Pictures Of The Crazy Things You Have Done

Recommended Posts

I really enjoy looking through photo galleries. I was looking at the gallery of one of the frequent posters here in the forums and I saw this photo:

f26592a3-3739-4150-8cd5-06923dcfe30f.jpg

It reminded me of this photo from my gallery:

I am sure you have been caught on camera doing some interesting things while caching.

Come on, share some photos of the crazy things you (or your caching buddies) have done in search of Tupperware.

I have a relatively good one, which has never been unearthed. Up until recently, it would have revealed the "twist" involved in a particular cache, but the cache was changed, so I think I can post it.

Let me find it...

Found them!

I honestly do not think these pictures do the feat that was involved in retrieving the cache any justice. The pictures make it look relatively easy, but one wrong step, and you'd either fall about 15 feet into the very cold spring stream, or fall the other direction onto a huge dam of driftwood and trash from the September 2005 floods, and still possibly get wet.

I felt kind of guilty making my 51 year old dad go out and retrieve the cache, while I, an able-bodied 15 year old stood on shore, but hey! I can't swim, and someone had to stay with the K9 counterpart of TeamK-9, because there's no way she was crawling across that.

Anyway, here's the pictures...

Oh jeez, now I really feel guilty.

That would be IV_Warrior and my dad. This would be yet another case where I waited from shore. There was only room for two on the grates, and the boat was taking on serious water when all three of us were in the boat, so I stayed on land and patrolled the shoreline, taking the occasional picture.

Of course, I really took this one at a good angle. You'd almost get the impression that they were risking life and limb to simply pick out some garbage. I was standing on shore when I took that picture, and I don't think I used the zoom at all. Quite frankly, the boat was just barely necessary. The shore was maybe ten feet away at most, and I doubt it would go up to a taller guy's chest. But there's no way you could have convinced anyone to go wading in that water....

Hey, is your dad on the top side of the bridge that is in the first photo in this thread?

Nope. That picture was taken in good 'ole Fayette County, PA...

The caption I put on this one was "Heading out to the middle of the pond"

971428_200.jpg

The log I got to after this one was actually submerged. I balanced across an underwater slime covered log for about 20 feet to get to a bog island. In the end I had to post a DNF. I probably never had to leave the shore in the first place. I still need to get back and find that one.

My shoes were green after that! Seriously! Green sport sandals! Just from a little easy/innocent wade to get a cache in green water! I washed them and my feet in a store restroom shortly after and had to wash moss and algae out of the sink after. The pants stayed green until the next wash since we had more caches to find and such. Priorities! :D That water was really, really green, but not so green that I thought it would re-color things! Such fun! I didn't expect to see a pic of that here! :D

So what is the story behind your's? Why the stick? Fun stuff/stories!

GCKE4G - In The Future, We'll All Wear Mylar Jumpsuits

You had to wear a mylar suit (or other spacey/futuristic costume), wear a tinfoil hat, hold up a big sign with a futuristic message, and optionally balance the highly popular local grandfathered travelling cache (GCCF79)"The Rock that Rolls" on your head. Total smiley possibility if you did all these things simultaneously: 4 (plus one for finding and moving the rock).

Moosiegirl doing a foil-wrapped Princess Leia (note the hair 'buns' made of foil):

GagetGirl looking very futuristic:

Cybercat made the trip up from San Antonio in style:

NoseCone stopped by to phone in his smiley fix:

And the FTF was of course Austin's own very futuristic Mrs. Captain Picard, who actually wore her official Star Trek uniform to work that day:

Had to crawl into that narrow mine shaft to my right. Cache was back at least 100 feet and I'm pretty claustraphobic. Took me two visits to get up the nerve.

We did a little impromptu caching along the beach near Santa Barbara. We were on our way to this cache when we realized that we would have to ford the river to get to it. I had picked the bamboo pole up along the beach and was just using it to test the water depth. I thought I could make it across with getting my shorts wet, but as you can see, that plan didn’t work out.

BTW: I love all the photos so far. Please keep them coming.

