+instep_guy
On one of my early cache hunts I passed a car coming out of a parking area near a cache location. I noticed that the car drove about 60-70 yds. and then pulled over. I could tell that they were keeping an eye on me and my son. as we prepared to make the short hike I saw the car head our way. my son and I "prepared" for what looked like an encounter of sorts. the car pulls up and the driver mumbles a hello. after seeing the GPSr around my neck they got much friendlier. they put in their log for the cache that they had checked out some potential cache vandals. question: are you willing to defend a cache against unknown people? DiverMan
I don't know if I would or not. It would depend on the situation. I would contact the cache owner via email in any situation if I felt something was disturbed. If nothing else, I would wait until the other people left and check on the cache. You never know, could be someone else looking for it as well. Quote Link to comment

But you're missing such a GREAT chance for a really ugly confrontation. Where's your sense of adventure. Quote Link to comment
+pnew
lol if they seemed nice enough I'd be glad to go over to them and explain geocaching. I certainly wouldn't start fighting them over it... wait a second maybe I would... Quote Link to comment
umc
question: are you willing to defend a cache against unknown people? I guess it really depends on what you mean by that. Please clarify. Quote Link to comment

+JMBella
I never turn down the chance to beat the crap out of someone. Seriously there are a lot of variables here. I would confront the people or person and explain geocaching. If they were there for the sole purpose of stealing the cache or vandalizing it I'd probably kick 'em right square in the... well you get the idea. I wouldn't just sit back and let them do it, let's just put it that way. Edited January 12, 2004 by JMBella Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Well now, if the cache has been compromised by my lack of stealth and I think it's in danger of being jacked I'd just take it home and throw myself on the mercy of the cache owner. On the other hand if there were muggles about but it wasn't compromised I would have to say that's why we hide these things. Quote Link to comment

+eddthejailer
oh yeah i am there for the cache!!!!! dont let me see anyone coming from a cache area carrying an ammo box!!!!! Quote Link to comment
mortonfox
I wouldn't because I often cache far from home and having the assault trial in another state would be a whole lot of driving. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
Plus it may be harder to get bail if they know you are going to leave the jurisdiction. Quote Link to comment

+Team GPSaxophone
I wouldn't because I often cache far from home and having the assault trial in another state would be a whole lot of driving. But you could go caching every time you return for court Quote Link to comment
+Bloencustoms
I might run off some delinquent kids trying to vandalize a cache, but I'm not going to confront some hulking behemoth over a box of trade items. It would make for an interesting log, though. Quote Link to comment
+crzycrzy
I can see it now... Traded lego toy for a broken nose and $4,000 in plastic surgery... Now that's trading way UP ! Quote Link to comment
