+nscaler Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 (edited) Well no one has mentioned this idea before - I think. How about a global geocoin? I grabbed an image from Google Earth, added some text and got: -----------------------Front----------------------------------------------------------Back Just to get the creative juices going. Take this idea and fly with it! Edited September 17, 2005 by nscaler

Team Sidewinder Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 COOL !!!!!!!! idea. Put me down for 2. We poor buggers here in montana don't even have a state coin.
+graylling Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I would love to get 2 of those when they make it into production.
+AtlantaGal Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I'd buy or trade for 1. Get them trackable on gc.com and I might be interested in more.
+The Foote Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Amazing how someone says let's design something and it turns into I'll take this many........ This Geocoin craze is going wild!!! HAHAHAHA
SCP-173 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Amazing how someone says let's design something and it turns into I'll take this many........ This Geocoin craze is going wild!!! HAHAHAHA That's exactly part of the reason it's becoming less and less appealing. I also love how there will be a limit to how many of a coin you can order and tons of people will totally disregard that in their requests. Read the whole post... jeez!
+SilverMarc Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Amazing how someone says let's design something and it turns into I'll take this many........ This Geocoin craze is going wild!!! HAHAHAHA I thought the same thing tonight too, and laughed at how fast even "proto-coins" are ready to be snapped up! Oh, here's my new geocoin, anyone interested? [grin] --Marc September 17, 2005 @ 10:22 PM N40° 46.565' W073° 58.756' I'm only kidding, no coin collectors are expected to take it personally, okay!
+Renegade Knight Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Coins like this are why I posed the question of what is a geocoin?
SCP-173 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Coins like this are why I posed the question of what is a geocoin? I know exactly what you mean and couldn't agree more. Something tells me this idea will be used by the coin club.
+Kilted Cacher Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) I must agree with Varsgeld, I can only support buying a few coins per month and if everyone started making coins out of their 'ideas'(I am not not knocking the Earth Geocoin idea, by the way I would take 2 ) it would become less and less appealing. Right now I am just trying to keep up with all the coins coming out and trying my best not to miss any. When are we going to have a Geocoin Swap Event anyway? One big event where everyone can get together and sell, trade, buy, show-off coins, etc. Edited September 18, 2005 by Kilted Cacher
+Fundamental Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Looks nice I'm always interested if it's trackable in gc.com
+nscaler Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 Well no one has mentioned this idea before - I think. How about a global geocoin? I grabbed an image from Google Earth, added some text and got: -----------------------Front----------------------------------------------------------Back Just to get the creative juices going. Take this idea and fly with it! I came up with this idea, and it is just an idea so far, to make a coin that would meet the needs of the many, not just the few. As one "bugger" put it, some states don't have a coin. There is a USA, Canada, German and EU coin. I'm just looking out for the rest of the world. Yes, there may be a "glut" of geocoins out there. And that is unforunate. I collect coins too, but I also have put USA, Texas and three different kinds of California geocoins in caches (five in a new cache I placed Murphy TB/Geocoin Hotel Cache). I am just putting the idea out there. If people are interested in the idea and someone (like GC.com) wanted to make the coin, great! I added a tracking # and trackable part after the "what is a geocoin" remark . If this coin came out, I would get extras to place in caches. I think that around 2,000 - 3,000 of these coins should be made, although I doubt that would happen. If we make so many of these coins that the collectors are satisfied, maybe we can get some in some caches and moving around the world. Wouldn't that be cool.

+Redwing_dave Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Sigh! Bank account dwindling.... okay, if this were to come out, I'm sure the COOL group would be up for approximately 40 of them.
+Lemon Fresh Dog Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Hmmmm... maybe this is where I get off the ride. At some point I just have to stop trying to get EVERY coin issued. I'll take 5 of these though.

