+fox-and-the-hound Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I was just reading the PMOC thread a moment ago and noticed there seems to be a third designation. What is a Charter membership and how is it reached? Just curious, thanks. Quote

+fox-and-the-hound Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 Wow! Well then we owe you a hearty Thanks!!! for having a little faith and keeping a good thing going. I thought it might just be for retired people who cached full time Just kidding! Seriously, that's a real feather in your cap and I appreciate the quick response, too. Quote
+StarBrand Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I am not sure but I think I paid within the first 24 hours that a premium membership was advertised on the home page. My wife just didn't understand when I did it but now she uses the benefits frequently. Quote

We former charter members know that you also have to keep paying your yearly dues to maintain Charter Membership. If you let a gap in you drop back to "Member" or "Premium Member". Quote

Not sure "brave enough" is accurate - 'in the right place at the right time' might be moreso! I bought in within hours of discovering geocaching, I just discovered it a couple of years after the Charter Members did. In 2003 there was certainly no guarantee the site would last for the year our membership covered! Quote

+briansnat Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I'm an ex-charter member. I do notice that I've gotten progressively uglier since I lost that status. Quote
+Bud Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I must have gotten better looking after getting my Charter Membership; my wife wanted to be around me a lot more! Of course, that whole thing about getting her started caching and only having one GPSr in the family may have had something to do with it. Quote
Deego Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 What date range did you have to pay within ?? . I know I missed it but never knew by how much. I would have loved to be more attractive Quote
+flask Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 We former charter members know that you also have to keep paying your yearly dues to maintain Charter Membership. If you let a gap in you drop back to "Member" or "Premium Member". not necessarily. my wallet (bank card, etc.) went missing just before my membership was set to renew. my account was linked to that card, so my membership lapsed for about a week while i go the mess cleaned up. i had the forethought to write in and explain before the lapse, and happily my charter status was restored. there are no benefits that the regular paying crowd doesn't get, but only the pride of havign decided to start paying early on. +Kryten Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 And I thought Charter Members could leap tall buildings in a single bound and rescue maidens from burning buildings, another illusion shattered, sigh. Quote

+Stunod Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 (edited) are there any benefits of charter member that premium members do not? Originally, Charter Members were guaranteed to keep the same membership price as long as they kept up their memberships. But sometime recently this benefit was given to all Premium Members. Now I think the only additional benefit is the complimentary "Jelly of the Month" gift subscription. Edited January 11, 2007 by Stunod Quote

+emb021 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 What is a Charter membership and how is it reached? When an organization is established ('chartered'), those who are the original members at the time are "Charter Members" (the original members when group is established). So, this is not a membership level that one can later on achieve... Quote
+Jhwk Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) So then I must be an Uber Member, because I pay years in advance, unlike you pathetic drones who simply renew each month or year.
