ISQ Finds

I went out caching today and picked up another 38 Spirit Quest finds. That brings my total to 471.

I want to thank SixDogTeam all the people that have hidden the Spirit Quest series. I have really enjoyed finding them. I like to search for all kinds of caches. Sometimes I like to go hiking and find caches in the woods or mountains, other times, I like scenery caches or historical caches, etc. It all depends on my mood, the weather, who I am with or by myself.

I found the Spirit Quest series to be relaxing for me. If I have been working hard or under stress for various reasons, I like to get away by myself and find some ISQ caches. I get in my pickup, crank up the music and hit a group of ISQ caches. I can cache at the speed I want, stop to eat when I want, take a break when I want. I usually don't have to worry about muggles with the ISQ caches. Looking for ISQ caches is a great way for me to get away by myself and just enjoy a weekend of caching and forget about the rest of the world.

While caching today, I thought back on some of the more memorable moments looking for ISQ caches. I will never forget walking up to one near a bird house in a cemetery. I walked up and touch the bird house and a bird flew out and hit me in the face. It about scared the stuffin's out of me. When you are in a cemetery by yourself, you go expect to get hit in the face.

The ISQ caches has taken me to a lot of really nice old cemeteries. Many of them are family cemeteries. I can't help but think about the family history that is there. I wonder if the history is similar to my family's history, can they trace the family history back to their ancestors in Europe? What was their lives like?

I also notice names on the stones. I remember visiting one cemetery that the names on the stones took me back a little. I saw a stone with my father-in-laws name on it. OK, he has a common name. It is not surprising to see it. But right next to it was another stone with my wife's cousin's name on it. This is getting a little more strange. Then, right next to it was my father-in-law's brother-in-law. This is getting to be more than coincidence with three stones in a row with family members names on them. I took a picture to show my family. Would you believe the lens on the camera was fogged up and you could not see the names on the stones. Spooky!

My sense of humor causes me to laugh at some of the names that I have seen. I remember Bill Dollar. Think about it if you list last name first. I saw a stone today with the first name of Ima. I turned around and saw another stone with the last name of Fluke. What if they had married, she would be Ima Fluke. And then there was Inca Hoots. Don't read it, say it.... In cahoots.

Personal Spirit Quest stats

Found Spirit Quest caches hidden by 28 different cachers

I found 242 Spirit Quest caches hidden by SixDogTeam

Most finds in 1 day - 70

There were only 29 Spirit Quest caches hidden the day I found my first ISQ. I found all 29 that weekend. I had no idea that it would grow to the level it has. I am sure SixDog did not expect this either.

I remember one cemetery we went to, it had a Smoker's section! Must of had a dozen or more stones with the last name of Smoker. I thought it would make a great add for the Cancer Society

(Before anyone gets mad about this post, I am a Smoker myself, I just thought it was pretty funny seeing this section.)

Out of all the 100+ ISQ's I've done so far one is dedicated to my grandmothers family. Two other cache locations are within 30 feet of the grave site's of my relatives. And not some distant relatives either. One's I've actually have met. Amazing what this series has brought to me and others.

I was honored to have the Shadow and his team bestow upon me the responsibility of the OSQ (Ohio Spirit Quest). After finding lots of ISQ caches, I can easily say the Spirit Quest series, no matter what state, are my most meaningful. It's amazing to see just where you can find cemeteries, long since forgotten. Those places top my list of caches.

I'd have to GSAK my ISQ finds to let you know how many total, and by whom. But I can tell you that I was part of a (6) person crew that found 111 in one day. That was a hoot.

I was curious so I went back and counted. I have 64 ISQ finds.

Hey Joypa, I just saw you on Channel 18 news.

How about that. I spent my fifteen minutes of fame on a 15 second news clip about the smoking ban. Darn.

Actually we didn't forget Mystery Dog. She is on the #1-500 list, posted above.

Well I did the good a motherly thing and went through and counted Ali Kat's Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio Spirit Quest finds.....which is a little more time consuming with her not being a Premium Member.

I came up with 39 ISQs, 13 MSQs, and 14 OSQs for a grand total of 66 for Ali Kat (which would be considerably more if I logged her for all the ISQs we found when she was first born and slept through the finds :D )

This is a little off topic but I just wanted to say thank you to the folks that put together the Indiana Spirit Quest.

Thanks to their help this weekend North Dakota will join the SQ ranks. NDSQ #1-#4 should be in place and ready to find sometime this weekend. smile.gif

Cemetery caches can be some of the best caches if they are done correctly. Thank you SixDogTeam and the rest of the ISQ hiders for showing us that.

The World's always been kinda messed up, it was messed up before I was born, it was messed up during the time that I lived and it will probably be messed up after I'm gone. That doesn't mean you don't try the best that you can and make this a better world.

So, I'm standing there thinking about my options, and I see a minivan drive past very slowly. I'm still standing there thinking and pondering when the minivan arrived again and parked. The gentleman said he was a Lee and he was 81 years old. He asked who I was looking for since I'm from Michigan and he found it odd for me to be in his neighborhood. I said I was driving by & saw this neat spot and decided to read the stones.

He then told me who lived in all the surrounding farms, and then he started telling me about his friends in the cemetary. He said he used to mow this cemetary with a push mover for $50. He then said that the only grave he ever dug was for "trout" over there and he got $10. Then on the way back to the car he pointed to lacy Green, and smiled. I knew Lacy Green as far back as I can remember.

Well, I didn't qualify for a gc.com smiley...I never found the cache, but i sure enjoyed the treasure.
