  1. do you have in your inventory a TB, whose tags are long gone? You sent out both original tag and the copy tag and both got MIA? If you are NOT planning on otherwise tagging an item with it AND your TB-code is *COMPLETELY NUMERICAL* AND starts with a "1", I'd like you to transfer the TB to me. I either have a non-numerical TB I could trade for you, or I could paypal you a nominal amount (not buying any item, just the tracking code, after all). If the moderator of this board thinks it is better to move this over to the GPS-garage sale: go ahead! :-P thx V-I-cacher
  2. hi there, quite urgently I would need a helping hint for converting a regular Map I have in TIFF-format into a referenced Geo-Tiff file to use with mapping software. I've been reading various things e.g. about GeoTiff Examiner (discontinued) but even with this nifty program at hand, I still would not know how to mark coordinates. Is there any easier program out there; load the file, click a pixel/position and edit the value to known Data? Would really need this quite urgently, as I'm heading for a trip and don't have the map ready :-(
  3. I've installed GCzII and find it... almost unusable! I need either street or topo-maps for my caching purposes... not just a compass... ...any other ideas for WinMo?
  4. Yes, ETEN is WinMo. I've been reading about GCzII here in the forum, but there seems to be some problematic between the program and GC? Or are these problems limited to "live polling" of caches and/or "live logging"? I'm used to compiling pocket queries to load into MemoryMap/Mapopolis via GSAK so as long as that is working independently of the GC/GCzII issues, I'd be OK... no?
  5. after over 18 months of being "knocked out of the game" when my smartphone died; I finally managed to get my hands on a "new"(used) smartphone... ...I had the MIO before, so this time I'm going with the ETEN. I had various software on the Mio; mostly was using memory-map for caching and a bootlegged Mapopolis for road-navigation. Before I start playing with the new acquisition, I thought I should ask first... ...don't want to be installing and installing and installing again... :-P Any simple set-up available? Or do I need to go thru the awkward config of memory map as I had before? Any helpful hints greatly appreciated. cache on! V-I-cacher
  6. hmm... interesting. What I find "odd" about the descriptions of these phones, is that they state "GPS/A-GPS" as their GPS-feature. That appears to me rather non-descript :-P what chips/GPS-hardware do they use? nice to see that they have the 5MP cameras on board, and I'm sure the miniSD is "handier" when it comes to the size and thus the size of the phone/unit. Too bad tho that I can't use my regular SD-cards :-( prize? I'm not gonna let myself be dragged down by a prize if something is actually worth it (I only have to be able to afford it :-P) ...I looked thru the pdadb site... while I heard a lot good stuff about HTC, apparently only the E-Ten Glofiish series has the SirfIII with WAAS... ...looking at the X900, but now have to find a source for it...
  7. as I wrote: I need an *unlocked* SIM-phone, as I'm gonna use it with my pre-existing FIDO number
  8. hi there, back in January my Mio bit the dust :-( in a car crash while we have so far recovered physically and mentally there has not been a replacement for the GPSr yet! and thus barely any caching action at all! I'd like to buy a new GPS-cellphone, but it has to be with integrated GPS (such as a SirfIII chipset). I have looked at the X800 Glofiish, but it appears to be also already 1 year old already! Technology moves fast, so there *must* be something better out there by now. Requirements: - unlocked (with SIM-card slot) - full touch screen (no keyboard and no or hardly any buttons) - GPS (SirfIII or better) - WM6 (or better) preferably: - SDcard slot (still have my cards from the Mio!) - GPS-software included - 5MP (or better) camera/video must be compatible with bluetooth stereo headphones for MP3/Video playback any leads are very much appreciated! cache on! sure... PM on it's way
  11. posted in another thread, before reading that I should post here: there is a TYPO on the /track/ for the Promotionals: "Jeep 4x4 Geocaching Challege" instead of: "Jeep 4x4 Geocaching Challenge"
  12. there is a TYPO: "Jeep 4x4 Geocaching Challege" make that: "Jeep 4x4 Geocaching Challenge"
  13. now there is an idea for cachers: - pack into your gear one of those "crank-up"-radios and set them to full blast while in the forrest - alternatively any other handy stereo-system with enough batteries to tootle away for the entire trip (I suggest tapes/cds with "noise" uncommon to the woods... a tape of singing birds is probably not going to do the trick... also make sure not to damage your own ears!)
