+jtbrady01
On 10/4 a motley crew of us headed out to celebrate The Herd's birthday and do some caching. We ended up in Wisconsin and came upon a cache WSQ The Pauper's Cache. I was hoping that the spirit of the ISQ had reached another state. The cemetery is definitely interesting enough. However, once I started to log the cache I noticed that they only added the WSQ to the cache page. It wasn't a pioneer cemetery but, it was historic and quite creepy. Maybe one day the true spirit of the ISQ will reach another state. Quote Link to comment

+sweetlife
The WSQ has started, we posted 10 caches up tonight and have 30 more to put up online, we ventured out to every cemetery in Oconto County, Wisconsin and placed a cache there if we could. There are not many "pioneer" cemeteries in Northern Wisconsin as the earliest marker we could find dated back to 1890's but there were many veterans, some very old ones. Was a fun time placing them out, hope those who venture to find them also enjoy them. Our reviewers in Wisconsin are usually fast, so some of these could be up by tomorrow morning. Earthdog Patrick
what is an ISQ? Not to step on anyone's toes. Read the Indiana Spirit Quest profile link. It should explain it for you. May as well post part of it here for lurkers... ** ** ** ABOUT US ** The Indiana Spirit Quest is a series of Geocaches hidden in Pioneer graveyards and near historic sites in order to honor midwestern Pioneers and Veterans. The cache pages provide a virtual tour of the burial grounds' tombstones. There are over 650 caches hidden in Indiana by over thirty cacher accounts. The Ohio Spirit Quest, Michigan Spirit Quest, Ontario Spirit Quest, NORTH DAKOTA SPIRIT QUEST, and MINNESTOA SPIRIT QUEST are affilliated with us. In addition,We are the inspirational basis for the KY Spirit Quest, P.C. Spirit Quest, B.C. Spirit Quests, Colorado Spirit Quest, among others. Over 1,000 account holders have logged over 25,000 smilies on these caches. The series was started by SixDogTeam in 2004 and rapidly spread all over the state, then the midwest. EIGHT SIMPLE RULES FOR HIDING ISQ’s 1. CACHE PAGE—We want there to be a continuity from cache page to cache page, so that an ISQ Cache Page is instantly recognizable. We have a basic template that we use for each page—modified according to the needs of the hider, of course. The template can be copied from the source of any ISQ cache page. Thematic backgrounds are encouraged. Catchy titles and clever clues are characteristic. 2. PHOTOS – ISQ cache pages are known for their high quality photos—usually a long shot of the Cemetery, the cemetery’s sign, the cemetery’s Church, and interesting tombstones. At least one photo is always included on the cache page, the rest can be in the Gallery. 3. RESEARCH – The name of the cemetery, when it was established, and the Township and County in which it’s located are basic. Data about individuals buried in the cemetery or other related information is an additional bonus. Information about local Hoosier Pioneers and Native American Lore is prominent in the descriptions of many of our caches. Some sites have an abundance of information available, others have very little. Walking the cemetery and photographing and observing the stones is a good way to learn about interesting people buried there, if there is no on-line data available. 4. SPELLING & GRAMMAR – We respect the English language. We write in Word and use Spell Check if we have to, then copy and paste to the cache report page. We never spell the word Cemetery with an ”a” if at all possible. 5. NIGHT CACHING – Visiting ISQ cemeteries from Dusk to Dawn is forbidden and we note that on the cache page. We delete find logs that indicate night caching. We disturb nothing, trash out non-decorative items and do not move or take rubbings of tombstones. We strictly obey all posted cemetery regulations. 6. VETERANS – We try to honor veterans of the Armed Services that are buried in our cemeteries, by displaying photos of their tombstones or memorials and noting their service or giving information about their units. We particularly concentrate on older grave sites of veterans of the Revolution, Indian Wars, Mexican War, War Between the States, or a conflict that the hider has a particular interest in. We have a tradition of replacing worn American Flags at gravesites that have flag holders. 7. LOCATION – We try to locate our cache containers as far from grave sites as practicable. Fencerows and Perimeter Wooded areas are ideal. If the terrain allows, regular or small cache containers are preferred to micros, if at all possible. 8. CANINE CACHERS -- You need to have a DOG to help you in all your geocaching hiding and finding activities. If you do not have one, one will be provided to you at no charge, either as a loaner or permanently. While in cemeteries, all pets must be on short leash, under your direct control at all times. -30- TEN SIMPLE STEPS FOR HIDING AN ISQ CACHE 1. SELECT THE CEMETERY Most counties have cemetery lists on the internet arranged by township, or you can peruse topo maps… 2. HIDE THE CACHE If there is a wooded area around the perimeter of the cemetery, that’s the ideal place and can support non-micro sized cache containers, which are preferred. 3. WALK THE CEMETERY, TAKE PHOTOS You will need a photo of the cemetery, of the sign, or gate if there is one and the Church. Pick interesting tombstones to take photos of for the gallery. The more photos the better. Documenting the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers is a must. Tombstones of War of 1812 vets, Indian War vets, Mexican War vets should be a priority for photos. Of course, photos of any subject that interests you should be taken. 4. DO THE RESEARCH Local Libraries and the Internet are your best bet for gaining data about people and places associated with the cemetery. Primary focus should be on pioneers and veterans, but any related subject is acceptable. 5. WRITE UP YOUR CACHE PAGE, UPLOAD YOUR PHOTOS . Use the ISQ html template. Keep your template updated in terms of the opening paragraph that describes what the series is about (number of caches and hiders and seekers and counties) and the closing paragraph (List of hiders) 6. SELECT YOUR BACKGROUND IMAGE Use a thematic image you got from Google Images, for example, or one of your photos. Anything you want. 7. CREATE A CLEVER NAME FOR THE CACHE Use the format of this example: Indiana Spirit Quest #535: The Lonely Soldier 8. OBTAIN YOUR CACHE NUMBER Email the Keeper of the Numbers to get your numbers assigned. Only request numbers for caches ready for publication so the sequence makes sense date-wise. 9. CHECK YOUR COORDINATES. Each cacher has his own method for this. One final check is to note where the “x” is in relation to the cemetery boundaries on the cache page topo map. 10. SUBMIT YOUR CACHE PAGE FOR PUBLICATION All Geocaching.com rules must be obeyed. Quote Link to comment

