Pictures - Cool Cache Containers (CCC's)

5816 posts in this topic

Saw these pics posted in another thread. I love the idea of custom containers. The fav one I found was a log that was split and made into a container. Please post pics or discriptions if you do not have any pics of Cool Custom Cache Containers (ok CCCC's now)

I've got one that looks just like a tupperware container! It's so cool, cause it blends in with all the other tupperware containers out in the woods!

LOL Halden! I would be running from that... I didn't take a picture of the one I did for my micro. I might need to before I adopt it before moving. But I took a limb the was about 3-4" thick and about 18" in length. I drilled out a section underneath it that I put a flim canister into it and glued it there. It lies on the ground and you can't see the canister until you move it. Have had some that couldn't find it. I came up with that after finding a couple micros that had the round orange match containters fused to the end of a stick the same diameter.

Not the best pic, but it looks like the best one showing the container of this cache.

I thought for sure there would be lots of cache containers to post that are not the usual Tins, Ammo Cans, etc.

One of the cowpies made it on the Front Page of the Texas Living section in the Dallas Morning News

ThumbKin

This was Thumbkin #1. You unscrew the center (lighter wood) and inside find coordinates to stage 2.

Flounder has coordinates on the bottom for stage 2

UM.... A #2

#2 was my wifes' creation. Inside were coordinates to stage 2. Oh yeah, its' a chapstick container. Something you put on your lips. It was near a dog walking area as well. by accident.

Here's a few that I have. One of 'em is out in the field but I wan't say which. Locals, pretend you didn't read this.

See if you can guess what I do for a living without checking my profile.

This last one is my idea for a multi. A lag bolt into a post will hold one of these for ages!

I may, or may not, have a cache lodged in one of these...

I guessing you do. B)B)

I don't live near Akulakat but I have had the chance to find some of his caches and they are great. 9Key and HedgeHopper in the same area are in the same league.

Akulakat, I have one question: How did you get the cow to swallow the can to make that first one?

Akulakat:

how did you get the leaves and the other materials to adhere to your container? What sort of adhesive did you use?

While it is not a cache per se, check out Ajetpilot's log on the Puget Sound Geo Hot Potato from this morning. Wander Lost put it together.

Sorry for the red Xs. I just pulled the files down because I put those caches out in the field today. Kind of a fine line between sharing ideas and giving them away. I'll gladly email images to non-San Diegans.

If people can't find mine, I send a picture. Then some times, people still can't find them. With Flounder, I had a cacher on site when another showed up. The first guy had found it already. He let cacher 2 look for a bit, then asked if he wanted to see it.

He pointed to it, the 2nd cacher kneeled down looking right at the cache saying 'where'. According to them, he touched it twice still saying 'where?'.

This one ended up with a 4 rating because of the above. The FTF was tipped off by me as I mistakenly left a small label backing strip right by the cache. Otherwise who knows.

Akulakat's camo'ed altoids container was our first find actually =)

It's not as bad as you'd think, but we did need the hint, which told us it was round. After that, it kind of stuck out a bit. The harder part was that it's under a lot of tree cover, so we had a hell of a time figuring out where the coords were. Overall it was a lot of fun to find =)

Here's a recycled Starbuck's tea tin. It's a little longer than The Real Thing , but hopefully from twenty feet away it'll fool some folks. <_<

I'm really curious what the story was on this one. Was it really inside a library? One of the logs reads:

We rate this cache a 5 difficulty if you visit on a day Otis doesn't want to play, and a 1.5 on a day he does. We overthought this one last time, and my original hunch was correct. Found this in about 3 minutes on an Otis-friendly return visit.

(OtisPug was the cache owner.)

What the heck are they referring to? ;) I must know! :D

I liked the hide at Stoney Lonesome, GCG4P5. It was painted with that speckled stone paint, and had rocks glued to it. It was invisible unless you were right on it...

Below is a cache I placed as a memorial for our daughter. I cut a slab off the top of the stump to make the lid then I hollowed the log out with my chain saw. I then placed two dow pins in the lid and drilled out matching holes in the stumps base so the lid would stay put. It's big enough to fit a .50 cal ammo can in it. The stump weighs about sixty pounds. I carried it about a mile untill I found the most peaceful spot I could find.

I know PVC cache containers are not that unusual. But this one is made out of 8 in. PVC and is 65 in. tall. For an idea of the size of the container, I am 6'4" tall and weigh 225 lbs.

This cache uses a pretty unique container. Read the logs for some of the finders reactions. I'll email details to non local cachers who want to repeat this in their areas. After I got the idea off the forums a while back.
