  1. Hi RenMin, Read the pinned topics as the top of the geocoin forum. From memory I don't think the promotion of geocoin stores is permitted, only the sale of specific geocoin releases from a given store. There is a thread, pinned at the top of the geocoin forum, to post in if you have issues with a geocoin vendor. Suggest you take a read through that and it will give you a good idea of which vendors to avoid. Cheers!
  2. In most cases it is even easier than that! On the Trackables page there is a Retrieve an activation code link which takes you to a page where you can enter you Tracking Number and in most circumstances it will give you the Activation Code for your geocoin.
  3. Shipping costs have gotten crazy! It has always been expensive for me to ship from New Zealand, and it keeps going up, but not to the same degree as else where. It costs me (postage alone) $NZ13.45 to post a single geocoin. (But then I can usually ship 3 geocoins for that same $NZ13.45) I can't afford to add anything onto that to recoup PayPal and eBay fees, let along the bubble mail (another $1), gas, etc. I charge $US11.25 for postage - that comes out to c. $NZ12.95 - YIKES! I must be loosing $2 to $3 on each and every item I ship!!! But none of you guys would entertain paying more than you pay now for shipping from NZ. And many of you proably don't entertain paying what I charge now.
  4. And if you are dropping items in to caches as a gift, leave a note with them clearing explaing that. Or if you are expecting people to trade for it like a swag item, again a note clearing explaining that. Where a lot of people get into difficulty is they grab something from a cache, and later find out they were meant to trade. Or they trade something and then later find out it was meant as a gift. So it pays to leave a note with the item so as to be clear from the onset what you intent is for it.
  5. To buy tracking numbers from Groundspeak you have to submit a coin/travel tag design for their approval first, and then you buy blocks of numbers from Groundspeak. There is a minimum number you have to buy, it might be 50 (but I could be wrong). That is why kunarion suggested the rather inexpensive official Geocoins or "tags" - people in the past have purchased these cheap items and then reused the tracking ID's from these for their own items. You could also try to pick up cheap geocoins from eBay for this purpose. The only drawback in your item will be listed as being an XXX type of geocoin, the that geocoins icon.
  6. <-- my GeoTag Hi nericksx The generic name is just signature items - there are a lot of different ones out there, everything from handmade items, to things that have been repurposed, to crushed pennies, and trackable tags. GeoTags was something that a lot of people got made some years ago, and I assume a few still are - if you search the forums for them you'll find some info. They had a generic backside with the tracking number on, and a customised side that you design. (See the image to the left - that is my GeoTag) I see there are all sorts of trackable travel tags out there these days - so again something you could design and have made. Just ask around any of the coin vendors. Otherwise, the work is your oyster for non-trackable signature items. The issue with trackable ones that you need to get made by a coin vendor is going to be cost, because every element to it costs money and everyone makes money on that element. The non-trackable ones will cost as much as you want to spend on them, but the biggest cost could end up being just your time Good luck.
  7. Yes, that would be me! I would definitely love to acquire one of these awesome geocoins!!!! It is very interesting that it is in the same, or very close to it, colours that I did the 11-11-11 Canterbury New Zealand geocoin in! Does anyone have any information on where the coins came from? Thanks.
  8. Half of those to reply publicly so far are from outside of North American so I would hope the chances of it being an International Math Trade would be good.
  9. I will probably take part, but at $10+ postage each I hopefully won't have to send too many... (NZ)
  10. We finally shift into our new house tomorrow after a move of 600km and a change of islands again, so have updated the address book with mine and rattusbaggus' new address. Going to be a busy few days!
  11. My understanding from what I have seen with other geocoins is (and I could be wrong), but I suspect you'll need to get Groundspeak approval, but after that you can use the same icon as previously and the same prefix, etc. So it would essentially just be a new edition of your existing coin series. But as I said, I could be wrong.
  12. They were sold through GeoSwag and I am pretty sure they've been sold out for a long time now. You might be able to pick on up off eBay as they do occasionally appear on there... maybe I'll list mine...
  13. bump - no one knows what versions of this coin exist?
