Lake caches are great! Which lake? I was at Lake Lewisville Saturday, no caches but lots of innertube fun!

We did great in east Texas! 4 out of 6 found and even hid one! My buddy Fever is going to maintain it. Penick Park and find. The caches are large in ET, but there are fewer. The one that we went for was at Barnwell Mt. in Gilmer- We did not find. We ran into some other Geocachers on the trail of antother cache. hookem&gigem, songbird1979 and the others, thanks for the friendly advice!

I am heading to East Texas this weekend (Gilmer, TX.) to go wheel'in. I plan on scouting out some caches while I am there. I will post my success (or failure) when I get back !

There are some great places to cache here. I have not been too successful but I have had a lot of fun trying.

Is there a standard Map Datum that everyone is using or different lat/lon setting? My Meridian is way off like .20 miles

Long sleeve shirts, gloves and long pants always pertected me as a wildland firefighter from the PO/PI. I took a shower and washed the clothes immediately following my exposure to it and never had a problem. This weekend my wife and I did some searching in shorts and a T-shirt and I have been scratching since. I don't remember being in contact with any but it was obviously around.

My wife and I do a lot of offroading and a GPS was useful in a lot of situations. I was on the net one day looking for a replacement unit because my 310 had failed and came across the Geocashing website. I read a few of the descriptions and couldn't get to best Buy quick enough to get a new unit. I also took my wife on our first few searches and she loves it too. I can't think of anything more entertaining the a scavenger hunt! We have only been successful in finding one cache so far, but we expect it to become easier as we get use to the types of hiding spots that people choose.

I will keep this advice in mind when placing my first cache. And I will always try to maintain a good altitude.

Thanks, That is a good explanation. Blows my theory about why I am so bad at this, but that's OK.

Can anyone tell me if the altitude matters when entering coordinates for a cache? It seems like it would. Should the altitude be edited when you get close to the cache to get a more accurate location? The way my instrument is set up, the default altitude will be the current altitude of my location, and altitude is not mentioned in most cache descriptions.
