  1. Put me down for 2 please ... that may be my retirement job
  2. Hi Kabads and welcome to geocaching. First, I would decide exaclty what you need as opposed to what you would like: - OS maps dont come cheap and you would need a fair amount of memory to store them on the PDA therefore maybe a memory slot would be useful. USB connection - much easier and infinitely faster than trying to transfer large files like maps or pocket queries than by using serial connections that older PDA's use. Batteries - some older (and cheaper) PDA's are a nightmare to change the battery, if at all. I would recommend one that the battery clips on to the rear and is easily changed or updated with a higher power (mAh) battery. WIFI - may be useful if you wish to take advantage of 'in the field' updating of cache information (if within a hotspot/fon area). Bluetooth - Some available software like BeelineGPS turns your PDA into a full featured portable GPS unit. For this you need to use a separate GPS receiver which can be either cable connected or more usually connected via bluetooth. Go for a PDA that is as fast as your budget will allow. The more Mhz, the faster. Handling large files can put a real drain on a PDA's resources. Once your made up your checklist, then I would search what models are available that fit your requirements then check out end of lines from online retailers and compare the prices to what is available from ebay or similar auction sites. Good luck and hope this helps.
  3. Our coins arrived this morning and look great. Many thanks MaB
  4. Ours arrived this morning, so much better than the pics. Thank you Niall
  5. When you ask them what they're doing with their arm up inside a tree and they reply that they're looking for squirrel eggs !!!
  6. Once you've cut them in half, scooped out the insides, shoved a logbook inside and found a way to join the two ends back together.... there isnt much difference
  7. Wouldn't it have been easier for a note to have been posted to all of the nations reviewers to post a reminder for this in their own forums rather than one reviewer having to translate into many differing languages. At least then the reminder would come from someone we are all familiar with and it would have been taken in the correct context. Just my tuppenny worth
  8. Our coins arrived today and we are totally overwhelmed. Not just with the beauty of the coins but also with the generosity of all who have helped to make this appeal a great success. We will wear our pins with pride and when asked, we will explain about Kaitlyn, Jerrod and their amazing family and hopefully bring a much wider understanding of this cruel disease. Kaitlyn & Jerrod, you have friends all around the globe who wish you the very best. Thank you for touching our hearts
  9. Hello, Im Mrs JBUK, Pleaseee excuse my hubby, hes been on medication for some time now and when he forgets it he hallucinates and his mind really wonders and he comes out with some really false statements. I let him think hes found the cache just so he doesnt feel so inadequate, bless him... Hope thats put a few things straight now ...LOL Mrs JBUK
  10. Congratulations Vicky, maybe we'll get there in a few years
  11. When I go to events, I discover coins, but I also examine them and if I like a coin or five, I add them to my "to buy" list. Likewise I take a selection with me for others to discover and hopefully give them the chance to see the coins in the flesh, so to speak. Coins never look as good in pictures.
  12. I would advise to take a good look at what sort of caches you enjoy and in your opinion makes a great cache. If you enjoy puzzles, set puzzles etc. If there is a genuine interest there, it almost always makes for a better placement. IMO memorable caches require a challenge, wether it be mental or physical
  13. Paid this morning ... cant wait either
  14. Mr & Mrs JBUK are both avidly interested. Mrs JBUK sometimes goes to events as the team representative on her own due to work commitments but we enjoy caching together Mrs JBUK loves the navigating and its amazing how many more caches we find now we have Tomtom. Mr JBUK always looks like he hasnt got a clue where the cache is but in truth, he is being considerate and giving Mrs JBUK a chance to find it first
  15. Dovedale is gorgeous. A good walk through the valley with caves to see and hills to climb if you feel that way inclined (Thorpe Cloud is a must). The stepping stones across the river Dove about a mile in make a perfect place to picnic. Car parking (Pay on entrance) can be problem at the Thorpe end during busy periods, weekends + BH's as it is very popular. Dogs are welcome but care should be taken as sheep roam freely on the hillsides. We haven't cached up there yet so cant comment on that aspect.
  16. Surely positive publicity through selected media could be used to sway the decision over landowner agreements, especially if some of the already agreed landowners were to give their verdicts on the hobby and the way that the land is respected (or should be). More publicity of CITO events etc. This would then give us many more interesting caches in great places, which would otherwise be out of bounds.
  17. "Oops, I thought you told me to get on that dire erec****, not get on in that direction !!!!"
  18. We find that with the broad spectrum of cachers, different cache placements mean different things to different people. Whereas some of the walkie types like a good long hike to get to the cache and think drive-by's are a waste of space, I know of less mobile people who wouldnt be able to walk that far and therefore think that quality is in a short distance from parking. Then there are those that you have to drive miles to get to, which doesnt really suit the cyclists. I could go on, but I wont...... We prefer a good puzzle cache to give our minds and bodies exercise but others hate them. We can respect that and see that every cache has its merits to someone somewhere. Sometimes it can be a challenge to see the reasoning behind some cache placements, but isnt that challenge also a way of making the cache more interesting to some?
