The Hungry Caterpillars Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 We hope to do a flying visit to meet you all but will depend on traffic conditions and also The Head for The Hills event which it is said may have attracted up to 15k people into the Ambleside area(7,500 extra cars?) involving Garmin and Memorymap who are apperently putting on some kind of geocaching event. We are suprised nobody else has picked up on this but be prepared for a lot of newbies who may be let loose in the Lake District National Park area !! without a real understanding of Geocaching. We would not like to see Geocaching to be banned from National Park areas. On a lighter note we are dead jealous and hope to see all of you sometime over the weekend. Tim and Debs, The Hungry Caterpillars Quote
Pengy&Tigger Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 It looks like the geocaching part is run by a company called Outdoor Training and Leisure Ltd. The caches are all wrapped in black bin liners I wonder if there are any actual cachers involved in this? T Quote
The Hungry Caterpillars Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Do not think geocachers have been involved so we will be unaware as to whether due care and attention has been given to permission and placement etc What is worrying is that the scale of the event is massive for an area like the Lake District and even local people seem to be upset by various aspects of the event although they are used to visitors. Obviously we do not want any adverse publicity arising from damage to walls etc and also trespass Quote
mongoose39uk Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 On a less serious note! I have been speaking to Fruity and House of Boo tonight and they seem to be enjoying themselves far too much. Meanwhile I have another day of w*rk Quote
rutson Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 I second that emotion and add Sparticus to that equation.... Quote

littlejim Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 Obviously we do not want any adverse publicity arising from damage to walls etc and also trespass I think any 'geocaching' will be a very small part of the overall event. It's been advertised for many months in Trail and other mags for walkers. Quote

rutson Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM HOUSE OF BOO: Do not pay the campsite owner as they are trying to charge more than they agreed. Please pay HoB who are sorting it out. Quote

Alibags Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Latest hot news from the campers (received last night) is that several of them have now got sunburned after getting nearer to the sun than they are used to by climbing a mountain! Quote
Brenin Tegeingl Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Just to add to the news, the event was the millennium find for...................................... Read their congratulations thread to find out Dave Quote
Mittellegi Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Latest hot news from the campers (received last night) is that several of them have now got sunburned after getting nearer to the sun than they are used to by climbing a mountain! Obviously not a Swiss Mountain...they're a bit closer to the sun this time next week...I'll have done a little maintenance Quote
House Of Boo Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 A huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who made the Carry On Camping event (our first, but definitely not last) a very special and memorable time for all in the HofB. We were absolutely amazed at the turn out, the good weather, the positive atmosphere, the lovely cachers and the brilliant feeling of unity against the Wicked Witch!!! The only regret that we have is that we couldnt make the whole celebration last longer... if we could've, we would've! Cheers for hanging in there with us and we're over the moon that there was so many smiling faces! Till we meet again! House Of Boo (Dis-organisers of the Carry On Camping event) PS - Carry On Camping 2006 (the Peak District) is already in the pipeline so start preying for Sun, people, as it worked miracle's this time round! +BedlingtonDuo Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 What can we say? Thanks to House of Boo for an absolutely fantastic weekend - I dont know how it could be bettered - Carry on Camping 2006 hopefully!!! Once again, thanks for the weekend! Mark & Annette Quote
lordelph Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Fantastic event, well done Peter (aka Samwise Gamgee), Jo (Eowyn) and Boo (Gollum!). Although Peter enjoyed the title "Disorganiser", these things don't "just happen" and they did a sterling job in creating a relaxed and friendly event. I believe Jo has A-Levels in Witch Diplomacy too. Given a few more days maybe she might even have got the evil campsite owner into geocaching Quote
The Cache Hoppers Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Lauren and Liane (The Cache Hoppers) had a totally fabulous weekend, with friends old and new. Fantastic climb up Scafell Pike with the most stupendous Team Leader Andybug - we couldn't have done it without him, and one of us wouldn't have made it to the top at all without his encouragement! Brilliant camaderie on the mountain - there were eight of us in all, nine including Chester the mountain dog. Early mornings, late nights, long drive back home - boy are we shattered. But what fun we had! Managed a few caches along the way which we will log later. Can't wait until the next meet to see you all again. Quote
Alibags Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) I am glad you guys enjoyed yourself, I am jealous. managed to make do with a mega day of caching in Oxford. But 'wicked witch' and 'evil campsite owner'? What's been going on, do tell!? Edited June 12, 2005 by Alibags Quote
lordelph Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 But 'wicked witch' and 'evil campsite owner'? What's been going on, do tell!? The campsite owner was a little, erm, difficult. HofB got it all smoothed out, but not before the "evil witch" moniker had stuck! Quote
Team Maddie UK Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Lynn and I must echo all of the above comments. Peter and Jo did a fantastic job of organising this one. Although we're not the fittest geocachers in the world (hence our absence from Scafell) it didn't matter. Everyone did their own thing and the camraderie was teriffic. As far as summer time cache meets go, this is the way forward !!! Can't wait for the Peak District next year!!! Well done you guys and thanks so much for organising it, Martin, Lynn and Maddie (the bacon/treat/left over burger muncher Quote
Alibags Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Ooh! Hope they set Boo on him to make him play fetch with her until he collapsed in a heap, and then licked him to death! Quote
badger Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 'twas a grand weekend, so thanks to Jo & Boo for all the hard work organising it, and thanks to Peter for turning up... Enjoyed the whole weekend, and the cider jug is still in use... A smaller version will be released as a TB in it's honour! Really enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to the next one in the Peak District... Matt Quote

rutson Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 What a great weekend! Many thanks to the house of Boo for throwing it all together and everyone for turning up. Was good to get to know old friends and new better than the frantic atmosphere of a 'normal' cache meet allows. The Quest for the Ring just put the icing on the cake! Roll on September.... Quote
ANDYBUG&LADYBIRD Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Thanks for this event, the gang was great and a good time had by all. The trip up Scafell was fun(Even though I was the only one to chicken out of the summit-much to Andys disgust!!!). Can't wait for next year, see you all then, Andybug&Ladybirdxxxxxxxxxxx Quote
