  1. Does anyone have this setup? I want to know if a query can be uploaded to the iPad and reviewed when wireless or G3 connections are NOT active. I only want to use the app and device as a paperless database to retrieve previous logs, descriptions, and hints. Basically can I use the device where I no reception and read a cache description? Thanks
  2. Well, what application do you plan to use on your iPad to view the GPX data? If you are using the Groundspeak Geocaching app, you don't need to move the GPX files to your iPad, you open the app, and while connected to a wifi network, you can load the files into the app. If you are using a different app like Geocaching with Geosphere, there are several ways to get the GPX data to the app, including email, file shares like drop box & box.net, as well as locally through your sync process. To give any more detail on "how to..." we need more info like "what app?"... I would be using the Geocaching app and uploading a query of say 500 caches. Let me also say the iPad would not be connected via a G3 connection. I would want to load the file and be able to refer to the content when I was out of range of a free wireless connection. Thanks for your help.
  3. Could I use an app like Dropbox to move the gpx file to the iPad. Will the Geocaching app be able to load it?
  4. I am looking to add the Geocaching iPad app but have some questions on how the gpx files can be moved to the ipad. FYI, I wont be using the iPad to actually find caches. I have a 60cx that works just fine. The iPad will be used to look up listing, hints, etc. In order to transfer a gpx file to the ipad I need to have a working emial account set up. That I understand. How does the app see the gpx file? Can I use a Yahoo account or web browser emial account? Could someone give me the rundown on how it works? Thanks, HolyCowboys
  5. I typically use a ps to load my gpx files to my garmin. can I copy gpx files to a thumb drive from my pc then load them onto a mac and move them to my gps? If so what programs do you use on the mac platform that will pass a gpx file to a gps? Thanks, HolyCowboys
  6. PA State Representative Matt Gabler. I encourage you to e-mail him regarding this policy. mgabler@pahousegop.com Thanks again, HolyCowboys
  7. Yes, that's what it looks like will happen. Geocachers are going to be charges a $25 fee to place a geocache in a state park or on state forest ground. I have emailed my state representative about my displeasure. I suggest you all do the same. In addition you can contact DCNR and let then know what you think as well. Here is a link to email DCNR. ra-askdcnr@state.pa.us I have talked with several active geocachers from central PA. None of them will be placing caches in state forests while this $25 fee is in place. In addition none of them will be renewing existing geocaches. Please let DCNR and your state reps know how you feel. Thanks, HolyCowboys
  8. That's one of his easier hides. Terrain, well let's just say we went up and down several times. I just got lucky and made a sweep with my hand UNDER and came up with the find. Leaf cover this time of the year make it very hard. HINT!! Hey no dropping hints!
  9. If you have not hit the mark yet try this one. Thousand Steps Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...52-d679bed107f9 Prepare for a calf burner.
  10. I have always wondered who my cache watchers are. Any chance that might be in a possible upgrade? HC
  11. I liked Boalsburg Parks - Now closed http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...cc-d6a3b6028ef5 The hides were very unique and challenging.. I also like Four Corners http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...69-acfaf9cbd062 A nice twist to the final...making one think in a different direction HC
  12. Yep that the answer I was looking for....and silly me I need to pick up my container too. I just thought it odd that the sys would allow that for an archived cache. thanks, HC
  13. Found? Someone just found my archived cache. Why did the system allow this? I know the user probably had the data sheet printed out with the waypoint, but when a cache is closed should it not be functional too? Does this mean I can go log those reversal caches that are now closed? Not that I want to...... HC
  14. Have faith. I felt I had lost one of my TB's about a year and a half ago. It had only made it about 40 miles from my caching area. Then poof it was held in lockup for 18 months. I had given up hope long ago then last week I saw a posting that it had finally been placed in a cache out West. Actually the goal of the TB. I know this is not a common thing to happen. But who know with this game. You are doing the correct thing by sending out polite notes. Good luck, HC
  15. A very cool coin. We will have to order a gold coin right away since we just completed the Pennsylvania DeLorme cache this month.
