  1. Just curious what people think are the best caches in Georgia. This could be the coolest caches or the coolest locations.
  2. I did version of geocaching in my last nursing home I worked at. With out the gps but set it up like a multi (clue one to clue two to final cache). My older people LOVED it. And it was good exercise for their brains. Made little cards they could carry with in case they forgot the clue. Without the GPS, isn't Geocaching just a Scavenger Hunt?
  3. I had a blast writing up this one from our outing yesterday. It was for the following Geocache. GC1K3WT The Lost Cache I typed on the computer screen, asking our friends if they had anything going on today. I mentioned Geocaching, something they had never heard of, and I suggested that we fly to the Ville of Fayette to teach them how to do it. FLASH Awaking after the crash, we couldn't believe where we were. We hiked for some time, finding mysterious white balls everywhere. We feared they were polar bear eggs, but lucky we didn't find any fully grown ones. There was a strange sound heard over head, but we ignored it, not thinking anything of it as we pressed forward. We traveled over the hills and through the water. Lizards scattered as we moved, and we came across a strange make shift campsite that must have been from the tail section. We foraged for what we could and then moved on. This was when things got interesting. FLASH I searched my pockets and realized our mistake. I had left the pen. "We have to go back!" I screamed. "We have to go back!" FLASH We were attacked by a rolling green thorned smoke monster. As we tried to escape, the trees and bushes literally shook from it's power. The bald one and I decided to fight the monster once and for all, plowing through it full force. While it tried to rip us a part, we somehow managed to defeat it once and for all, but not before it deposited small mysterious creatures that attempted to suck our blood for the rest of the adventure. After defeating the smoke monster, we found our prize. A short Canadian wearing yellow spandex that was rather strange. He told us he was one of the good guys...and called us Bub. We decided to back track, thinking we made a wrong turn. The strange Canadian tried to get us to go another way, but eventually he became very helpful, and one of the cooler people on this adventure. We escaped, finally free from this place forever. We all had a big smilie on our face with our victory.
  4. 1) Floating geocaches that you need your personal jetpack to get to and sign. 2) Time Geocaches - Geocaches placed at certain places in the past that you need your Deloreon to get to. In all seriousness, I see the rise of the Commercial Cache. They're disallowed at the moment, but in a way for Groundspeak to make money, I can see where, for a price, businesses can place their own Geocaches in an attempt to make money for their business. I could see a restaurant having a cache inside their place, and to get the cache you have to order something specific off the menu. Then you are presented the cache and get to sign the log.
  5. Landmines should do the job. Although routine maintenance might take on a whole new meaning.
  6. Sometimes it's hard to tell people's intentions in messages such as this. I know I've rewritten stuff that I thought were funny, but then rereading it, realized that it could be meant as insulting. I started off a log that I had a lot of trouble getting to (but a lot of fun at the same time) by calling him a dirtbag. It was meant in a jesting way, but if you're not in that frame of mind, you could take it as an insult. Could the logger have meant it in jest, but it's just coming off poorly due to not knowing the person's intentions? That's how I would have taken it if I had gotten something like that.
  7. ...and I'm STILL eagerly awaiting the haunted series, LOL! :-) *hovering anxiously, watching for new haunted cache postings* LOL I haven't had any paranormal experiences in my caching, but there is one cemetery in Madison, GA, that has a section of at least 51 Unknown Confederate Dead and several (I quote directly) Unknown Negro Hospital Workers - that's how the tombstones read - that really, really had an impact on me. Just the immensity of the history and the sorrow of the place was overwhelming. I wrote about it HERE. I adore history and love to think of the stories of the people who once roamed historical areas, but my imagination was in high overdrive there, LOL. By the time I left, I was literally looking over my shoulder, half-expecting to see someone watching me, LOL. It was very cool...can't wait to go back! That's cool. We were just there this past weekend and cleaned out all the caches in Madison. Loved that one. And we really did have someone watching us. There was a guy walking his dog on the otherside that was just watching us as we walked around. He did make things a little creepy. And I'm still working on mine. I want to set them all out at the same time, so I'm working on building the caches and then I'll set them out and get everything ready.
  8. It's obviously the remains of a Chupacabra.
  9. Not sure how effective this is, but the property owner where my cache is located on swears that putting Skin So Soft on keeps them off your body. He says he even will put it on his clothing sometimes, and he's never had a problem, and he goes through the woods all the time. Not sure the science behind it, but he swears by it.