At Ricketts Glen State Park in Northeast PA.  There wasn't even a cache in the area.

I become rather intimate with a lion somewhere in Jacksonville at GW3.

There seems to be a common theme here.

This is a pic of me after finding an underwater cache in the sea (FTF and the only one) last year, it was very well hidden between sharpened rocks, the waves pull us against the rocks. Bleeding in the water is a bit exaggerated.

It was hidden in front of a nudist beach, it was crowed. Try to think how nude muggles scared when they saw two bleeding and dressed guys coming from the water carrying a mysterious box.

Not me in the pic but D-Jollyman. We looked very similar after completing The Secret Passage To Hogsmead.

Oooh, the stank! Every step through the muck brought out this horrific odor. The kids didn't like the idea of crawdads nibbling on their toes either. :D

Now that's nasty, and I've shoveled liquid hog manure. At least I wore boots!

Here's CarleenP's dad the first day I took him out caching way back in November 2002. This was in Florida and there were lots of little cypress knees sticking out of the mud under there.

And he will still go caching (if the fish aren't biting) :D

The most crazy thing I've done is get up way to early to go group caching. No good pics of that though as I was usually not awake enough to work the camera.

And the log (and previous DNF's) that went with it were priceless!

Day One, Part One.

Day One, Part Two.

Day Two.

Day Three. Which is the log associated with the photo.

The picture isn't much to look at, so I won't post it in the thread, but this is me hanging by an exposed tree root on the side of a cliff. I was busy retrieving a cache and handing it to an old man who didn't want to make the trip himself.

Well, the first three fotos below are (to me, at least) really funny pics of my rear, and then my feet, upon entering a small storm drain pipe, while placing stages for our new 5/5 Psycho Urban Cache #7 - A Good Day to Die:laughing:

I really don't want to have to tell you how far I had to crawl into that pipe...!

And, here is a pic taken while I was gearing up to descend into the rusty steelwork under an abandoned RR bridge, 66 feet above the Raritan River in NJ, to grab Wheretogo?Vertigo!

K so this isn't me - but I had to post the pic because this is one of the caches that I went out to hunt down and find. Based on the pictures, we knew it was well maintained - it's this one: GCMTA9 - and the page at: Gilligans Island Should really be checked out for more pics.

Note that the water is ONLY supposed to be between KNEE and ANKLE deep.

(special thanks to Damenace who is pictured here and reminded me to rent a paddle boat before visiting)

Where to start?

Here's my (then) 16 year old son early in our caching career:

a3060293-d1dd-468d-973d-da98298c4ec9.jpg

This is a bridge I crossed over to get to a cache:

1551f506-3523-4462-a215-67e11e6fe7ef.jpg

Then there was this cache:

754bf48b-7f58-4ae5-80d9-d5797f4dbe6a.jpg

Where we lost not just 1:

5c3534d0-f9d3-48fb-b8cd-d22f1b40c377.jpg

but 2 cachers:

4cfd294f-f518-44b3-b1b9-0dba7fd368c0.jpg

We did take care of the evidence, er, remains in true caching style:

4c439e19-adf2-4a26-891b-f4a9c6d13064.jpg

and said our goodbyes before heading to the next one:

This one I attempted on a rainy, windy day:

Of course nothing compares to the horrors of camping with this crew:

Having to deal with rabid badgers,:

to say nothing of the leprechauns, lurkers and wild chickens, flamingoes, cows, pikas and pigs!:

Yep, we cachers will do pretty much anything.

Which I did after being dared to go out onto this bridge even after the cache was logged (instead of going out and back in, I just crossed it that way....):

In this take-off of the immensely popular "Fear Factor" Reality-TV show, contestants had to compete for smileys in three stunts, the second of which was the "Gross-Out" stunt:

Panic Factor, by your host, Joe Rogaine (GCKCPH)

Here's GadgetGirl and Mrs Captain Picard grossing out. The pool of foul green slime they're about to sample is one of many settling ponds at Austin's sewage treatment plant. There's a nature preserve that abuts the plant, so they weren't trespassing to grab the smiley for this event:
