This Presidents' Day, your mission is

if decided to take it. IS;

To honor a past President by finding or planting a Presidential themed geocache in your area.

Do your research on Presidents; find a President that appeals to you, or find a President that visited your

area once, or find some other attribute that warrants a Geocache on your chosen President. In return you

will get some good comments in the log.

You may even decide to start a Travel Bug with a Presidential theme.

Best to plant it early though, as search engines feeds will be working beforehand to find that keyword "President" especially for Presidents Day.

Check out my website for ideas and wording for your Presidential geocache. Leave me a comment if you decide to

start a Presidential geocache as I'd like to hear about it and will give it some extra publicity.

Are you implying that we not honor a current President?

A current President is fine too! I have a historical perspective so that is why I said past. Plus as popular

as he is I thought there might be too many and that would cut into people planting geocaches for past Presidents.

So should I put you down as planting one for the current President? That's a good thing you are doing, I salute

your for it. :D

Sorry, but this screams "AGENDA."

Nope, placing a cache with historical info that honors an individual is fine. Doing it to honor a group becomes an agenda.

I won't be hiding one, as I'll be away from home. But MY mission is to find a cache on Sunday despite the 3' of snow where I am heading as it is one of 12 remaining days on the 366 calendar that I need to X out for that challenge. I must plan carefully for this mission.

Phew, that is quite a list. Any of them stand out as being more popular than than the rest? Not that represents

the President but location may be a factor.

Nope. They are pretty much all Park & Grabs. Film canisters in trees and under skirts.

Would honoring Ford violate the commercial cache rules?

I like it....maybe that will be our next hide. Perhaps an empty peanut tin for Carter, or a larger one filled with stuffed fat cats for Garfield, one filled with pennies for Lincoln, or a tape case for Nixon.

In SF we have Harding Park (a golf course), Polk Street, JFK Drive, among other possibilities.

We have this one - but are considering archiving it as it is in a playground and we are migrating away from playground/small park hides: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1f2fc8b9-af1d-453b-9286-89fd2025c638 (wasn't really honoring, just a play on words since the cache is in one)

I would have assumed that GC2695F would have been under a skirt, but it doesn't appear that way. It is, however, a small.

Rapid City South Dakota has statue's downtown of most all of our past President's - there is (used to be) a great virtual cache tour of all the statue's. Several of thewm also have physical caches on/near them.

I placed a cache with a very far-away view of mount rushmore many year's ago. Most people that have been by the spot never even realize that a (tiny) view of the monument is very apparent from the spot.

Maybe I will venture off that way and place another.

LOL!! Ya, you'd think that one would be a skirt lifter. :) Looks like that one is a small on a trail, though.

Okay thanks, some of these are good ideas. I just uploaded a page for the Presidents Day Geocaching Tour. I'd like

to see newbies try out geocaching because of this.

Also I am looking for suggestions. Here are a couple.

1) Upload a picture of your favorite president into the log of chosen

geocache at the website.

2) Write your favorite campaign slogan in the log. Ie: "I Like Ike"

or "Stay Cool with Coolidge"

The story I wrote has a link at the main page.

Not sure if I'll make the President's Day deadline. The place I had in mind will require permission and is only open on weekend a month so it will be a few weeks before I can attempt to get permission.

Maybe you could plant it close by but outside their property line and when you get permission move it closer into their

property.

Making adjustments with the Waypoints is not a big issue from what I understand.

It would be nice to see the one I think you are thinking of planted for Presidents Day. After all that is the day

he visited my area.

I thought I would check in and see if there are any new Presidential themed Geocaches to put in my watch list.

I will have a new one called "President FDR at Titusille" it has not been approved yet as I asked them to approve

it early on 2-21-11. It is close to a exit ramp for a major interstate so I expect some good traffic. But well see.

I will check back tomorrow for new geocaches on this theme.

We didn't place a cache for President's Day. But we did have to activate a trackable with a bird theme, and the item we had was a small wooden duck painted brown and green, so we activated the trackable as "Mallard Fillmore" to meet the bird theme and recognize the holiday.

Good! Trackables are good too for Presidents Day. I have a couple called Send President Cleveland Home and another called

Send President Harding Home. The mission is to get them to visit Presidential and historical themed geocaches and retired

at their perspectives Presidential museums. Unfortunately the folks that pick them up don't have the same inclination to

keep them on their mission. Thus creating a ripple effect where I am not that keen myself in doing any more.

Anybody have a suggestions for improving these type of tours let me know.

Hey all,

I just set up an event for President Day next year. Watch for the new posting 2nd Annual Presidents Day Geocaching Tour.

I would like to get some ideas flowing from those interested in not only using history as a theme for geocaching but how we

can use President Day to bring more public awareness of geocaching on Presidents Day 2011.

Looks like you had a slash too many in your link -- fixed it in the quote. For anyone else who has web filters like ours that block goo.gl, here's the direct link to the event. Hope it goes well.

We intend to find some caches around Harry Truman's favorite vacation spots in Key West. And if all goes well with our meeting, we will have some earthcaches coming out that are presidentally themed. Well, sort of.

(I was tempted to rename the link to the "3rd Annual Washington's Birthday Geocaching Tour, for the record. But I think we've had that conversation before, so there's no need to have it again.)
