+Beowulf83 Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Right now XM Cafe, channel 45 on XM, is in the midst of a set it has entitled "Global Positioning Songs". I'm jotting down the song titles as they appear - the first being Disappear Fear's "For Hollywood". Don't know how relative they will be to geocaching, but it should still be interesting. I'm betting it's going to be songs about places. Quote

+airmetro Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Lately, it's been a lot of Todd Snider...particularly the song "The Ballad of the Kingsmen". If you haven't heard it, you should. It cracks me up every time. Also, I've added Blue Mountain's "Generic America" to heavy rotation on my MP3 player (sorry, no iPod for me). Quote
+Teamhawaii1981 & blueicyrose Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Great Thread! I normally listen to softer Indie music (Elliot Smith; Iron and Wine; Shins), but pre-caching music I tend to listen to are some heavy rock to get me in the mood and get me pumped up; something I can picture caching to. It's actually funny, as I don't really like a this genre, but it really gets me ready to bust out of the car doors to run into the woods. One of my caching CD's: 1: ACDC - For Those About To Rock 2: Guano Apes - Open Your Eyes 3: Hendrix - Voodoo Chile 4: Bush - Machine Head 5: Nonpoint - Headstrong 6: System of a Down - Chop Suey 7: Disturbed - Down with the Sickness 8: Sabbath - Paranoid 9: Skynard - Simple Man 10: Godsmack - I Stand Alone 11: Audioslave - Like A Stone 12: ACDC - Hells Bells Quote

Now I've got to go check out that Canadian alt blue grass band someone mentioned... Quote

+Melrose Plant Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 I do not usually listen to anything but the drone of the engine. A fact few people know about me: I am a serious, though amateur, classical musician. I am also unusual these days because I am both a string player and a wind player. I am also on occasion a singer. On a long car trip, I am usually doing vocal exercises or practicing something I'm working on. No, not instrumental. That's dangerous! On a particularly long drive, I actually utilized the CD player. Since I had just read through all six of Bach's Brandenburg concertos with a chamber group a few days previous, I decided I would listen to all six on CD. I figured that would keep me awake. It worked, but in the middle of the slow movement in No. 6 (about halfway through, since I played them 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3) a deer jumped out into the road. This was about 1:30 a.m. Somehow, I used the force and swerved around it, missing it by mere inches. Boy was I wide awake after that. Just so you guys don't think I'm a total blueblood, I did try to make a living at one point playing in a country band for about three years. It didn't work out, but we mostly had a lot of fun. Quote

Black Mage Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 "I'm not Coming In", by Stuart Hill This is what I usually consider to be my "summer theme." I used to know where you could download the song, but the site doesn't seem to have it anymore, so here's the lyrics... Sun's up, I hit the floor Shoes tied, I'm out the door Is this a clean shirt? I think it was one yesterday Free day, I'm on the phone No plans, I got the cell on I call my boys up Spend a little time outside today Never liked for you to hear where I gotta be Never liked being told who I gotta see I like no commitment growing up around me I'm not coming in anymore Everything I want and need is just outside this door I'm not coming in anymore I've got too many friends on the outside That don't include you Go ahead and think all you might All my friends and I ain't on the inside All kinds of facts and probabilities You say we're meant for all the seasons You scream with endless possiblities Spend a lot of time trying to convince me My friends are two strikes against me Well I swing for the fences So that must make strike three That's fine by me I'm not coming in anymore Everything I want and need is just outside this door I'm not coming in anymore I've got too many friends on the outside That don't include you Nothing ever seems right Like it does when I start Playing it in right speed, kick in at the right spot I like things familiar And I don't belong here Don't belong here I'm not coming in anymore Everything I want and need is just outside this door I'm not coming in anymore I've got too many friends on the outside The plan's on the outside It don't include you Not coming in Not coming in Not getting back no more No more I think it applies well to the cacher. We have a son that always seem to trust the disappointing forces in his life. Add this to the above list: I'll never find the next one and even if I did Sarah(his sister) has found it before me. Besides from that we never listen to anything but ourselves when we go for any kind of car ride. If I should be alone in the car one favorite is Tom Waits, Underground in which he clearly states he's into geocaching. I like having the music, but miss out on all the natural sounds. But I have to contend with the earbud cable flopping about and make sure it doesn't get tangled in anything. The music could keep me from hearing approaching muggles or animals too.
