+nscaler Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 This is the final design by Oakcoins from my idea. Christian is trying to decide between ordering 250 or 500 sets. Price would be $7.00 each or $28.00 a set - plus shipping. GC.com trackable and icon. They are on average 45mm wide. I don't know which color of metal he has chosen or if a LE would be offered. Quote

gridlox Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 (edited) How big is the entire coin set pieced together? I'll jump in here and help. See Post Below For Correction Looking forward to getting a set of these myself!! They turned out very nice! D-man Edited November 5, 2006 by gridlox Quote
+nscaler Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Christian is looking at doing 350 antique copper and 100 antique silver. Will this work right? Quote
+nscaler Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Should each zone have it's own icon or one icon for all four coins? I don't think a separate icon for each coin of a set has been done... yet. How about a first? Quote
ATMouse Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Want them, want them....when is this happening? Quote
gridlox Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Wait!!! No Alaska! . Been there! Done that!! Just didn't get the T-shirt! Quote
gridlox Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Correction to above post on the sizes: The approximate sizes (to the nearest .05" ) are: Pacific = 0.60" Wide x 1.20" tall Mountain = 0.90" wide x 1.30" Tall Central = 1.25" wide x 1.65" tall Eastern = 1.10" wide x 1.70" tall Complete Set Combined = 2.75" wide x 1.75" tall Quote
danoshimano Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Should each zone have it's own icon or one icon for all four coins? I don't think a separate icon for each coin of a set has been done... yet. How about a first? The Puzzle Cache coin set had four different icons. Quote
+Patuxent Pirates Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Definitely count us in for the set! Quote
+Prairiepartners Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Sorry to point this out to you , but Indiana is on Eastern time zone. Quote
+Ladybug Kids Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 (edited) Wait!!! No Alaska! . Or, Hawaii!!! Did you know that Alaska comprises 20% of the US landmass and covers 16% of the time zones of the 50 states??? Oh, wait, already made a pitch like that . When the time is right, we'll go for at least one of each set. And I won't even ask nscaler for the 4% discount requested earlier . Nicely done! Edited November 5, 2006 by Ladybug Kids Quote
+nscaler Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 We have been through the "Indiana debate". Sure the zones have changed recently. We (the forum) decided to leave it alone. I tried to get Alaska and Hawaii on the back. Then added on to the side. Thought this issue was concluded. 4%? Quote
gridlox Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Sorry to point this out to you , but Indiana is on Eastern time zone. On the images that I referenced to create the art, it was shown in Central or Eastern depending on Daylight Savings Time. Since they historically have not observed DST (until recently) and for artistic license & coin balance I left it in central. Defense Exhibit A Defense Exhibit B Defense Exhibit C At least they haven't been sucked into the Caching Zone like AK & HI!! Quote
+Prairiepartners Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 It looks like you chose the lower 1/3. , thought majority meant majority. However, your coin not mine. I live here (Indiana) and thought I'd point out error. Quote
+Prairiepartners Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 (edited) BTW nice coin ! but I'll pass. Edited November 5, 2006 by Prairiepartners Quote
+Ladybug Kids Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 4%? It was a toss up...4% for 2 out of 50 missing states or 20% for the missing mass of the coin. I figured that all you guys could say is "no!" Thought this issue was concluded. Yep...a long time ago...I just forgot . Quote
+nscaler Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 The coins have been ordered. 350 regular and 100 LE. Should be in the states in 15 days. Working on the icons too. I guess Oakcoins will be selling them - not me. Keep watching this spot. Post no bills. Batteries not included Void where prohibited. Your mileage may vary. Quote
+ClayC Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 (edited) Sorry to point this out to you , but Indiana is on Eastern time zone. I tried to tell them that in the original thread. but Ill still probably get a set. Edited November 16, 2006 by ClayC Quote
+chaosmanor Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 We're in for a couple of copper sets As for the debate over Indiana (and Arizona, too, for that matter; they have a similar issue), the fact is that *all* of the continental Time Zones are skewed, and have been for over a century. They were shifted, and shifted, and shifted again, to satisfy the needs of the railroads. Of course, most state boundaries are arbitrary, too. If they were laid out on practical lines, there'd only be about 30 states, or else over 100, depending upon what guidelines were used. Quote
+FlyinV Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 350 regular and 100 LE. What metals were chosen? Quote
+nscaler Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 350 antique copper 100 antique silver Quote
+FlyinV Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 350 antique copper 100 antique silver Thanks! Another question: Are they gonna be $16 a piece? Quote
gridlox Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) Another question: Are they gonna be $16 a piece? NOPE! I hear you can get the set of four for $64 JUST KIDDING!! I have absolutely no idea how much they intend to charge. I was just trying to funny. Maybe I shouldn't do that this early in the morning, huh? D-man Edited November 17, 2006 by gridlox Quote

+nscaler Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 I got the sample set today. Pictures below with a ruler. 2 7/8" long and 1 7/8" high! Quote
+NorthWes Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 nscaler - awesome job! Can't wait to get my order in for one of the bronze lower contiguous US timezone sets. Always helpful to have a map of the lower part of the country around when we're wondering when the sun set somewhere down there in summertime (or when our plane's gonna arrive on winter vacation in those lovely southwestern states!) Michigan is so funky! Love that peninsular action... kinda reminds me of the Kenai Peninsula here... Quote
+nscaler Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 UPDATE! The metals will be Antique Bronze and Antique Silver contrary to what we had been told. The antique silver is shown in the thread above. Quote

+fairyhoney Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Gotta get a set or 2. When and where? Quote
Team Macha Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Oh my goodness the suspense is killing me!!!! Tell me how to get my paws on a set! At least do a preorder puwease! Quote
oakcoins Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 The dies had to be fixed. There was a mistake where the die had 069 on all the numbers, this is a numbered set. So they had to start all over again! I dont think many people would want the same number! Quote

So they had to start all over again! I dont think many people would want the same number! Don't be so sure, there are a few collectors that request that particular number. this way they could all have a set. Quote

Defense Exhibit C At least they haven't been sucked into the Caching Zone like AK & HI!! Actually, the above map is the correct one. I live in the Central part of Indiana and we are always on Central Time Zone. There are 18 counties, (7 northern and 11 southern from the map on the IN.gov site), that are always on Central, the rest is on Eastern. All the Counties in IN are supose to be observing Daylight Savings Time. Bottom line though, it's your coin and it looks great. Edited November 29, 2006 by 501_Gang Quote
+Ladybug Kids Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 (edited) I've been trying to keep a lid on this since before Christmas, but I can't hold it in any longer. The next editions of the Caching Zone coin sets will be available in about a month. Here's a sneak preview: The 49th and 50th states are featured together... Here are all the new editions pictured together... This puts Alaska in perspective... Here's the full set to date... As posted above, the lower 48 states a currently being sold as a set of four. Alaska and Hawaii will be sold as a stand alone coin and Canada will be sold as a set of four. Many thanks to gridlox for making the overall concept fit together, to nscaler for good naturedly putting up with the small but raucous Alaska contingent in this thread, and to Oakcoins for underwriting the project.