Virtually no problems with the cartridge. I think with the rain and clouds our gps reception wasn't super which might have caused a little trouble with proximity between stops. We ran the cartridge on a pocket pc. We like doing the Wherigo caches, hopefully they will catch on and we'll get more of them placed! As you noted, they are not easy to make! Please Groundspeak clarify what is wrong with these things on the cache pages mentioned . We would truely like to know these things. Reviewers , anyone from Groundspeak someone please fill us all in so we are all aware of just exactally what the violations are here . Thanks you so much Quote Link to comment
+jtbrady01
I am seeing if I can get some clarification. First we don't want to blame any one particular cacher. Groundspeak did ask a while back that "agenda" items be removed from cache pages. These included the "Yellow Ribbons", the "I" or "We Support Our Troops". As a member of the Military Association of Geocachers we did correspond with Groundspeak on this. We may not always agree with the decisions made. However, it is their site not ours. Since the site is viewed by people from all over, not just the U.S.A. Groundspeak didn't want these on their cache pages. As for the logo we had worked out a compromise to have a generic logo that only pointed to our groups web site. The logo on the page that started this recent conversation was the generic logo and was approved by Groundspeak. I have requested clarification on the removal of the logo. However, the requests for the other items to be removed were requested a while back. With the number of active caches out there it just takes a while to inform everyone who has these items on cache pages to remove them. Let's wait a while until we here back from TPTB. I know it's frustrating but, a little editing on the page will resolve the issue. Quote Link to comment

+jtbrady01
...Since the site is viewed by people from all over, not just the U.S.A. Groundspeak didn't want these on their cache pages... Yes, we certainly wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of the Taliban, for example... Surely they have enough on their plate that they don't need harassment from some prejudiced moron on Geocaching.com. This topic has been one that is very sensitive and close to many of my friends hearts. As a Combat Veteran myself when the changes were implemented all of us at MAGC were not happy. However, as a soldier you understand that sometimes orders are given that you may not completely understand or agree to based on your beliefs. However, you need to still follow them. As all of us using this web site has checked off the user agreements we are bound by Groundspeak's guidelines rather we like them or not. It has nothing to do with yours or mine beliefs. With that said the information I did get back at this point is that the generic logo pointing back to the MAGC web site is allowed. Generic meaning it doesn't display any reference to "I support the troops", shows the yellow ribbon that many of us have on our vehicles. As for the cache page SixDogTeam archived a simple removal of the additional emblems and personal points of view would have sufficed. Archiving a cache is an extreme measure of protest. However, it's not mine to protest. Once I get further information I'll post it here. I closing we all have ways to honor and support the troops. Unfortunately, the guidelines are specific in that we cannot do so on the cache page. So, let's please honor those guidelines. Remember the reviewers are volunteers and they are just trying to in force the guidelines as they interpret them. Quote Link to comment
+501_Gang
So is this a 'Real' Ohio Spirit Quest or is someone making a 'new' series? SQ-Easiest Multi You've Ever Done by Hydnckr (GCJ779) Quote Link to comment
+Team Tigger International
So is this a 'Real' Ohio Spirit Quest or is someone making a 'new' series? SQ-Easiest Multi You've Ever Done by Hydnckr (GCJ779) This is not an "Ohio Spirit Quest" , in the tradition of the Indiana Spirit Quests , this is an SQ , you will find them in the Ohio , Michigan , and yes even some snuck into Indiana. True OSQ's, ISQ'a and MSQ's all have a number attached to them that and in the title somewhere it will say this iis Ohio Spirit Quest #___; Title Star. Quote Link to comment

That cache listing is part of a very old cache series. Team Tigger is right for identifying the titles of caches associated with ISQ. In addition, the cache pages themselves have a familiar and similar look to them thruout the series in many states. Very recognizable. Quote Link to comment

+otis89
I know I've only found 2, but why am I not on the list? Quote Link to comment
AREA 51 SECURITY
I know I've only found 2, but why am I not on the list? Because you haven't posted your numbers here. Now you have and you are on the list next time it is updated. Quote Link to comment
