jermlac
What is your writing utensil of choice to put your name in a log book? I typically carry a two ended sharpie with a fine point on one end and an ultra fine on the other, or a pilot g2 pen. What about you? Edited February 19, 2012 by jermlac Quote Link to comment
brenda&&rew
A gel pen... they write well on wet log books! Quote Link to comment
sholomar
I like the pilot gel pens which I buy to use at work for online reporting and assorted paperwork. Also known as "pilot G2/07" blue ink, fine point. Bought some of the 'recycled' ones and 'limited edition' ones too for the heck of it. They are made in Japan too which is nice. They provide the non-gel versions made in china free at work but there was a stray gel 07 laying around for some reason and I got hooked. You should be able to find these at your local wally-fart. Or they are on amazon... as are the 'limited' editions. It's rare for me to keep track of anything but my keys and wallet... training myself to not just leave these pens laying around wherever and losing them took some time. If I leave them at work they'll inevitably disappear by the time I get back. (like how I got my first one.. found it laying around at work and took it. ) Edited February 19, 2012 by sholomar Quote Link to comment
popokiiti
A gel pen... they write well on wet log books! Agreed...but mine was not happy to go through the washer - now leaking in the garbage bin. So I'm using ballpoint pens for now. Quote Link to comment
FunnyNose
Hands down the best writing utensil is the Fisher Apollo Space Pen. If you look for deals they can be bought for as little as $6. Quote Link to comment
DragonsWest
When I can't sign in blood, I usually settle for an ink pen. Carry several with me. You can never have too many pens, because you can have too little blood. Quote Link to comment
hoosier guy
Fine point sharpie. Works well on any log wet or dry. Quote Link to comment
Chokecherry
One of those ultra fine point sharpies sometimes, gel pen others and in my bag I have a variety of ball point pens and then I discovered this green glitter pen that I like to use when I remember where it is. Quote Link to comment

Mitragorz
Pilot G-2 05 "Extra Fine Point." I like these better than the 07 because the don't smear nearly as much, the ink would always end up on the side of my palm. Not so with the 05! The 05 has been getting really difficult to find lately. None of the local CVS (and similar) stores, nor Staples or Office Max carried them. I had to resort to eBay. I found a 12-pack for $9.95 shipped. And that was for PENS, not refills! Much cheaper than what I'd ever find in the store. Quote Link to comment

I actually use the G2 pretty much exclusively, but I use the ultra-fine 0.38 which is nice for nanos, etc. Most people find 0.38 a little too fine for day-to-day writing and use the 0.5 or 0.7. I use the 0.5 for day-to-day writing. They also have a big fat 1.0. Mitragorz, I find my G2 0.38s and the 0.5s are regular stock items in the stationery/school supply aisles at Target. YMMV as the stock items at SuperTargets, Target Greatlands, and regular Targets aren't identical. Quote Link to comment
GEO-BREIN
I also use a gel pen. It rights on almost everything and even in the freezing cold. It has been freezing here for a few days ... the mercury went down to -16° and my normal pen wouldn't write. My gel pen on the contrary wrote perfectly well. Quote Link to comment
Rowers
Im a fan of the space pen. It has written on everything I have come across. Quote Link to comment
briansnat
Whatever the cache owner left inside to use. Though I find that on really cold days it can be hard to get a regular ball point to work. Quote Link to comment

Lieblweb
an INKA pen..... Quote Link to comment
Glenn
I carry a standard black ball point pen and a pencil. Between the two I've been able to write on just about everything. I stay away from gel pens and sharpies because in my experience they are prone to bleeding over time on wet paper. Quote Link to comment
St.Matthew
Once I took a hike over a hill for a cache and realized I left my pen in my vehicle. I took a small leaf off of a nearby tree and using the chlorophyll in the leaf, I drew a line on the logsheet. I mentioned this in my log, and the CO was gracious enough to accept this. +cerberus1
Depending on the bag I'm carrying it could have a Pilot G2 5, a mechanical pencil, a bullet type Fisher space pen, or a sharpie. Some bags have all four. Now that I carry a sorta-smart phone, I always have a stylus/pen with a Fisher refill. Kids can taptype on tiny screens, but arthritic old hands can't. Quote Link to comment
hukilaulau
A stick dipped in mud because I lose pens so quickly. But seriously, some great ideas here! Do the gel pens write on Tyvek? Quote Link to comment
CatchyCacherton
I really like/generally carry Zebra's telescopic pens for their size, but a fine-point Sharpie seems to be the most trusty device for signing logs of any condition. Quote Link to comment
sholomar
most of the micros I've found so far have either been wet now or were in the past so they were a smeary mess. I'm going to be honest and note this every time I find one like this, but I won't post need maintenance, I'll just post I found it. Hopefully it's not par for the course that all people leave micros in this shape. Anywhoo I saw they had 1mm bold ones and ultra fine ones on amazon and may order some of the refill cartridges for these to see how they write. Might come in handy for dry micros. Just ordered some '38 specials' Edited February 19, 2012 by sholomar Quote Link to comment
sidekeck
Pink Sharpie. Or pink gel pen. Generally if it's pink, it's okay by me. Quote Link to comment
secretagentbill
At some point I found myself writing with a Pilot G2 07 gel pen and found they are perfect. Walmart only had the 05 mil size and I don't like them as well. I have since bought several boxes of 07 mil on Amazon and keep them at work, at home, in the truck, the laptop bag, the camera bag, my back pocket... Haha. Oh and they're perfect for wet cache logs. +Viridios
an INKA pen..... That's my tool of choice as well. Writes upside down, under water or on wet logs, and I have it on my keys, so I always have it on hand. Quote Link to comment

T.D.M.22
Two writing sticks I always have on me are an erasable marker, and the liquid pencil from sharpie. Its just like a pen, but erasable and you can write on greasy/wet paper. Quote Link to comment