  14. sorry for missing out and not having read the entire thread (16 pages after all!) ...is this still all to be just "known" or... "may" we google?
  15. Somebody should show the widow how to log the find... he would have wanted it!
  16. I certainly hope, that the smiley behind that is a sign of you simply jesting! It's like tearing a couple of pages of logbook out and all of a sudden say: nanananana, you didn't find it! ?!?? Back to the subject: It is not a rare occassion to find TB and coins in caches they were never logged into, by whoever moved them. So what? Next finder straightens out the situation online... ...I usually go the extra mile on that and after retrieving the coin from where it was signed into, "drop it" into the cache I really found it at, then retrieve it from there... If there is anything to ask from non-online-logging cachers, then it is to leave the travel-items alone... ...but what if they can help them on their mission? If they want to help an item on it's mission, I say, let them!
  17. maybe it could be divided up into two tabs: "trackables owned", "trackables found" each tabbed-page could then have 3 or 4 columns instead of the current 2. make the font 1 or 2 sizes smaller and/or make long names of trackables into two-liners (the icons are big enough to support two to three lines of text next to them) just some brainstorming...
  18. retrieved the coin from the post-office today, thx! (now as you posted a picture of it, maybe I should have gotten the silver one instead... it appears to look a tad better...)
  19. if categorizing really is a big problem, as - as has been said - anybody could e.g. make another state-type coin, maybe the bare minimum of categorizing that could be done independantly of all that: categorize in icon-styles: - jeep-icons - round-icons - square-icons - rectangle-icons - GIF-animated-icons - other-shapes secondary it could be sorted alphabetically...
  20. Whenever I look into the "Trackables"-Page of a Profile I'm appolled at the lack of order within the list of items! various Jeep-Icons, country-coin icons, state-coin icons, signal-coin icons and all other coin-icons are intermingled and mixed up... ...if these could be categorized it would make for a much cleaner look: TB-icon Personal-coin-icon (coins without icon of their own) Jeep-Icons (in order of the years they were put out: yellow, white, green...) Signal-Icons (in order of their production: Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr...etc...) Country-Icons (US, Canada, Germany, UK....etc...[probably Alphabetically]) State-Icons (first US-states, then Canadian provinces...[probably Alphabetically]) All other coins (more possible categories: personal Cacher-coins, personal Cacher-team-coins, City-Coins, Caching-Themed coins [CITO, GEOWoodstock, APE-coins,...etc],.........and so on) As lists of coins can get quite long, maybe there could be more columns... maybe sacrifice some text or use a smaller FONT
  21. I see with much joy, that the coin I've sent made it to Germany - finally! Now starts the new waiting game: Let's see when I get my WM-coin...
  22. still no news about my coin?!?? I sent it off so long ago... even if they mailed it by boat! it should be there by now?!? no?
  23. hmm... I slowly am starting to ponder what happened to my coin... ...did a greedy postal worker keep it?!
  24. Got a coin ready in an envelope ... should be on it's way shortly ... ...looking forward for the Gold WM-Coin :-) TIA V-I-C
  25. anybody with a lending hand? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong: I loaded the ZIP-file and followed the instructions. I got to custom export a file for Memory Map. I now have the icons on Pocket Nav! But when I double-click them, they don't lead me to CacheMate, but open a browser...? I tried the custom-export for cachemate, but that doesn't seem to do anything (no file is being created in C:\GSAKExports\) aside of my CacheMate stubbornly seems to be refusing any other way of getting it's Waypoints aside of an Import thru a GPX/LOC-file on the device... (The custom-export would create a .CSV-file?!?) Even an export into a Cachemate-PDB-file from GSAK (just GSAKs standard export for it) would not load on my PocketPC (list stays empty, even I tell it to display "ALL") Also (and I thought I was reading about this here already?): how do I get it to display names within MM? thx V-I-cacher
