+SixDogTeam
Genius Loci is a nationally famous Geocacher from the Chicago area that we had the great privilege of caching with once. He has nearly 8,000 finds and and was one of the creators of the 99 BoB caches. He is some number of years or so behind on his online logs, but when they hit they are worth the wait. Here's one of his latest, just arrived this week: This is an automated message from Geocaching You are receiving this email because you are the owner of this listing. Location: Indiana, United States Genius Loci found Indiana Spirit Quest # 223: TPTB (Traditional Cache) at 3/31/2006 Log Date: 3/31/2006 After literally hundreds and hundreds of ISQ (and other cemetery cache) finds, I suppose I should have been expecting it. Never-the-less, when it finally happened, I was ill prepared. I'd arrived, many miles and many hours from home, after spending some days on a cache hunting quest. Though it wasn't raining, the sky was dark grey and a peal of thunder rolled across the distant, solemn landscape as I opened the car door and commenced my search for the cache hidden here. Without ado, I located the stash, and had soon finished my business with it. Then (as is often my wont) I began a slow journey back to the vehicle, reading the old stone markers in passing. The epitaphs, the phrases, the names; all are interesting, and many strike a chord of pity, sorrow, or other varied emotion as they catch the eye. Yet never before had one hit so close to home; so horribly close that my very heart shuddered. For suddenly, I stood face to face with a name inscribed upon a lonely stone... a name none other than my own! Perhaps I would not have been so shocked were my surname more common. But for once, I did not linger to ponder the fate of the unique individual buried here, now passed irrevocably beyond the realm of human knowledge. Intuitively, I knew there was but one course of action I must now take. With a silent appeal to the heavens, I turned my back, returned to my vehicle, and set my sights on home. No more caches would I seek on this journey! Heed now my words, ye seekers of ISQ caches! In fair weather or foul, search out the spirits of ages past, and count them, one by one, upon the slate that marks the days of your own life. But beware that fateful day when you come at last, face to face with the ultimate! You may call me superstitious, a coward, or even a fool. But who among us can remain unmoved when confronted by the tomb with our own name graven upon it? Thanks for the cache... - Genius Loci ('the Guardian Spirit of a Place') Quote Link to comment

+IC1
I was talking to dougsmiley at Geobash and he mentioned that I should log how many I have found so far. It got me thinking that I had meant to figure that out, but put it off.... So After this weekend I have now found 243 ISQs, Not bad for only being here 1 year. I have also found relatives and men I served with, always a sobering remider that life is short. I am sure it has been said before, but, I enjoy this series for the solitude, reflection, and the occasional discovery of personal history. Mostly though it allows me to stop and visit with those who have gone before,,,, THX to those with the vision to set this up and help it to grow into an awsome series!!! Our Spirit Quest Caches are easily recognizable by our logos, mission statements and photos. For our purposes, your count is 19. There are similar caches in Kentucky and Ohio and elsewhere, that use the designation "SQ" but are not like our cache pages in look or purpose. Having said that, it would be nice if somebody from Wisconsin would join us and take up the cause and start hiding Wisconsin Spirit Quests that adhered to our Eight Simple Rules... that are listed on our profile page.
