+Team Balders
Before "Cut Down Cache (GCHBD1 )" disappears, Team Balders would really like to find it. As it now requires "Specialised Equipment" can anybody help us achieve our wish? We are quickly approaching 600 caches and it would be great if this could be number 600. Can any one help? +ZoomLens
I think that Balders is looking for even more specialised equipment than that. I assume that the path for pedestrians is blocked on both sides at each end - but that you wouldn't have to go the whole way to the cache and back on water.... I'll join you in this appeal - WE NEED A DINGHY!!!! That said, we could always club together to buy one - it doesn't need to be anything special. What do you think? Quote Link to comment
+The Mars Bars
A few of questions.... When can this be done...when is it being archived? Night cache? 28th or 29th Jan? Only asking because I'm working at NEC on those days and have an inflatable that I could bring along. However I'm working until 6pm both nights so it would be after 7pm before I could get to the area. Cheers Dave Quote Link to comment

Cheers Dave Dave The cache can be done at night - it won't make any difference as it would be dark anyway. I'm definitely up for joining you, and could do the 28th. I'm sure that it won't be archived just yet as no decision has been definitely made for the future of the tunnel. As I said, we'd only need to get past the barriers and then we'd be ok on the path... although the inflatable would be useful for getting from one side of the canal to the other, as you can only reach the cache from one side. What do you think? Quote Link to comment
+The Bolas Heathens
I'm sure I read somewhere that only powered "special equipment" are allowed in but I may be mistaken. Edited January 15, 2007 by The Bolas Heathens Quote Link to comment

Yes, you are right, but who is going to notice after dark? And that's for safety reasons if powered special equipment comes the other way - I would plan to get out of my unpowered equipment as soon as possible. Quote Link to comment

+Cryptik Souls Crew
You don't *need* a boat, its not fenced off to a high security standard or anything. Just make sure you pick the correct side to walk down! Quote Link to comment

SNAKEBITER
If the dinghy is a problem what about wetsuits? A winter suit 5/3mm will easily be good enough. With it being so mild you won't get ice cream head so special hoods needed. Just an idea. Quote Link to comment

+ZoomLens
It seems like we are now up to 12 with one spectator - Jimblonduk is bringing himself, +1 and then Alibags. Can we reach a consensus as to which end we will be coming from? The north end appears to be closer, but perhaps less friendly. What do people think? Quote Link to comment

Seeing Lollybob tonight so I'll ask her for some info as she has a few caches by the southern entrance. I'd like to do the full length... Cheers Dave Quote Link to comment
+Mr'D
When miknik and I did this we approached from the south. I did look at the northern approach but (from Googlemaps at least) it looked a little more built up. It would however be shorter. There is convenient parking at N52 29.428 W02 03.950, which for when using our particular 'special equipment' was a doddle to 'set-off' and meant around a 15 minute trek to the cache. +FunLovingGeocacher
I'm thinking of setting up a little store selling T shirts and hot drinks... I'm going to check northen approach this weekend as I've only ever used the south in the past. FunLovingGeocacher Quote Link to comment

+FunLovingGeocacher
I did a recon mission of the north end today. Off the main road there's a very nice dock area N52 31.039 W002 02.870 where you can park. The large fences blocking the tow path have gates in them this end. One of them is open - yes you can walk in. The other is not, and is secured shut with two sliding bolts. I probably should not be telling you this of course. Quote Link to comment

A load of us parked at the north end when we did it, its a better option if you are going to carry a dingy. You are naughty FLG, fancy trying to unbolt the gate! Funny you didnt see Bob there doing the same thing today LOL. He said its easy to get around it anyway! Edited January 19, 2007 by LollyBob Quote Link to comment
+LollyBob
Just out of curiosity, has anyone who have done this cache notice the arrows in the tunnel? They show the shortest route out of the tunnel. I know we have done it twice and never seen any arrows, but then again we were looking for something else We may see you down there as we have decided on a Dudley weekend, and I want to see what FLG is selling Quote Link to comment

With all this talk about it has'nt it downgraded the difficulty somewhat as part of the challenge was working out where it was ? Quote Link to comment
+Mr'D
With all this talk about it has'nt it downgraded the difficulty somewhat as part of the challenge was working out where it was ? I quite agree. Max (FLG) is, quite rightly, protective about keeping the 'access' secret just that, a secret; at least on the actual cache page. Anyone attempting the cache without picking up on this thread should still find it a bit of a toughie though, but no less enjoyable. Jon Quote Link to comment
+Pookledo
As one fo the people who set up the cache before FLG kindly took over the reigns. Good luck! And take care folks. It was a bit treacherous before the gates were put up. and yes. It is illegal to take unmotorised vehicles to the cache location and probably very dangerous too.
