  3. Join us from your own location, as we celebrate Presidents Day Geocaching Tour with finds of caches that have either a Presidential theme or a history theme. Let's turn Presidents day into something more meaningful than just auto and linen sales, let it be about geocaching with a purpose. Visit History Caching Or google us. Or Facebook search this event. -RKO
  4. We're expanding this event virtually to other locations too. Leave me a message if you want to be part of the and do the event from your own area. -RKO
  5. Here's the code to find it in geocaching. GC4WQBR I haven't tried Googling the code but it will be interesting to see if their search engine will find it. Maybe try the other search engines too. The code look unique enough. Might even find this post from a keyword search. -RKO
  6. We're getting ready for the 4th Annual Presidents Day Geocaching Tour. Join us for some historical and geocaching fun. Even if you are not in our area, log a historical geocache on Presidents Day and report it at out site at http://www.historycaching.us Looks like you had a slash too many in your link -- fixed it in the quote. For anyone else who has web filters like ours that block goo.gl, here's the direct link to the event. Hope it goes well. We intend to find some caches around Harry Truman's favorite vacation spots in Key West. And if all goes well with our meeting, we will have some earthcaches coming out that are presidentally themed. Well, sort of. (I was tempted to rename the link to the "3rd Annual Washington's Birthday Geocaching Tour, for the record. But I think we've had that conversation before, so there's no need to have it again.) Great, thanks for the tip. So Google shortener is not the preferred one. Too bad as it as great analytics. Will you be setting up your Presidents Day Geocaching Tour as an event? Here is the page I set up from my blog which makes a better landing page in my opinion.3rd Annual Presidents Day Geocaching Tour Wow did you see the replies from a couple years ago on Presidential themed geocaches, it would be great if we could get an update on them. -RKO
  7. Anybody find any new history themed geocaches? Please post in the comment section at My link
  8. The following is a list of trackables and travel bugs that I started that are history now. It is only fitting that they get remembered somewhere. This one was a travel bug called "Send Grover Home". The mission was to get thei Grover Cleveland TB to Caldwell, New Jersey. It did not happen but he did make it to Georgia but disappeared in 2011. Another similar themed trackable around President Warren Harding and mission was to get it to Marion Ohio. But he never made it out of Florida. The most successful of my trackables. A space themed trackable that was last spotted in Alabama in February of this year. I still have hopes that this space mission will continue. Let's not call this an obit thread (how morbid) but rather a history thread. A memorial to all those trackables that we have great plans for. To Be Continued.

  10. We had a great turnout yesterday. I look forward to reports from other around the country on their Presidents Day geocaching activities. 12. Kind like this thread. Not a lot of use but it's still there. You mean Google Plus of course. I throw my stuff out there with it just as I do my Twitter. Only takes a couple minutes. But let's talk about successful Google products. Google Earth seems to work well. Anybody here using it with geocaching? -RKO
  13. We're doing it again. The 3rd Annual Presidents Day Geocaching Tour. Promoting local history and geocaching together. 3rd Annual Presidents Day Geocaching Tour "you're not from around here?" Well, do a geocaching tour in your area and let's share our stories. Historically yours, -RKO
  14. Hey, I thought I'd run this idea by you all. Some communities I know are planning to plant 'time capsules' in a few months and I thought that a geocoin designed to commemorate geocaching and the area's history would be an interesting item to add. The geocoin would have a short history of visiting historical locations and would be revealed in 50 years when the capsule was opened. Although I would never know if they could find the tracking code in 50 years it would go to the principle of showing people in the future what we did for fun in these days. We'd like to get our local elementary school involved because they would be the one's most likely be around when the capsule was opened and could explain geocaching. Anybody have any experience with placing a geocoin in a 'time capsule'? -RKO
  15. Well it's almost been a year now. Where is this goecoin now? In a private collection of the original purchaser? Or did it cover some ground? I'm looking for a sequel here. se·quel/ˈsēkwəl/ Noun: A published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one. Something that takes place after or as a result of an earlier event.
  16. Very nice! Did you sell out? Or do you still have some?
  17. Thank you! Now are you ready for a Hindenburg set? I'm a newbie to this so excuse my dumb question. How long do these beautifully crafted geocoins end up circulating geocaches? I have a problem keeping a $5 travel tag circulating. Or are other geocachers more likely to respect a more costly geocoin? -RKO
  18. I sure will DRNEAL and BTW today IS the day 75 YEARS AGO! (July 2, 1937) I sure hope the coins get here soon as the festival is fast approaching. thanks! That's cool. I'd like to ask some questions. ie: what do people do when they buy these coins? They seem like they may make a good keepsake but that defeats the purpose, eh?
  19. We had a great event and everyone had fun. We also got an article in our local newspaper. Newspaper article
  20. When you use the word "But" it negates everything you say in the previous clause. Actually you're wrong, they are two different days. Washington's birthday is the 22nd and the Presidents' Day is the 20th. -RKO
  21. Did I mention that we have three geocaches located at this historic site? With some nearby cool geocaches like Space Shuttle History geocache. Self guided historic and nature trails with interesting exhibits. Also we have a facebook page where you can meet other attendees. Just go to the link above and looking on the right side to find the portale to Facebook.
  22. Cool, thanks for sharing. I love visiting Ontario. Send me the GC ID when you get it. Also I'm trying to get the good folks at Geocaching to recognize historycache as an official variation of geocaching. Then perhaps we can have different proximity rules. I can't tell you how many historical points of interest where we could not do a geocache because it was too close to some other geocache. Are you on Facebook? I strongly recommend it in promoting geoecaching events. I'd post a link to our Facebook event page but I'm not sure what the rules on that are. -RKO
  23. I will be presenting an award to anyone who can log the most historical or Presidential themed geocaches for the day. Please email me or join our Facebook page if you wish to enter this contest. You can do this from any area, your area and does not have to be in the area we are have our Presidents Day Geocaching Tour. This will help collect information about more historical themed geocaches around the globe. -RKO http://www.historycaching.us/
