4leafclover Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Placed a new cache, and never got the notification email that the cache had been found. I received plenty of other emails from gc.com...just not that one.
FawverFamily Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Placed a new cache, and never got the notification email that the cache had been found. I received plenty of other emails from gc.com...just not that one. I too have had this problem for a couple weeks now. I keep a list of how many people find my cache so I know when to go and change the log. I went the other day and according to the emails I got the log should have had 5 spaces left. In actuality the log was full and people had been signing on the back side. I went and looked on the cache page and sure enough, 9 people had logged "finds" but I never got an email notification on any of them. What's up with the email notification on cache finds????
PAWSitraction Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Having that problem with my Trackables. I get cache owner and cache watchlist notifications just fine, and I seem to be getting watchlist trackable emails OK, but my OWN Travelbugs and coins don't send me emails anymore.
StarBrand Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Must be some hiccup as there are at least 2 other threads today with similar comments. Or could be a throttling issue with some big provider again......
PAWSitraction Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I use Gmail. Have they started throttling emails?
larryc43230 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Add me to the list of people who suddenly aren't getting some e-mails from the site. A few minutes ago, I received the "Groundspeak Weekly Notification" e-mail. It listed two new caches that had been published, one yesterday and one today, that I was never notified about (I've been signed up for "instant notifications" for months). My e-mail account is with Insight Communications, in case that makes any difference. I've checked the spam folder in my e-mail client (I use Outlook), and there's nothing from geocaching.com or Groundspeak.com there. Since other folks are reporting problems cropping up at the same time, using other ISPs, I'm becoming convinced that something's up at geocaching. com in this case. --Larry
4leafclover Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 once again...same cache was found, but I never got the notification.
horsegeeks Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Same here, lots of new caches and no email in GMail
SgtSue Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 You can add me to the list. Two old caches, no owner emails.
PAWSitraction Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 OK, new question. Is everyone that's having a problem using GMAIL? Maybe it's an issue with them. If so, anyone have any ideas what we, as users, can do about it? Obviously emails from geocaching.com are on my whitelist, since i'm getting SOME, but not all, of the notifications.

In my case, at least, it's not gmail. As I mentioned, my e-mail comes via Insight. I have a gmail account, but I don't use it for geocaching stuff. --Larry
sillygirl & jrr Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) Add us to the list of those not getting notifications of watchlist, or bookmark, no one has found any of our caches today, but guess those are affected too. We use a gmail account for gc.com e-mail. s&j Edited to say someone did move one of our TBs and we didn't get that notice. Edited January 26, 2007 by sillygirl & jrr
SgtSue Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 My email is msn not gmail. Got emails from other cachers but no notification emails as to watched or owned caches.
MaxB on the River Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Email watchlist notification stopped at 12:42 pm today and we have Comcast, haven't received anything except 1 contact from cacher through GC. Sure hope the problem gets fixed.
jasond Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Ditto for 5 "found it" logs (and 1 DNF) on my caches yesterday and today and no email. Ditto for gmail.
jcar Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) After reading this thread I went and checked, my last email from geocaching was at 7:00am this morning Pacific time, three caches of mine were found today, and one TB/coin was moved, and a cache was published within my notification area, no emails on those, but I did get the weekly email notification of new caches this afternoon. Email is hotmail. Edit to clarify. Edited January 26, 2007 by jcar
Ichabod Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Add me to the list. I received a couple of published notices early this morning, but nothing since: no watchlist notifications, no owner notifications, etc.
spazz191 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 OK, new question. Is everyone that's having a problem using GMAIL? Maybe it's an issue with them. If so, anyone have any ideas what we, as users, can do about it? Obviously emails from geocaching.com are on my whitelist, since i'm getting SOME, but not all, of the notifications. I do not use GMAIL. I have my own domain for my own site. I use email addresses that I setup through that. As of this post I still have not received any GC.com emails. I sent test emails from an external account and all went through fine and even called my host, they said that the email server is fine no hiccups or the like.
Pepper Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I use gmail and have been for a while yesterday was the first time I didn't receive notification of a find. a gc.com issue? Is it possible gmail will fix what ever the problem is or should I change to a different email address? thanks so much Pepper

My last notification email was between 11 AM - 12 PM yesterday and have not received anything since. A few people have been experiencing similar issues and are not using gmail.

