+briansnat
I've noticed a few profiles that list the geocachers people have met on the trail, at events, etc... +CurmudgeonlyGal
Events too?! I dunno that I could do that. But I do get to cache with OhJoy! again tomorrow... It's been way too long since that's happened! And... I'd LOVE to meet you, Snat, on the trail somewhere. Or, hell, even an event. -=- michelle Quote Link to comment
+sept1c_tank
I only wish I had kept a list; my number is probably close to 100, too. Quote Link to comment
+robert
Wish I had started a list, too, I've met quite a few. Maybe I'll go back through some events I've attended and find folks I actually did meet (early on I probably didn't meet everyone though now I make a point of it). Then there are some I've met on the trail but I don't think that number would be very high--hasn't happened that often! Nice topic, Brian. As much as I like caching, I find it's always better with the people! Quote Link to comment

+KKTH3
What about cachers that you have met at places completely unrelated to caching? I have only met one cacher on the trail. All the rest have been either at the one event I attended or unrelated to caching. Oh, one exception - I did meet a cacher when I attempted to get a FTF on one of his caches. I couldn't find it. Just before I left the guy came up and I could tell it was the cache owner and introduced myself to him. He was there to place the cache I was looking for. I ended up not getting the FTF on that cache even though it was offered to me - would be kinda silly for me to claim a "find" if I was there during the placement. I went back the next day and got to be second to find - but it was still a find! Quote Link to comment

biketothetop and pinklady
You know I have felt like I am the only one in my community who geocaches. The other day I had the fortune of seeking a cache some twenty or so miles off of the beaten path. Upon arriving at the cache, I saw a person with what looked like a GPS. Not seeing anyone with one of these gadgets I yelled down at him, "hey what are you doing down there!" He looked up and yelled back, "Geocaching!". I was so excited to see him. We sat and talked awhile about the sport, good cache containers, good trading items, travel bugs, and GPSr's. So....just one! Quote Link to comment

Heck, i was driving down the highway last week over on the other side of Austin when i saw two ladies out looking around near their car. Had a pretty good idea that they were geocachers so i made a u-turn and stopped to see. Sure enough, they were looking for a microcache! I ended up searching with them and afterwards we got to chat for a little bit. Meeting the Txrvkats made my day! Quote Link to comment
+mtn-man
I've met so many people. I consider myself very fortunate. I met a family of cachers at a rest area stop this weekend no less. I've met them before at our GGA events. They came up as I was just getting started and had not found the cache yet. I've met lots of cachers on the trail and have arranged to meet some folks specifically to go find some caches as I travel. Usually I cache alone on the road though, since work does not afford me a true "schedule" when I am traveling (or its just too insane). I was at the very first event cache and have met probably around 500 GA Geocachers and their famlies at our events over time. I have been to events in Colorado, Alabama, Tennessee and Maryland as well. I have also been to all three of the GeoWoodstock events. I have been fortunate to meet all of the Groundspeak crew. That was a huge treat. In addition, over time I have met many of the reviewers personally too. It has been fun to meet some of them as I have traveled around. The admins and reviewers are an extraordinary group of people. I'm pretty sure I'm over 1,000 people by now. One of the fun parts of this for me has been meeting people. I should try to figure out all the folks I've met at or near a cache or passed on the trail. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Zero forum regulars, though a couple of forum irregulars for me. I've met a lot of local cachers across Southern Idaho, and a few just passing through. Nowhere near what people meet at mega events though. Quote Link to comment

+Snoogans
Geocachers are one of the finest subsets of humanity IMHO. It's geocachers themselves that keep me in this great sport. It certainly isn't all the cool dollar store crap and McToys. I have been to over 40 events across 4 states. I can honestly say I've met over 1,000. I have met many of the truly great names in caching both statswise and forum personalities and I even bumped into CCCooperAgency on a cache in Georgia. It's not every day that you bump into the TOP gc.com cacher while cachin' a thousand miles from home. Quote Link to comment

However, I'm loate to start a list as I'm sure I'd forget a bunch of them. This does bring me to the subject of letterboxing where there is an additional number many keep track of--eXchanged. This is personal stamp images you've exchanged with other boxers. It's kind of a way to keep track of everyone you've met. Unfortunately, keeping a personal journal is not something that is done in geocaching. Most rely mainly on this site to keep track of their history, so such things are often lost. +maggieszoo
Hmmmm......let's see........not including events, I've met......uh...... ONE!! Slammer180 was as surprised as I was, I think, to run into another cacher. Quote Link to comment
+wimseyguy
Too many to even begin counting. I've attended over two dozen events, including GW2&3 where I met hundreds of new geo-pals, many of whom I felt like I already knew through these forums. I have also met 25% of the posters in this thread as well. can't wait to meet the rest of you, even you SMDMD. When I first started caching I was always a solo cacher. Now more often than not, it's a social activity with geopals. The best though is the unplanned encounter on the trails. Last night five of us got together for beer and pizza and didn't log any smileys, but had plenty. Last Sunday was a 12+ hour run with two others. See-it really is all about the numbers! ZoopD|ngle
Maybe it's just the water up here but having been on bed rest for the past couple of months I've spent a lot of time reading some of the local caching sites (I'll spare you the gory details like the names) and reading a lot of the logs for the caches on my to-do list and, quite frankly, I'm too scared to meet any of the local cachers. Some of these people just ain't right and a lot of them are just plain mean. Quote Link to comment
+Sue Gremlin
Can I claim a FTF on people? Only if you have seen them naked. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Of my list of 115: 10 were met for the first time on the trail while hiking or geocaching. 16 were met for the first time when we joined up for a group cache hunt. 5 I knew previously from work or met them at work. 3 I met at a non geocaching event and found out they were geocachers while talking with them All the rest were met at geocaching events.
