CinemaBoxers
Hi folks, I've been asked by some people who purchased my Carousel Horse coins - a surprising number actually - if I would consider adding other animals and make it a series. So - Im kicking this around - for the VERY near future. Im thinking of doing a Lion for the next installment - would be available in May. Would you all like to see more Carousel Animals - there WILL already be a Christmas Horse this year, as per requested. Let me know, and if you'd all like to see a Carousel Lion, I will make it so! ~P Quote Link to comment
+ThePetersTrio
I'm always excited to see new ideas from CB! Bring on the Lion! Quote Link to comment
+Crowesfeat30
Oh, yeah! And a tiger and a zebra and a griaffe and a... LOL! CF30 Quote Link to comment
+Nochipra
How about a panda bear for something different? Quote Link to comment
+ThirstyMick
Nope. Absolutely hate the idea, Paula. Actually I think you should stop designing coins altogether. I mean seriously, your designs are way too pretty. I can't control my spending  (I'm kidding, it's just money.. I'd love to see what you come up with ) Quote Link to comment
+0R0B0RUS
Paula, I think this is a great idea! Along with the traditional animals, consider some others; who wouldn't want to ride on the back of a huge dog or cat? Or how about a gorilla? LOL You could go really wild! Quote Link to comment
+Crowesfeat30
How 'bout a horse of a different color? CF30 Quote Link to comment
+AtlantaGal
I'd actually like to see a whole carousel coin. Not much into the individual animals since the horse is the most recognized. Quote Link to comment

CinemaBoxers
triple post. sheesh and I only clicked once. My concern would be the detail on a whole carousel. Perhaps I might do a few animals, and begin work on a Carousel Coin to see how the detail works out. I like the idea, but again, I like TONS of detail, and those horses would have to be pretty dinky tiny. Quote Link to comment

I'm for more of the individual animals, rather than a carousel coin - maybe as a final to the series. As long as the lions, tiger and bears were the same size as the horses and each other...I'm all for it! Elephants are cool. Quote Link to comment
+Rockin Roddy
I've yet to find a cache near a carousel.... Quote Link to comment
avroair
Funny you should mention other animals, since the Antiques Roadshow had a segment on Carousel horses, and apparently antique animals other than horses such as dolpins, dragons, elepants, tigers and leopards are worth a lot more to collectors than horse designs. Some of them fetch between $60-$80K Quote Link to comment

Some of them fetch between $60-$80K Ive always collected Carousel art! My entire life I've been a collector, and actually - have an ENTIRE carousel themed room in our house. Ive done several series of watercolor prints - including a set of 'Famous Thoroughbreds as Carousel Horses' - those were very cool, and pretty popular. I hardly have any of those remaining anymore.... but have the originals here at home tho! I honestly wasn't sure how the Carousel Horse would be received by everyone, so the idea of the other animals is exciting for me - as my first choice would have been a Lion or Tiger. I just know I can work some magic on the lion, and have some ideas to make it pretty special. So - if the responses and emails stay encouraging, you should be seeing a Lion pretty soon. I will ABSOLUTELY add a Hippocampus as well - love those, and actually followed the restoration of one about 12 years ago. Until recently, our local Six Flags had an intact ORIGINAL Dentzel Carousel - its gone now, no idea where, but I dont think anyone but the Carousel Fanatics realize the loss. (Im sure it was sold to collectors, but man.... I loved having it local.) Thanks for the encouragement everyone - I'll make sure these are pretty special! +tadpole379
In Bear Mountain State Park (In NY) there is a carousel with horses as well as native animals (mountain lion, bear, skunk, fox, frog, etc) Here are some photos I found online of some of the animals: carousel Quote Link to comment
+Crowesfeat30
I've yet to find a cache near a carousel.... In St. Louis there are two carousels - the one in the St. Louis Zoo and the one in Faust Park. There are caches both in Faust Park as well as the Zoo (free) Not necissarily "near" the carousels but close. CF30 Quote Link to comment

The golden retriever is cute, too. Here's the carousel I rode as a child - it was in Rochester, NY. It was old and beautiful. Several years ago, some workmen replacing the roof on the building it was housed in, set the roof on fire. (Idjits) The carousel was lost. Edited April 16, 2008 by ATMouse Quote Link to comment

+tsunrisebey
As a fan of caroursels, Helena has one. I've often used my niece and nephew as excuse to go ride it. Our carousel has the typical horses but we have Grizzlies, Bobcats, Rainbow Trout, Antelope, Native American Horses, Otters (all critters native to MT) used for riding. I think it's a great idea. CinemaBoxers
Brookfield Zoo JUST installed a completely hand-carved wood carousel several years ago - it features zoo animals rather than horses. In fact, not ONE horse on it. Joel always rides the Coyote! Its his favorite. (Its a wolf really.. shhhhh!) Well.. I'll get to work then! Quote Link to comment

I thought twice about posting these images. I know how the forums can be with censorship. These are honest to Ethel carousel figures at the House On The Rock. They are out in the public for anyone of any race, age, size, shape or gender to see. The hour or so we spent watching the carousel bunches of people with and without kids walked by and enjoyed it with us. Not a single one threw their hands over their children's eyes and whisked them away from it. However, if the mods think that my images should be deleted I will do so. Quote Link to comment