My last notification email was between 11 AM - 12 PM yesterday and have not received anything since. A few people have been experiencing similar issues and are not using gmail. It seems likely that this is a Geocaching.com problem and not related to any of our providers. I'm using Roadrunner in Southern California. I have not received a notification, owner, or watchlist message in over 24 hours. Don Edited January 26, 2007 by Don_J
4leafclover Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 for me, I notice that it goes back as far as the 20th of January...possibly as far as the 17th.
Super_Nate Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Not sure if it is a gmail thing or not....I have noticed this last week I have got a substantial fewer amount of emails from GC than I usually do. I am a stats person so I have over 75 caches on my watchlist for a variety of reasons....so emails from GC are constant. Chances are some of them have been missed. I posted a note to one of my caches and the email went through just fine. Not sure what is going on.....I use gmail as well.
Stunod Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) I missed one owner-email yesterday. But have have a few in my inbox from the last week, so it's not completely dead. edit: using gmail Edited January 26, 2007 by Stunod
CENT5 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Same trouble here with AOL. Last notifications were a couple days ago and they seemed to slow then stop. They have had throttling issues in the past so I wasn't too concerned but it looks like it's more widespread this time.
tomturtle Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I use a yahoo account for my geocaching mail and noticed that it got unusually quiet yesterday aftenoon. I started checking today and noticed that a couple of my caches had been found since then and no notification. Probably I am missing other notifications as well such as things on my watchlist or new caches being published, caches being disabled/enabled/archived, etc. Hope this gets fixed soon!
CO Admin Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 This seems to be part of the problem. Yes I know its not all the problems but if you use Yahoo this is one of the reasons you are having problems. Groundspeak is aware of the issues and working on them.
The Blind Acorn Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I don't use Yahoo for caching related mail. Cox Communication is my internet provider etc. I didn't get any emails related to my recently posted CITO event... Didn't even know people had logged/written notes until I went to the cache page....
Super_Nate Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I just confirmed that I am not receiving GC emails on my gmail. I was worried that one of my geocoins had been in the hands of a user for to long, and when I checked up on it the coin had moved through 3 caches and 2 users and 1,000 miles as of yesterday and I never got any emails.
ParentsofSAM Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I wonder if Gmail has started throttling. I sure hope not. I too have not gotten any emails except for the Weekly Notice, using Gmail.
4leafclover Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 I don't think gmail is the problem at all. What you have is a high percentage of people who *happen* to use it because of its storage capabilities. Apparently, it is a gc.com issue, and is being looked into....
The Jester Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Add one more name to the list. I haven't seen owner notification or new cache notify emails since about 9am (PST) on the 25th. My ISP is Comcast.
cheech gang Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Same problem. I don't use gmail, nor Yahoo.
MustangJoni Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Add me! I had someone log 3 of my coin, and got no notification. I'm on MSN
Stunod Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) Add one more name to the list. I haven't seen owner notification or new cache notify emails since about 9am (PST) on the 25th. My ISP is Comcast. Yup, I'm seeing about the same cutoff time for all cache log emails (owner, watchlist and insti-noty)...although the Weekly Notification made it fine later in the day. +spazz191 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Just an update... I just received 1 notification email 2 minutes ago. Hopefully the issue is almost resolved.
Celticwulf Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I wonder if it's something to do with a "blacklist" site...for it to be affecting all of these different ISP's, it's either something at Groundspeak, or something with an intermediate party that multiple services use. The reason I'm questioning is because the messages everyone seems to be missing all come from "noreply@geocaching.com" while both PQs and weekly notifications come from different emails. Just a thought, hopefully it gets fixed soon Celticwulf
The Cheeseheads Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I don't use Gmail or Yahoo. I'm using my own hosted email where I would be notified of every incoming message, even the ones marked by the server as spam. I got the weekly email, and I continue to get watchlist emails, but I have stopped getting any owner emails for both caches and trackables.
The Wandering Stars Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Add us to the list of people with this issue. We are using GMail, haven't received an email from GC.com since yesterday morning January 25th around 7:30 AM MST.
GPSlug Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 They seem to be starting to trickle in. I've just received a notify and a watchlist mail that were dated yesterday, but have a "sent" time of 45 minutes before the receive time. (ISP=Shaw cable)
Super_Nate Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I wonder if all the emails that we have all missed in the last 24 hours is going to flood our inboxes when whatever is causeing them to dam up finally breaks. I got an email from a user who was trying to contact me through the GC site and it worked just fine....still haven't seen any watchlist/owner emails.
tomfuller & Quill Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I hid a cache yesterday. It was published at 2:32PM. I got the email from Groundspeak about 2 minutes ago. 1 Hour 15 minutes late. I knew it was published over an hour ago only because I checked. "Rock On"-The way to Miller Time GC10JFE
The Wandering Stars Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Looks like emails are starting to trickle in. I just got 2 of the 7 that I was supposed to get yesterday.
cheech gang Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Can anybody explain how Yahoo "throttling" gc.com email affects the rest of us that don' have any connection to Yahoo or Gmail
Stunod Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Mine are catching up now. I guess someone poured a little Drain-O into the server and opened the pipes back up.
PAWSitraction Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Yup, same here. I just got a flood of notices from my trackables.
welch Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Can anybody explain how Yahoo "throttling" gc.com email affects the rest of us that don' have any connection to Yahoo or Gmail Announcements... I'm guessing all the emails trying to go to yahoo address were plugging up the pipe and keeping everything from getting out??
