+Divine
I just had an idea of cremation and geocaching.(Way to start a thread, huh? ) I did a search and wasn't actually surprised that similar thoughts have passed here before me. Anyhoo, I didn't find a Travel Bug suggestion on the topic yet, which was my original idea, so here goes. Suppose an avid geocacher dies and has his/her body cremated and the ashes divided in tens of little urns, all of which are equipped with Travel Bug tags. Then the urns get dispatched all around the world to different caches. The geocacher keeps 'finding' caches from here to eternity. (Till the urns disappear on their way, then they can be put to a TB graveyard. ) Would you carry ol' Divine in your backpack to the next cache? Quote Link to comment
+rusty_tlc
They were real specific about what I could and couldn't do with Dad's ashes. I'm pretty sure this wasn't on the "OK to do" list. EDIT never mind, bad taste. Edited December 19, 2003 by rusty_tlc Quote Link to comment
+Sparky-Watts
Well, Divine, if I didn't have room in the backpack, I'd at least keep ya in the ashtray of the 2nd Series Storm Buggy/Cache Machine. Quote Link to comment

Captain Chaoss
I think thats an awesome tribute. Make the container permanently sealed, don't label it creamer substitute, and cache away ! Quote Link to comment
+IV_Warrior
Sure Divine, should we have this arranged or would you like to wait for 'natural causes'? Definately needs to be permanently sealed container..... Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
I can't remember what TB it was but I thought I remembered seeing a TB that was filled with ashes that the owner wanted spread a teaspoon at a time at cache sites. The departed had always wanted to travel the world and never gotten the chance. Quote Link to comment

"Uncle Elwin" http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=15877 Edit - I just looked a bit longer at the encrypted "dedication" on the Uncle Elwyn page and realized I'd given things away a bit much. I found it in Cary, North Carolina on its journey from New York. It was a small jar with ash in it that wanted to see all 50 states. It got gross when there was a little measuring spoon attached with which the finders were asked to spread som of the ashes in each state. We decided that with airport security being what it was, we didn't care to explain a jar full of ash in my luggage or carryon bags, and we left it in the cache. (I think the name is something like "Uncle Erwin".) Quote Link to comment
+carleenp
Would you carry ol' Divine in your backpack to the next cache? I would be honored. I assume (and hope), however, that you plan to stay alive for some time! Quote Link to comment
+Markwell
Hmmm... I seem to remember this discussion somewhere before... Markwelled. I guess the reason I remember it so well is the nifty little graphic I came up with. Quote Link to comment
+Divine
Hmmm... I seem to remember this discussion somewhere before... Markwelled. Ah! I knew I couldn't be the first one to think about this. Apparently my searches for the previous topics missed the one you markwelled us to. Thanks for the link and great graphics indeed! Radman Forever
I wouldn't want to be cremated, but i would still like to be a travel bug!! Just put a dog tag on my coffin and haul my rotting corpse all over the world! Quote Link to comment
Laogai
Would you please pass me the ashes... WHAT? Divine is still alive and out caching? Ok, I can wait Quote Link to comment
+ShowStop
Well, Uncle Elwyn made it to Malibu, California today. Great views and just a wonderful day for caching. Log entry and pictures available on the travel bug page: Uncle Elwyn TB Page Quote Link to comment
+guitardudev
Well burn me up and send me caching when i die. awsome idea. You must be one twisted dude to come up with such a great idea Quote Link to comment
+DustyJacket
Would you carry ol' Divine in your backpack to the next cache? Heck, I'd take you from cache to cache for a while. It would be a hoot. Especially when talking to folks and I would say "we are looking for" instead of "I am looking for". It could lead to some interesting conversations. Of course, there may be others that I would rather encourage to take that first step. Quote Link to comment
+Lazyboy & Mitey Mite
I would be more than happy to move along someones ashes. I have hopes for my ashes when I'm cremated myself. I want them scattered in my ex wifes face. Quote Link to comment

I wish I'd known about Uncle Elwin earlier. He's very near me, but it looks from the logs like he's going to be leaving my area. Quote Link to comment
+joefrog
That's a great idea -- I'd carry ya around, maybe even dip the container into some cold beer on the way! LOL... even though my ashes are destined for Eternal Reefs, I'm sure enough can be spared to fill a bison tube for travel bug travels! Hoo hoo! Quote Link to comment
DaveOnAWave
Very interesting idea. I'd move you along, but I hope no one would accidentally empty you into an ash tray. Quote Link to comment
+The Neverlanders
Or a cat litter box! YUCK!!! Quote Link to comment
+Anonymous'
I wouldn't take the TB. I think that it's kind of creepy to carry around someone's ashes. Quote Link to comment
+Husker
I wonder if anyone has plans to have their ashes spread at N 00° 01.000 W 000° 01.000, the Virtual Cache Travel Bug Graveyard. Quote Link to comment
