sorry to be the one to whine, but... umm, family friendly forum?

 

TTUMS here ~

 

Now before anyone gets their shorts in a wad..... I thought twice about posting these images. I know how the forums can be with censorship.

 

These are honest to Ethel carousel figures at the House On The Rock. They are out in the public for anyone of any race, age, size, shape or gender to see. The hour or so we spent watching the carousel bunches of people with and without kids walked by and enjoyed it with us. Not a single one threw their hands over their children's eyes and whisked them away from it.

 

However, if the mods think that my images should be deleted I will do so.

 

I felt there was nothing wrong with them, they are from a bygone era and obviously not meant to be pornographic.

These pictures are AWESOME ! But would be an entirely different genre such as along the line of Mermaids and/ or renaissance :D I would Lve to go see them ! ! !

They will be Merry Go Round animals. Carousels have only horses no them and Merry Go Rounds have other animals.... :sad:

 

Ah! Not so! Thats a common myth...

 

 

"Carousel" vs. "Merry-Go-Round"... The two words can be used interchangeably, although "carousel" has come into favor as people have come to appreciate their beauty--maybe because it sounds fancier.

 

Very early carousels were created in both England and France, where they were called different things. The word "carousel" comes from the French, while merry-go-round seems to come from the English term "roundabout."

merry-go-round vs. carousel. The term used has more to do with region

that type of machine or type of animals or figures that ride on it.

 

It is part of the myth and magic of the carousel industry. Just as

coke, pop, soda and even "soft" drink all mean the same depending on

what part of the country you are in when the question is asked, so

in the term merry-go-round and carousel. It is more marketing than

anything. In the South, they were even referred to as "carry-us-alls"

by one manufacturer.

 

And if you look it up in the dictionary, you have to be sure the

publishing date on the dictionary corresponds to the period of use.

Words go in and out of popularity and are either included or excluded

from the current dictionary."

For the record, Groundspeak is OK with these as well.

 

Now, if they were pictures of spaghetti with no sauce....that would be a whole different story. :D

I was mostly concerned with what my coworkers would think. or my IT department... or my boss. :sad:

 

I guess that just means I shouldn't have been in here while im at work :o

well, I shouldn't be anyway.. I should be re-reading that document I've been staring at for a month and a half :D

In Australia, a Merry-go-round is a flat round object that sits in childrens parks and causes much motion sickness :P It is propelled by the child.

 

A Carousel is mechanical/electrical and has animals that go up and down on poles, music, and a roof, and generally costs money to ride on it.

 

A roundabout, is a feature on roads where the traffic all goes in one direction, replacing traffic lights.

 

Bring on the lion!

In my neck of the woods as well...though it's more commonly called a traffic circle than a roundabout.

What if.... You made individual coins but with the pole going up through them. Then outside the coin people could actually make their own Carousels to display them. Maybe even make it spin, I could work that out with a tiny motor and some batteries. Let me know...

 

Kinda like a spoon collection. But with mystical creatures...Oh yeah.

Which ALSO causes much motion sickness - at least on my part, anyhoo... :P Must...not...go....round....and...round...... urp...............

:D I usually love exposed wood, but for a change I am going to dress my carousel up - mirrors, beads, ribbons, glitter - the bling-ier the better!!

 

I'll post photos when I'm done - I hope I dont mess it up! And I need two more horses to fill it up.

Can I suggest that the pole and base are the same size on each coin so it looks like a real set not just a bunch of coins with the same theme.

 

Oh I agree! I'd want them the same size, so they fit on the stand!

Have you ever known the CinemaBoxers to make a mistake with a coin?

The worlds biggest carousel is at "The House on the Rock" in Wisconsin. And not a single horse is on it...

 

Yep... I've seen this many times in person - its certainly a sight to behold... over 300 animals. Wow.

 

The most impressive however are the VERY few remaining antique wood hand carved carousels still functioning.

 

There is a NEW functioning wood carousel at the Brookfield Zoo - no horses, ALL zoo animals. =)

Well, it's been a while - just have to ask as the State Fair is in town and I just took a ride on the carousel............and it wasn't a horse! Did any more of these ever come to life? Will they?

 

Any word on this CinemaBoxers or GeocoinGuy? Inquiring minds want to know - or at least this mind................

I got an email last Feb sometime from Jim (GeocoinGuy) with mint artwork for the lion carousel. It stated that they were going to be made in the future.

 

I inquired with him in May and he stated he was trying to get the capital together to have them made. It's been awhile that these have been talked about. I'm sure they will get made one day.... <_< until then... ~still patiently waiting~

I'm happy to inform you all that the Carousel Lions are IN PRODUCTION right now... I will have a formal announcement via GeocoinDesign.com's Newsletter going out when I receive the tracking number on a delivery date -

I ran into a snag, but should have the Carousel Lions in hand by the end of the month (knock on wood). There were some details to the art that I posted in February that were not right, but this coin promises to be AWESOME!!

 

The first production run will consist of 350 coins in the following platings/enamels:

 

135 Polished Gold (Brown Lion/Purple trappings)

135 Black Nickel (White Lion/Blue trappings)

60 LE Satin Gold (Brown Lion/Green trappings)

20 XLE Satin Silver with Glitter (Black Lion w/Purple trappings)

 

The regular edition coins will be priced at $12.00 USD

 

LE Satin Gold will be priced at $15.00 USD

 

ONLY 10 XLEs will be made available to the public, and will only be bundled in SETS.
