New Geocaching.com Buttons by honeychile

Good job with the buttons. I do quite a few buttons myself (official disclaimer: none involve the geocaching or Groundspeak logos) and taking in to consideration the cost of button parts, setting up the designs, and of course, the ink itself, that's a very nice price. I don't know that I would do it for that. (Don't worry, mauler6 - if you read this, I'm doing your MAG buttons free)

Thank you, Pater! That's high praise coming from another buttonhead icon_razz.gif I really wanted to offer something reasonably priced that could be used as fun trade items. I've been making buttons as cache loot for about a year, and I like the way they're small and flat, easy to fit into most caches. Regarding the artwork, my background is marketing/communications, so I really enjoy that aspect of it.

BTW, many thanks to "R.A." my first customer tonight! That was so encouraging!

Now I'm doubly impressed. Not only is she a thoughtful and compassionate approver--she helped me make some modifications to a cache to get it online--but she's artsy as well.

Nice job on those button layouts!

BTW, how do you pronounce your name? The wife and I are at odds over that. I say it's "honey chilly," while she says it's "honey chil'" ("child" with a silent "d.")

Sissy and Grizzly John are right -- it's supposed to be like "honeychild" -- years ago when I started selling stuff on auction, that name was taken so I settled for "honeychile" (which is how it's pronounced in the south, anyway). I never knew how confusing that would be down the road. Lots of people think I'm from Chili or ask me what kind of recipe mixes honey and chili. icon_wink.gif

DOH!!!

Well, I guess I really shouldn't argue with someone who only rarely needs help finishing the NYTimes crossword puzzle. icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually, I did think you from Chile until I read your profile. I was wondering why in the world would someone from Chile be approving my caches! icon_biggrin.gif

icon_cool.gif Too COOL!!! I have collected several of these beauties in HOneychile's caches here locally! They are too cool! She makes them for individual caches too! My favorite one was the latest fairy tale cache button I nabbed out of her last cache she placed! My order is going in!!!! CONGRATS!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I just ordered several signature buttons from HoneyChile.

She took a design I liked and added my geo-dachshund. And I got some words around the edge. And then she made and mailed them. All in the same day. Just too cool.

The center of the design is my new avatar.

So far so good, somewhat new owner of a second/new Garmin GPS V 20 plus finds so far with little to no problem. We'll see what happens when there are leaves on the trees again.

How are these buttons constructed??

Are they the metal backing with paper artwork and a plastic overlay??

Yes, the 2.25" buttons have a metal base, with the color-laser printed graphic on top, and a piece of clear mylar over that, all smushed together through the miracle of button technology icon_wink.gif

There's a pin on the back - you can wear them or put them on a hat, backpack, or display them elsewhere. I make special buttons as part of the trading items for all my caches. Making a short run of a special button is no problem.

Someone purchased earth day buttons this weekend for their group's "cache in, trash out" Earth Day activities. I was happy to be a tiny part of that.

I can only make 2.25" buttons right now. Maybe in the future, I'll be able to get a 1" machine. A 1" button offers a pretty small "canvas" for a design - probably just a word or two or maybe the geocaching.com logo is about all that would fit. I'll let you know when/if I'm able to do other sizes.

Wow! Tried to go to your bumblebuttons site today and got this message:

"Forbidden

Access denied by WebWasher DynaBLocator content category. The requested URL belongs to the following category: Pornography." icon_eek.gif

I'll probably be getting a little phone call later! icon_frown.gif

I'm sorry you had problems. Sometimes if a filtering system is set super-paranoid (typical for companies that don't want employees goofing off on the internet or visiting unsavory places or parents trying to safeguard children), it will not allow any masked/forwarded urls to be accessed.

I have several domains and two hosting packages. Bumblebuttons.com is piggy-backed on one of my host accounts. This is not an unusual way to set things up, because I want you to be able to type in something simple to visit my site, rather than a longer string of text. However, the unforwarded address is http://justbeeme.com/bumblebuttons/index.html. That should work fine with your system. And when your system administrator calls, tell him to log on and buy some buttons from me! icon_wink.gif

This happened to me, too, but I believe it's overactive paranoia on the parts of our corporate web filtering proxies.

The domain registrar / hosting service for Bumblebuttons.com uses a single IP address (63.143.220.112) to redirect browsers to masked domains' pages. I'll bet that some 'adult' site is using the same redirection, requiring the address to be blocked.

As Honeychile has already mentioned, go to the source, and you should be able to reach it.

the problem with the buttons is that i could easily drain my bank account getting enough so that i can have one of each kind i like AND put them in caches.

i'm still not so sure what to do.

it doesn't matter if you get to camp at one or at six. dinner is still at six.

Wow! What a nice compliment, Flask! But no need to beggar yourself -- there's a 6-button minimum, but you can mix and match buttons. Just add any set of six (or more) to your shopping cart and when you get to the "comment" section on PayPal, let me know what assortment you want.

Thanks for looking -- all of you -- I appreciate the business more than you know!

here's the problem: i'm going to have to have two of everything, because they're beautiful for cache loot, and i also collect buttons.

additionally, there's an idea swimming in my head about a custom button i think i'm going to want to order.

i want them YESTERDAY, but i'm thinking i ought to consider more carefully before i start spending. how much are custom jobs?

anyway, it's not really a PROBLEM per se, but i still don't know exactly what to do.

What a great job! Thanks.

I often use PhotoSuiteIII to design buttons. If it's a really simple design I'm after though, I'll use the button design software that was put out by the company I get the hardware from, Badge-A-Minit. I'm no expert with either and often I get frustrated with PhotoSuite doing what I enter and not what I meant! icon_rolleyes.gif

I use a hodge-podge of various techniques and programs, but I assemble everything in Adobe Photoshop where I can work in layers and move things around (i.e., change my mind). Photoshop makes it easier to handle the complicated gradients that I really like. I also work fairly large and shrink the piece down when I print - on an HP color laser jet with halfway decent resolution.

The hardest thing for me is allowing for the backlit computer screen which makes a stained-glass window out of every design, but which sometimes fails to print as vividly.

Someone finally admitted to picking up one of my buttons from a cache, today.

I hope others start leaving signature buttons, as I'd like to start a collection.

We're placing them in caches in SoCal. They seem to be popular trade items. We're on our second order already and couldn't be more pleased with the buttons and the service. Even though the designs are great, we'll probably get some custom buttons next time.

I just ordered my 2nd batch of buttons today and placed an order for my grandson, so he will have a signature item of his own. These buttons are great, they will fit in about all caches, are easy to carry, and can be very original.
