Some of these are only Favorited because of the icon (APE), others on the list are some of the most visited in the world (disney)

I'd love to see this list sorted by percentages.

#10 - 8%

#59 - 59%

#100- 16%

What one is more 'Favorite'?

Edit: I've found nine, and five were in one day!

10, 19, 31, 36, 38, 54, 65, 95, 100(Dune)

Awesome! How did you construct that list?

One thing that it shows very clearly, though... the most favorited caches are most likely also the most visited caches.

  1. Create a Pocket Query of caches by click-selecting the areas you wish to search. (I chose the 50 states plus DC.)
  2. Click on 'Preview the search"
  3. Sort the list by 'Favorite points'
  4. At the bottom of the page select "Check All"
  5. Click "Download Waypoints".
  6. Repeat for as many as you wish to download. (I did the first five pages. Each page has 20 waypoints.
  7. Import the saved .loc files into a blank GSAK database.
  8. Exported the database to a "CSV or Txt" file.
  9. Imported into Excel.
  10. Copied the relevant columns in Excel to Notepad (this is for formatting reasons).
  11. Copied the contents in Notepad to the forum post.

how about Tristate Marker GC2018. Its tied at 100.

I grabbed the first five pages and did not look at the sixth page. There are three more caches tied at 100. I'll add them.

Edited to add: List, stats, and KMZ have now been edited to include three more caches that were tied for 100.

We've found 3

The Necropolis is maybe my favorite of them all

This shows that easy PnGs won't get all the points despite some of the early fears I read. Many of these are either old or complicated

EDIT: Make that 5

Found five, but three of them are Walt Disney World in Florida Virtuals. And I haven't found two of the virtuals there, and they're on the list too!! I saved them, because last time I was there (2004) there were actually a ton of physical caches there too. But that ended badly, and physical caches are no longer allowed on Disney property.

Post #15 is a little difficult for me. I have an Earthcache with 49 Favorite points, and #100 the list is at 60 favorite points. Just wondering where I place, if you went to more pages. :D

If I was thinking about geocaching when I went to Hawaii Volcanoes NP, I could have gotten the one on this list that was there. I walked right by the location. But since I wasn't thinking about the logging requirements when I was there, no go for me.

Tombstone is on my watchlist, though. There are a couple caches in the Dallas area I've got my eye on, and I'm going to make a daytrip up there to snag them one of these days.

As of a few minutes ago, you were in a tie with a few other caches at #155.

You're the #11 Earthcache in the US.smile.gif

So now we see the dark side of favorites.

Why on Earth are people insistent on making everything a competition?

Oh, c'mon, it's fun. It's not like any of them are bad caches or anything. Sort of proves what I had already observed though, most of them are virtuals or Earthcaches. And those that aren't are often "historic" caches. Such as Mingo, which is basically a park-n-grab.

Other than a few I've seen where people favorite caches just because they were FTF, and a few "evil micros" that I've observed having several favorite points (which isn't my cup of tea), I think the system works pretty durn good.

Interesting list. It looks like I've found 26 of them, DNF'd 4 of them, and almost did 2 more but ran out of time.

I was going to post about favorites when I came back from my trip down south in February. It was one of our best caching trips in many years, because of the favorites system helping us to find great caches. B)

It's also interesting that many of them are PNW caches.

definitely helped us plan our Seattle trip

It would be great if these could be shown on a map

And how many points each has.

For now, .loc and .gpx files do not include the favorite information. Perhaps as soon as later this month, Groundspeak will be including the favorite information in GPX files which will make creating "Favorite" lists quite easy.

Favorites don't have to be used for competitive purposes, they can be used for when you're visiting a new area and want to see a great cache without going crazy with the prep beforehand. Probably one of the coolest things this site has added.

I also noticed that California and Washington State had the highest number of favorited caches in that list. Does that mean the CA and WA have better caches than other states? No, it doesn't. In order for a cache to get a favorite point, it has to be found. I suspect that if the stats were available we'd find that CA and WA have more active geocachers than other states, and because of the cache density in those states is very high, geocachers have accumulated more favorite points and have more to award. There might be a lot of really great caches in Wisconsin, Maine, or Utah but because there fewer geocacher finding them, the total number of favorites is going to be lower than caches located in states with a larger population of geocachers.

Geez, you couldn't have made that list using links so we can easily see if we've found them or not?

Seriously, big thanks for putting it together, it is an interesting list, but does not contain many surprises. As others have posted, many caches get points for being old, or having a harder to get icon, or simply because they get found a LOT in a tourist destination.

Since I do travel a bit, and always cache when I travel, I have been to 32 of these caches already.

I'm not likely to ever get the ones in the Magic Kingdom, but there are a few others on this list that are already on the to do list, others will get added. I do look at the fave score when planning road trip target caches, but it is only one criteria I use.
