+BadAndy Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 We're in the first stages of planning a Mega event in the heart of the Rockies, a stones throw from Yellowstone Natl park. Before we commit our own money and begin fundraising efforts for this project, we'd like to gauge the actual interest in this event. We envision a Rendevous style gathering with chuckwagon and dutch oven meals and a tent city. Tents and other needed gear will be made available for attendees, as well as RV hookups and local hotels. A guided day trip to Yellowstone is also on the agenda. Timeframe is Aug 3-5 2007 Is this something you'd attend? Quote

+Team_Talisman Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Count Team_Talisman as very possible... Quote
+Cpt.Blackbeard Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Would I? Yes, been to Yellowstone three times now and still love it. Next year however I'm already tentativley committed to a trip to Glacier, probably in June, doubt I could swing two trips out west in one year. I won't say no yet though, I'll just have to see what happens. Quote
+carleenp Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I would be interested. That doesn't mean I could make it, there is no way to know that this far ahead of time, but the interest would certainly be there. Quote
+Team GPSaxophone Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Count me in on the interested list. Quote
+Snoogans Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Count me in on the interested list. Count me out for the first one. I'm burning my vacation time to get married/honeymoon in April of 07, but I would be interested in it for 2008, if you do it again. Quote
+Maingray Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Count me in on the interested list. Count me out for the first one. I'm burning my vacation time to get married/honeymoon in April of 07, but I would be interested in it for 2008, if you do it again. You could combine the two Events Quote
+Blue Power Ranger Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I guess it depends on the stone's throw from Yellowstone. You throwing that stone west into Montana or Idaho? If so, we may be there! Quote
+BadAndy Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 The stone would land in Idaho at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds. Ok it'd be an allstar throw, but it's less than an inch on my map. Quote
+briansnat Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I'm only going if Trackinthebox is going. Quote
+webscouter. Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I haven't cached in Idaho yet so I would be interested. Also been several years since I was in Yellowstone. Quote
+unicyclist Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 That would be fun to show up, but for some reason I dont think they will let me take a one week break from Basic Training. But if God grants wishes, I will be there!!! Quote
+StarBrand Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I'm only going if Trackinthebox is going. Quote
RockyMtnReviewer Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 We're in the first stages of planning a Mega event in the heart of the Rockies, a stones throw from Yellowstone Natl park... I would likely attend this event. Quote
+kc8bdr Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Rocky Mountains, geocaching!!! Yea, I am interested Quote
+briansnat Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Seriously though, it is something that I would love to attend. Whether or not I would be able to is a different story though. Quote
+Mr. 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Hmmm, I'm very interested in this, but like others have mentioned, I can't commit 100% right now. I have to make sure reality = my wants. Quote
+LDove Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I'm only going if Trackinthebox is going. LMAO! Anyways... I would be interested 2. But of course the main question for me is $$$. How much do you anticipate charging for tents, do you charge for admission, etc...???? I have never been to a mega event so more details would be appreciated! Quote
Neos2 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 It's a good idea, and you should do it. I won't be able to attend because I teach and that is the week we go back to school. Even though it's not on actual school days, there is just no way I can leave town the first couple of weeks of school without regretting it for months afterward. For most families and college students, that would make a great last trip of the summer before school starts. If you are interested in attracting the younger crowd. Quote
Tahosa and Sons Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 We're in the first stages of planning a Mega event in the heart of the Rockies, a stones throw from Yellowstone Natl park. Is this something you'd attend? If I went that far North I don't think I would be in the Heart of the Rockies. I would love to attend but I have a scheduled commitment on that weekend allready. Quote
+9Key Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I would love to go as its less than 3 hours from my folk's house in Utah, but I doubt I'd be able to spend vacation time to go. Why not do it on Labor Day weekend? Quote
+Blue Power Ranger Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 (edited) Why not do it on Labor Day weekend? If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Eastern Idaho State Fair opens on Labor Day weekend which would pretty much strike that date out as a possibility at that location. Edited October 19, 2006 by Blue Power Ranger Quote
+team5150 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 The kiddos and I would be very interested in attending, as we are planning a trip through Yellowstone, Idaho, and down to Nevada to visit family around that time anyway!!! Definitely keep us updated!!! Quote
Keystone Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 "Regular" event caches should be discussed in the applicable regional or national forum. Events that cross regional or national boundaries can find a home in the Organized Geocaching Forum. That is where GeoWoodstock threads have thrived for several years. I'm moving this thread to Organized Geocaching, because I'm an optimist and I think the event will draw from at least three different regions. I would be happy to move it again to a regional forum upon request from the OP. Quote
+Mudfrog Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 We thoroughly enjoyed our one and only trip to Yellowstone and have always wanted to go back. Combining this with a fun geocaching Event is something we would really be iinterested in. Like others, we can't commit at this moment, but we would sure like make the trip if everything worked out! Quote
+zoltig Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Well if you did a "stones throw" from the Beartooth Range, it should travel a lonnnng way. Heck yeah I am interested!!! (he sez with triple exclamation points). Where do we log our "will attend" notes? Quote
+4BOWS Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Sounds great. Unless something comes up, we'll be there. Quote
+BadAndy Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 (edited) To answer a few questions.. The fairgrounds is booked solid until Aug which is when they basically close down in preperations for the fair over Labor day. Since geocachers are so likable, they have allowed us use of the grounds for our event on the first weekend of aug. Some of the ideas being passed around.... Tents and camping gear... For those driving to the event by all means byo camping gear or camper or RV. For those flying in or who don't already own a tent and gear, we'll put together an inexpensive (around $100.00) set of equipment including tent, sleeping bags and other camping essentials. After the event we'll provide a box to pack it into and ship it back home as well as dropoff service to the post office. This would be an excellant way to get started camping. Meal service would be chuckwagon style for friday dinner, breakfast and dinner on sat and sun breakfast. There would be a registration package with swag (coin tshirt etc) and a meal pass on a per person basis. Cost should be minimal (under $25.00). A chartered bus (or 2 depending on registrations) would depart early sunday morning for a guided tour of Yellowstones most popular venues (and virtuals), returning sunday afternoon. This charter is an additional fee, as yet unknown. Meet and greet (and caching) on friday... exhibits and seminars (and caching) on sat and goodbyes/yellowstone trip on sunday (with some caching thrown in). Please remember that much of this is still pretty fluid and other than the date and location, little is set in stone. *edited to add* There are flush toilets and showers onsite. +LDove Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Great! Thanks so much for the additional information, we would definitely be interested and may even bring our newly graduated from college daughter along for the ride! Quote
+Shootie Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I really like the idea. Having a mega event so close to my home would really be cool. I think it would be pretty safe to say I'll be there. Is there anything I can do to help out? Quote

