching!!!

As a deputy sheriff, I'm "on call" 24/7, so technically, I'm geocaching on duty, however, I don't get paid for it. On a side note, I've been involved in SAR tasks which have brought me very close to some caches, but I've always left them for later.

"Hmm... Timmy's still lost, but... I haven't logged that cache yet... well..."

Decisions, decisions. I'd leave Timmy sit while I signed the log.

But that's just me.

NO! Noone should cheat his employer! Someone like Dromo... up above is just using his own time when he's "over there." Lots of us can arrange to find a cache when we happen to be that way, if on our own time.

How could you ever even think about cacheing on company time? (All praise the company!)

Why would you ever want to deprive the company of the time you sold them? (The company above all else!)

You should never use the internet except for work purposes. (All hail to the company!)

You should never breath while on the company time without permission. (The company is my life!)

(The company is our friend and our only reason for living. Yeah Company!)

I have never had the opportunity to cache on company time ... forums are another thing. B)

I'm on salary, and also on call 24/7. Sometimes if I am traveling from one part of the state to another, if I need to take a break from driving, I will try to take that break and work in a cache. I spend a few nights a month in hotels, so I try to find a cache or two to do if there are no other things going on, such as late dinner meetings or something work connected.

yes, I get paid to geocache...as a Recreation Specialist for the City of Duluth, I run 6 recreation centers and take groups of kids on geocaching trips...mainly in the summer, but do also some trips in the spring and summer....also, since I wrote the geocaching policy for the city, have checked on cache placements when their placement is in question (i.e., puts the city at risk for lawsuits, etc.)....my boss also gave me the go-ahead to check the locations of all the caches in the city, but I have so many other job duties, I haven't quite done that yet (even with approval, I'd feel too guilty caching all day)

It's wonderful!!!

and yes, I also cache on my own time as well
