+Zartimus
Is there banjo music in this movie? We can only hope. You know I find these gendre/'tech' type movies are like pizza or sex. Even if they are really really bad, it's still pretty good because I enjoy the subject matter so much<grin>.. Mmmmm Pizza... Quote Link to comment

+aka Monkey
I guess if they really wanted to make an accurate movie about Geocaching, the star would be a balding, overweight guy in his late 30s. He'd have a bit of facial hair (not bold enough for a full beard), and he'd drag his dog around with him to caches in his Jeep®. The movie would be about a girl whose life hung in the balance and the clues to save her were in the cache, but sadly the cache got muggled, so the girl's as good as dead. Luckily they are able to make her gravesite into a Waymark, so it's not a total loss. Not nearly as much of a loss as the time spent making (and watching) the movie. Quote Link to comment
+BadAndy
It's a little known fact that Andrew from the movie is based on my alter ego (BenevolentAndrew). He even borrowed my Sportrak Map for the shoot. Quote Link to comment
+martinell
That looks to be another lame movie with bad acting and sub-par plot. Quote Link to comment

I wouldn't mind seeing the movie, but I'm too cheap to see movies in the theater! I wouldn't mind getting in on that ultimate GPS contest, though! Especially if it's that guy's $2 million! Goin' on a GPS hunt! Me and Andrew! Now it's stuck in your head again! Quote Link to comment
Wendigo7
I just got an email from someone named Phil Harris with a Yahoo account. Has anyone else heard of this? It may be a hoax because it doesn't sound legit to me. Unless it pans out people might want to be cautious before joining the mailing list which is what it seems that they are after. Here is the text of the message: There is a film being made about GPS scavenger hunts. They are also having a real GPS scavenger hunt that will be worth $50k. It's a friend of mine doing it. I told him I would try to get some feedback from us GPS gaming geeks. So if you have thoughts on it, let me know. Anyhow, it should be cool. The website is: http://www.gpsthemovie.com GPS the Movie is legit. If you check out their website, they have a trailer for the movie. If you watch the trailer and read the story page, it sounds like it could be fairly cool. The only bad thing is "no-name actors". They look like a bunch of yuppies headed for Crystal Lake to meet Jason. Personally, I feel it will go straight to video. Which is a lot like going to jail in Monopoly. Do Not Pass Go. Do Not collect Two Hundred Dollars. I hope I'm wrong, I'd like to see this movie give geocachers a big boost in the sport. Quote Link to comment
bogleman
Looks like it would make a nice mystery cache - watch the movie to get the clues, although there may be commercialism involved in it somewhere. Quote Link to comment
+V-I-cacher
I got the following feedback, when inquiring about that "based on a true story" claim: That is a little confusing on the website, which we areworking on changing. It's actually inspired by true events. There have been a few news articles/incidents written on how strange unexpected things were found while going on a gps hunt, including a dead body or two. You'll have to see the movie, but the fact that some strange things have been found got us thinking as writers and so the actual movie was inspired by true events. The game should be the one that talks of the "based on true story" aspect. This is all part of the cool integrated game that is going to be very slick. It has not officially been announced yet. I think you'll really like what we are putting into the game/contest. It should be fun. I hope you like the movie and the game! ...inspired, eh? Quote Link to comment

I find it interesting that the film's producers still don't use the word "geocaching," instead using "GPS hunt." Maybe geocaching sounds too French. But maybe it's good that they don't use the word "geocaching," since it sounds like the film is focusing more on dead bodies than the nice family-friendly game of geocaching. We don't want folks thinking we routinely find bodies when caching. Edited October 28, 2005 by geognerd Quote Link to comment

+CYBret
From the website. "The Story" section: SUMMARY: A group of adventure seeking college kids embark on a GPS treasure hunt in the Northwest wilderness. They are led to believe they will find two million dollars in cash. When they arrive at the treasure location they find what appears to be a grave. They dig up the grave to find a small coffin. What they find inside is shocking. Are the contents of the coffin real or is it all part of the game? Great...more digging. Will more people see this than saw Law & Order? Eh....probably not. At the very least, this movie will do for Geocaching what Space Balls did for NASA. Bret Quote Link to comment

pdop121212
Definetely commercialism involved if they have major bands song on the trailor. Most likely this looks semi mainstream. Still I love stupid horror thrillers. Quote Link to comment

See the movie, answer a question about it, get to claim the find. Either way, both types of caches can't be set up anymore. But the mystery cache might be able to be done. See the movie, get the clues to fill in the final location of a cache. EDIT: I should have heeded the warnings of the others on here. But I went ahead and watched the trailer.......... +lostinjersey
So... WHAT is the FINAL status?? Movie released? Anyone See it? Fianl reviews??? Lemme know............. it says 2006 release... BUT it's not listed in the Yahoo movies section for upcoming movies, which incidently contains films that are as far out as 2008, not to mention tons of movies that has been bounced around forever but aren't actually going anywhere like JP IV, Indy IV, T4 (whats with all the fours?) True Lies 2 and so on.... nor is it listed on netflix either. so I think that it may go right to VDD or they're still working out a release date. Note that the movie Cache is not about geocaching. It's a french flick about a reporter who getting voyeuristic videotapes of his family that are creepy and threatening because it's someone is watching them. BUT WHY? Looks cool for a foreign film. tttedzeins
It is however listed on IMDB. Still sounds pretty lame, something like those rollerblade movies they came out with Quote Link to comment