+bunnygirl83703 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Is this Mega Event posted in the Idaho Geocachers Forum? I'll keep that weekend open! Thanks for organizing it! Quote
+Jennifer&Dean Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Oh YEAH! I can almost guarantee that it will conflict with my work schedule BUT we will try our hardest to show up! Once this is set, I'll post links on the Montana forums. -Jen Quote
+dshifter Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I would be very interested in making this event. Sounds great! Quote
n0wae Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Yes, we would be interested also. We've lived in Colorado for 20 years now have never made it up to Yellowstone. This would be a great excuse to finally make it to the park and see some new caches and cachers. Quote

+medmantom Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 wow, what a great event this would be, you can count us in. We would love to have an excuse to take a trip to Yellowstone and area. medmantom, waterfairy and kuro Quote
+maggieszoo Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 We are interested, but won't know if we can get vacation until later. Sounds like fun. Could we ship our own camping gear somewhere and then we could handle shipping it back? Just seems silly to buy more when we have a used once tent. Quote

Making a kit available is mainly for those that don't want to hassle with it, or for those that don't already won the basics. Quote
+MrCOgeo Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I would be very interested as the time frame works for me and looks like I am going to miss the GeoCoin Mega-Event in Feb 2007. Quote

+medmantom Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 This Forum has been pretty quiet. Is this event a go, I need to put in for vacation and really want to attend this event. Quote
+grampapa Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Sounds like an excelent event as I have enjoyed mountainman style rendezvous in the past from the Idaho panhandle and one in Jackson hole (back about '93) but it's been awhile. need to rummage up my possables. and I'm also hopelessly addicted to geo- caching(need to look into those cachaholic meetings). but that's a stretch from the panhandle to the poky area. cannot commit to showing up but can dream and offer any assistance that might help from here.
