  1. I worked hard to get my centroid directly over my house. My home coordinates are at my front door, and I got the centroid to within 25 feet North of that centroid. That put the centroid directly on top of my house. It took a lot of effort, as the centroid moves small increments when you have over 4000 caches.
  2. I did a PQ this AM and the number assigned to my PQ was 5003317. Apparently GC.com has reached a new 5,000,000 PQ milestone... CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  3. Placed on May 9, 2005, Tigger 2 has logged 59264.7 miles as of May 4, 2010. I would really like to know what the record for longevity and mileage is for a Travel Bug or Coin that is actually in circulation. This one was released near Memphis, TN, into a location near my first ever geocache. Since that time it has traveled, with the help of many special geocachers, to several countries and states. I am hoping it will make it to 60,000 by its anniversary date, but really, I just enjoy seeing where it goes. My favorite story about this TB follows: Tigger 2 was in a cache near Groundspeak Headquarters. I was headed through the state where HQ is located, and decided to grab it and take it to the HQ. I managed to get it, get a special visit at HQ, and logged the TB into the HQ TB Treasure Chest. When it stayed there for several weekly visits by geocachers, I was worried that no one would move it again, and simply spend time logging discoveries. Then one day it was picked up. I moaned when I realized that the cacher that grabbed it only had 2 finds, one of which was the HQ cache. I worried that it would be lost forever, but to my surprise it was placed in a geocache near Frankfort. It left there and went to Western Australia, then to Great Britain, and is now back in the same Frankfort cache. Hopefully it will begin its trek back over the "Big Lake". HAPPY GEOCACHING!!! pcsenn
  4. My brother and his friend, tweakers and MemphisDude, took me for my first cache. It was a virtual. I didn't even have an account at that time. I later E-mailed the owner and got permission to log the find, even though the cache had been archived. That was in 2003. A short while later, my brother gave me his Magellan GPS315, and I was on my way. I used the GPS315 for several years (with about 40 ft accuracy) and found quite a few caches with it. One day, while searching for a magnetic keyholder on a storm drain, the GPS315 decided to go for a swim. It was my birthday, so I went and got a new Garmin 60CS (6-20 ft accuracy). I am looking forward to passing the CS to another new cacher. I am waiting for the right opportunity, and hopefully have enough money to get one of those GPS/Phone/PDA units that are good enough(0" accuracy) to locate some of those difficult caches in our area...
  5. The guidelines say there are exceptions to the guidelines... Are caches ever allowed in National Wildlife Refuges in the US? Can permission be granted to violate Federal Law, and place a cache there?
  6. I am a premium member, and have uploaded a *.kml file to the site. The preview shows the route. Then when I click on the uploaded route name, it gives me a preview of a route in Washington state. The stats are correct (mileage and points), but the google map is incorrect. When I try to do a PQ, it shows no caches. Somebody help...please?

    Server upgrade

All I can say is WOW!!! The site speed is fantastic. I am glad to be a part of financing this upgrade through my premium membership. It is well worth the investment. Thanks Jeremy and the entire team for your labor of love. HAPPY GEOCACHING!!!
  8. There are many terms that describe geocaching. I came across one that I liked RASH Recreational Acrivity/Sport/Hobby). I modified it a bit to make it RASHO (Recreational Activity/Sport/Hobby/OBSESSION). I have only seen it on one cache page though. Perhaps others will like it and start using it as well.
  9. pcsenn wrote GOWT (Geocachers of West Tennessee) recently had a beautiful coin produced that was in the shape of their region. The suggestion was made, because of TN's three grand divisions, to possibly work with other geocaching groups in the other parts of the state to produce coins that, while not locking together, would match the sides of the other coins. That would make a state map of geocoins. I then posted this on the GOWT Forums, and then remembered these that are usually monitored by Jeremy. Perhaps you can offer other suggestions. BTW, if implemented in the future by geocaching.com, remember you saw it here first.... ... and as always, HAPPY GEOCACHING!!!
  10. What??? You expect me to show pictures of the stupid things I do while looking for caches??? What do you think I am? Some kinda idiot??? BTW, I don't think anyone caught me on camera...
  11. "They're concerned," said Hank Eskin, the site's owner... There's a number of issues that we're talking about it.... Officials at the Federal Reserve told Eskin bills have to be worn out, ripped, torn, or taped together to be pulled from circulation". There seems to be some discrepancy here.
  12. 25+ years of firefighting (mostly volunteer), along with a couple of years on rescue/FF. Also was one of the first in Tennessee to register to input information into the old NFIRS system (DOS) when TFIRS came online.
  13. I love urban micros. I can actually take my wifey with me to those. She cannot navigate the 2+ terrains, but enjoys the hunts. Especially when she finds them before me. She caught me on a Phone-A-Friend last week and walked right to the cache while I was trying to CHEAT and get directions... Certain care should be taken though, as the guidelines point out. The policemen are generally the geocachers' friends. A nice presentation page can be found at Groundspeak.com that explains it so that even the dumbest (dar ain't too many o' dem ) cop can understand. HAPPY GEOCACHING!!!
  14. According to Kodak, a disposable camera left in alternatingly cold/hot conditions over a period of more than 5 years might experience difficulties. However, due to the newer technology, the film is not going to be the problem. Film manufactured in the '70s was of a different composition, and had brittleness at cold temperatures. Those used today, even in the disposable cameras, is made of materials that maintain their functionality even at extremes (although if the camera shell is on fire, it probably is too hot to handle the situation)
  15. Actually, there are many caches that have nice trade items (swag) in them. The GOWT (Geocachers of West Tennessee) have a mega-multi (14 legs) covering all of West Tennessee. Most of the original containers were stocked with items ranging in price from $2-$5. The last leg was stocked with items ranging from $5-$15. I still haven't made it to the final stage yet, but the hunt will be fun without the swag. The total mileage will be about 500 miles to finish the multi so the swag is there as a prize for those avid geocachers. I would suggest that the silver be placed in the cache, rather than beside or near. However, if it is too big, it could always be placed in a small container and placed near the cache (with the owner's knowlege and permission). The owner might even have a suggestion as to where to place the container. As for the commercialization part of this thread, if that is your intention, we prefer not to have that interfere with our RASHO (RecreationalActivity/Sport/Hobby/OBESESSION) As always, HAPPY GEOCACHING!!!
  16. A friend of mine placed a log sheet in plain open view on a bulletin board at the front entrance in a 24/7 grocery store. It was not easy to find... It eventually was muggled.
  17. Maybe I will get a free one for being the first to congratulate...
  18. Jeremy and all Geocachers, Congratulations on making it past the 200,000 mark!!!!. This is a major milestone, and means I only have 199,590 to go, and 216 more countries. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
