+Ashallond Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I guess I have to ask the big question...how much would a coin person have to put up front to be able to do these. I know there has to be upfront costs here. That'll be the big issue for me. That and not being sure I'd be able to sell enough on site to make said cost back. I'm not real familiar about making/buying coins. Even though I do have an idea I want to do... This got lost in the event lists. Any info please? Quote

+Cache_Kitty Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) Lisa, is that you? Yep, Cache_Kitty is me! It was just a matter of time before I did one of these. Maybe some of you guys can give me a few tips in planning the event! Edited July 24, 2010 by Cache_Kitty Quote
+anne.and.eli Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I guess I have to ask the big question...how much would a coin person have to put up front to be able to do these. I know there has to be upfront costs here. That'll be the big issue for me. That and not being sure I'd be able to sell enough on site to make said cost back. I'm not real familiar about making/buying coins. Even though I do have an idea I want to do... This got lost in the event lists. Any info please? I don't have info on this event, as I'm sure it's still being worked out (cost per coin goes down with the more coins you get). However, for the 10 years! event, it was ~$5.50/coin, with 100 coin minimum buy in. So $550 up front cost. If you sold all 100 coins at $10, you would end up making $450. Of course, running an event also takes money, especially if you reserve a site or provide food. I know for my event it ended up running slightly in the red, but that's because I didn't plan it well enough. I believe the 9/9/9 event was a reserve minimum of 50 coins, but I'd guess the per coin cost was a bit higher since fewer coins were ordered. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say the 10/10/10 event will be similar minimum order and cost as the 9/9/9 event. So 50 minimum, maybe ~$6/coin? So ~$300 buy in. Quote

Mark told me last night, minimum order of 100 coins per color-combo and there's a price break if an event orders 200+ of their coin version. Oakcoins will buy back up to 50 coins of any event version. But yeah, this will run between $500 and $600 upfront to participate definitely. Less I guess if you plan to sell some back. +avroair Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 I am currently getting a quote, pricing will be around $5 per coin. Plus shipping. Minimum order is 100 coins, with Oakcoins offering a buyback or up to 50. So the upfront costs are upwards of $500-$600. I really don't want to see events in eachothers backyards, so please see if there is anything within 150 miles of you and team up... if there are two official caching groups that are separate then that's fine.