  10. I plan on placing a series of caches in local haunted places, most of which I have had personal experiences at, albeit not while Geocaching. Some are just well known haunted locations, and some will surprise a few people in the area, but are supposedly haunted by a local paranormal investigator. (not that the paranormal investigators are haunting it)
  11. I agree! Never eaten at AJ's, but Lighthouse Pizza may not look like much, but it has some of the best pizza I've had.
  12. With this being right down the road form me, we're going to have to make a drive out to Fayetteville to see this one. This idea is used quite frequently in haunted houses for the ole "sawed in half" character. Neat idea for a cache.
  13. I would have loved to find that. I run a haunted house and this year's theme is an asylum. That would have been so cool to include into it. Now you've made me go look on ebay for something like that.
  14. I have one to add to this. A lottery ticket. More importantly, a used lottery ticket. Even more...a losing lottery ticket. And then there's the one we found today. A winning lottery ticket. A winning lottery ticket that was worth $500. A winning lottery ticket that had yet to be claimed. So we cashed it in. Only to find... It was a winning lottery ticket that had expired over two years ago. I laugh about it, but that means somebody was sitting on a $500 lottery ticket that was never claimed.
  15. For me, the day I uploaded the information, was the same day that it got reviewed and published. However, reading what others have said, it usually takes about 3 days. If it's taken longer than that, depending on the area your in, it could be that your reviewer hasn't had the chance to review it yet. Maybe he's trying to find more info about it for some reason, or it maybe just a fact that the reviewer has had issues off the computer where he hasn't been able to check it out in the normal time. I wouldn't worry about it though. It'll get reviewed. I know it's annoying. Even knowing that it could take several days, I was constantly refreshing my page waiting to see if it had been reviewed yet. I just got lucky with a reviewer who did it extremely fast.
  16. My wife is paranoid of this happening to us. We've been caching for a few months now, and every time we go searching for a cache, she makes a comment that she thinks we're going to get arrested. For me, it's not a big deal. The only incident we've had has not been from a LEO, but from a security guard in an old red pick-up. There's an abandoned Wal-Mart building here that has a nano next to it. For some reason, they have 24 hour security there, and anytime you even pull into the parking lot, the red pick-up will begin to follow you. If you get out, she'll say something to you, and even if you explain to her what you are doing, she threatens to call the cops. People have been able to get it, but it's when she's been off duty and another one is there in her place. It's not on private property, and the owner has permission to have it placed there, but the security guard just likes to shove her weight around and make life harder for people trying to find it. Outside of that, I don't think we've even seen a cop while searching for a cache.
  17. I'm very upset that the website has no information about Georgia related stuff. I believe they should be severely reprimanded for that. Yes, yes I do.
  18. My wife and I are making a day trip to Macon on Saturday to eat at Cheddars and go to the mall. Any suggestions on some of the best and most interesting caches in Macon?
  19. We found a cache two weekends ago that had cigarettes in it. I couldn't believe it. We promptly got rid of them.
  20. My wife and I visit Tybee / Savannah quite often. The last time was back in January. It was here that we failed miserably at trying to start geocaching, before deciding to try it first a little closer to home. We can't wait to go back, with more experience under our belt, and find the ones that vexed us in the beginning.
  21. I just placed my first cache, and I've made a decision that I don't want to place any plain ole caches out when I place them. For my first one I placed a birdfeeder out in a wooded area by a creek that people fish at. If you look at it, you wouldn't notice anything weird about it, because I have the plastic "windows" covered in birdseed that has been superglued to it. To get to the cache, you have to lift the top off of it, and find it inside. My wife loved it when she saw it. I don't have any photos of it at the moment, but when I do, I'll post it.
  22. Had a nice over night trip to Helen, GA, which passed us through Gainesville, GA. Wanted to specifically do the Bamboo Forest cache there, where I happened upon a baby copperhead while looking through a pile of debris. Luckily (well unluckily for the snake) it was dead, but still scared the crap out of me. Found the cache, had a great lunch, and then made it to Helen. It was a nice little trip.
  23. This sums it up for me as well. I've learned about so many places in the last month that I've been caching that are right around me, that I never knew if it weren't for trying to find a cache.
  24. Thanks. My photos are of the larger variety, so that is probably the reason. But this must be a newer problem, seeing I uploaded other ones earlier in the month, that were just as large, with no issues. I'll resize and try it. Thanks.