+Cav Scout Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I think I should of read all the notes first before I posted anything....
+Brian - Team A.I. Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Sidewinder, If I can get this AZ coin done soon enough (working on it with my caching teammate back in AZ), I plan on making the MT coin my next project.
+junglehair Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Funny how everyone is already placing their orders, but no one actually offered suggestions to the design, which I believe was the original intent of this post. I would suggest something like: Geocaching: The World is our Playground or Where in the World is that cache? Just a few thoughts off the top of my head. I do like the idea of a earth geocoin though. Put me down for 2
Team Sidewinder Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Sidewinder, If I can get this AZ coin done soon enough (working on it with my caching teammate back in AZ), I plan on making the MT coin my next project. WOW! That would be great. Please keep me posted on your progress. Do you mean we could become part of the human race again. Thanks team sidewinder
+nscaler Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 Okay, lets start witha blank slate (as it were). Here is just the earth pictures. Submit ideas for the wording. Like: Geocaching: The World is our Playground Where in the World is that cache? Feel free to use the blanks to add your own artwork to.
+SilverMarc Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 When are we going to have a Geocoin Swap Event anyway? One big event where everyone can get together and sell, trade, buy, show-off coins, etc. There is a Coin Swap coming up on Sunday October 2nd in New Jersey, just outside of New York City! Here'e the link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a7096884-1ef2-4989-b131-8b536f119fe0 and here's the Waypoint: GCQH6H Looks like fun! --Marc September 18, 2005 @ 4:36 PM N40° 46.565' W073° 58.756'
+Shop99er Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I would like one. And, I sorta liked the original wording.
+nscaler Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 I would like one. And, I sorta liked the original wording. Just trying out all the options.

Thanks for the info.
+tiki-4 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 These are cool! Wonder who gets the profit? Probably buy 5 as well.....
+Semper Questio Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) I think I'd be in for a couple of these I like the "World is our playground" idea. Edited September 18, 2005 by Semper Questio
+nscaler Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 These are cool! Wonder who gets the profit? Probably buy 5 as well..... No Ferengi here
Son of Cyclops Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I would like to trade a Cyclops & Son geocoin for one of those and maybe buy some.
+PassingWind Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I hereby call dibs on production of the Uranus Coin. I already got it !!
Rupert2 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) Guys, this concept is really lame. Edited September 19, 2005 by Rupert2
+nscaler Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) That is Great Steve! Could the continents be in 3D? Edited September 19, 2005 by nscaler
+Bigdawg! Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 This is kind of stupid but here goes" Caching, one world at a time" Put me down for 3
+avroair Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I like it. Would like to see a compass border around the edge and may be the cardinal points somewhere on it. Otherwise there is nothing to make it caching specific.
+1markymark1 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 By gosh I think that I would have to have a couple of these too..... 1markymark1
+Jerseytrex Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 "Exploring the blah blah blah...one cache at a time" is overused so please use the "Marble" quote or something to that effect. How about "Caching on the 3rd Rock from the Sun" or some other cool slang? Try and find a better font than regular Times Roman as it doesnt stand out as well. Try something spacey or big and bold for the headline and use a smaller font for the smaller text... I think a border would be cool but not too big. Maybe use a Fire, Earth Wind, & Water symbols around the perimeter? For the tracking number space use a Space Shuttle or something at the bottom. Just some thoughts... Mike
+LarryGC Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Very creative. A Goo Goo Google Earth Geocoin Shouldn't the date be 2006? By the time anyone would make them? How much would they be?

+maggieszoo Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 My 2 cents: I love the idea of the earth in 3-D and full color. I like "Where in the World is that cache?" I like the compass points. I like the idea of a "spacier" font. And I want 2 of them!!
+-SuMa- Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Very nice design. I would like to take 2, shipping to Germany. best regards Marc
+Eartha Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 You'd better check if there is a copyright on the image before going into production.
+Cog&Gil Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 We'd like 5 of the cool blue global geocoins.
+bikinibottomfeeders Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I like the world is our playground idea or maybe we could go eco and have something about CITO?? I'm not very good with imaging so if someone wants to use my idea run with it. I would like 2-3 coins depending on how much. thanx, BBF