  16. I would like to stop wasting paper asap but I hve no idea as to what type of PDA I should be looking at. What extras are needed? What are the pros and cons of the various types? And what can I get for my investment? I guess I need one that can copy a web pages and have the ability to save files and notes. Anything else? Thanks, HolyCowboys
  17. Like the micro bug....the name of this one says it all. Papa Fol-Duh-Bug
  18. Just a question about creating a banner.... Should I stick with the name "Centre County Cachers"? I know some of the cachers who have responded to this thread are not from Centre County. How about Center Region Cachers? Central PA Cachers? Any thoughts?
  19. Are you any good with graphics? It'd be nice to have a banner or two to choose from that we could all put on our cache pages, to promote the site. I should have done that a long time ago, and then more people in the area would probaly realize there already was a site for central PA. I'm busy the next couple days, but should be able to get the domain and hosting by the weekend and hopefully have a basic forum up. Then, if negeocaching ever comes back online, I'll just stick a "we moved" message there, with a link to the new page. Well since it looks like it's going to rain this weekend I think I could pull off a few banner samples...Stay tuned
  20. I’ve decide to run a test forum on my web space to possibly aid in the possible development to a site for Central Pa geocachers. Stop by and drop a line to let me know what you think. http://rockkids.com/geocaching/index.php If a Centre County site does get enough interest I would be happy to help design and contribute to building the site. I don't know PHP so I'm glad Mercn8r was able to. I only know HTML and CSS.
  21. Added a quick post....looks good
  22. I wonder if the Get Outdoors folks can help you speed it up a tad?(It's oddly inconsistent across the state - the speed of getting DCNR Permission.) I did speak with the Rothrock rep this week. He did let me know that he was finially getting to his pile of caches he needed to look at. I do know that some of them date back to April when they were first submitted. So lets see how things progress over the next month.
  23. Quote by Johmer79 "I just contacted the people at Whipple Dam about holding an event. Unfortunately, the earliest I would be able to set something up (I have weddings to attend, and wedding preparations of my own in the meantime) would be Sunday October 15th, the day after PSU's home game against Michigan. Hopefully I will hear back from them soon. I know it's going to start getting chilly by then, but it'll still be a good time to get together. Let me know what you think." I'm in as long as you use the name I mentioned in our past conversations. Please don't squeeze the cacher - Event cache at Whipple Dam
  24. I understand where Johmer79 is coming from when he talks about numbers. When I first started Geocaching almost a year ago I did not know what feverish all consuming hobby I had gotten myself into. After a few finds I found myself reverting to the sleepless nights I had back in college. This time I was not worrying about that final I had the next day. Instead my brain was taking me to local hiking areas I had enjoyed while growing up in the area. Man, an ammo can placed way up in Shingletown Gap would be really cool. Hopefully, I thought other people would think this is a really cool spot too. So I placed my first cache…then a second. I think I was right. I admit I do get carried away with thinking about placing caches. After a few cool hides out in Rothrock I had to place some in town. Not the hardest or very creative hides but hides none the less. I just wanted (at the time) to make hides for everyone of all levels to enjoy. Now I’m getting set in my ways and my thought pattern has changed. Quality over quantity, much like the beer I drink now. HA! I even have toyed with the idea as to removing one or two of my easier cache and grabs. But I’m told one has a purpose and the other one is kind of neat in its concept. So today they will stay…tomorrow who knows. I constantly try to make the next cache better, more creative or harder than the last one I placed. Placing caches in Rothrock is still a priority of mine even though the review process has slowed to a snails pace. But I will be patient. Those are the places I want to go to and those are the places I will put them. They will take you to great places. The ones in town will simply bend your mind. Sorry if you find that painful. The evil perma grin won’t go away anytime soon. Hey, I can't find an evil grin smiley. For your information I really enjoy caches that take you to great wooded places, provide you with a bit of history, causes you to lay awake at night because you ran out of daylight or you couldn’t find the darned thing the first time. That’s how I will make them, I hope you do the same.
  25. I believe that Bill Daly also goes by Olf D'Coors in the caching world. HolyCowboys