  14. Hey, no problem. Most people don't even notice the trading thread is even there.
  15. Hi mattscully, Please check out the GEOCOIN TRADING, WANTS, OFFERS AND LISTS - ALL TRADES MADE HERE, PLEASE REPLY TO TRADERS, IT'S A NICE THING thread that is pinned at the top of the Geocoin Discussions forum. This thread was created to keep all the coin requests, trades, etc all in one spot rather than allowing them to spawn into millions of individual threads. This is where you should be posting your want requests please. (There are a lot of people who check the trading thread daily, but never look at the rest of the forum.
  16. Hi, Can anyone tell me what different versions, if any, of the Cros Ceilteach geocoin sold via GeoSwag were produced? Thanks.

  18. Still nothing? I may have one - will check later
  19. IMO, You must put a zero in the box Keeping. In Edition put the finish. How I've been treating Edition is that if there is no official edition name, then I enter the finish. If there is an official edition name (many vendors do this these days), then I enter the Edition Name and I put the finish in brackets so that it is clear) The other way Editions are/can be treated is that they're called Standard or Regular Edition, Limited Edition, Extra Limited Edition, Artist Edition, OR in the case of the Multi-Event and Multi Participate coins it could be Space Coast Edition, or Canterbury Edition, etc - in which case I use that. I am guilty of cross using these 2 ways of doing it.
  20. Hi Sue and welcome. The numbers on the coin are called the tracking ID. When you get a coin you also get, or are told how to get, an activation code - which is then used in combination with the tracking I'd to activate the coin. The activation code should never be given to anyone. The tracking I'd should only be used by those who have been in contact with the coin. It should never be published or listed anywhere. When you activate your coin it is given a TB reference number - this can be given out publicly as it will get people to your coins page, but will not allow them to log it. Only the tracking ID can be used for logging a coin. Bugs and coins are effectively the same thing except one is just a tag and the other is a coin, and their are other forms also, such as decals, but they're all trackable via the Tracking ID - they just take different physical forms. Everyone should put something with their travelling coins to avoid any confusion and to help people understand that it is a traveller and what its mission is. Many people don't do this, or the paper gets lost. I print off a mission card for mine, which I laminate and then usually attach to the coin (I drill my coins and attach the mission and a traveller tag to it)
  21. As you are leaving them it is up to you as to whether they are activated or not. It sounds like you want them to travel, so what you could do it activate them and leave a note that they will be adopted over the the finder. Otherwise you risk one person rushing in and picking up as many of the unactivated coins as they can find. At least if they are activated that would hopefully dissuade that from happening.
  22. Oh, and when sending a geocoin out travelling it is highly useful to send out a copy of it's mission with it. This ensures people know that it is a traveller, not a keeper.
  23. Welcome to the forums and to geocaching!! You should read the topics pinned to the top of this forum (Geocoin Discussions) and also the Knowledgebooks, which I think are linked somewhere in the pinned topics. Your geocoin will have a Tracking number engraved on it. To activate you need the activation code. If this was not supplied with the coin, then usually instructions to retrieve it are. If they weren't, you might be able to retrieve it from the Lost Activation Code page on geocaching.com Once you have both the Tracking ID and the Activation Code, you can then activate you geocoin here --> Trackables - there is an "Activate Trackable" box where you enter the Tracking ID for your geocoin. You will then be prompted along several steps for more information. Note that at one point you'll need to set the coin to be Collectible or Not... if you want it to travel, you set it to Not Collectible. Also on the Trackables page there are links in the Geocoins box to some documents that will be VERY useful to you. Good luck
  24. drneal - you are missing a few zero's from that number.... wouldn't 20,000 be closer than 20? (Actually - just how many do you have?, and is it true the corner of your house is sinking under the weight?) about 3500, 2582 activated trackables with about another 50 that need to be activated Wow - that's a lot of activated coins! How on earth do you keep track of them all!? LOL And thanks for sharing - with the numbers you post photo's of in the Mailbox thread I thought you might have significantly more, but I guess you also do quite a bit of trading. Do you know how many coins trades you've done over your geocoining career? more than 20 ! ROTFLMAO... Thanks drneal - I needed that laugh to brighten my day!
