+Okiebryan
Last night my GF and I went to the State Fair. We were admiring the various exhibits entered by kids from around the state, when some camo tape caught my eye. HEY! That looks like a cache! Sure enough there were a few kids who had entered cache containers and a short explanation of geocaching into the fair. While nobody was around, I opened up a lock and lock, grabbed the logbook, and quickly signed the log. Then I put it all back just as I had found it. Since it's the opening day of the fair, I wonder if any other cachers will find it and sign the log before the fair is over? I guess the better question is, will the kid who entered this find the signature funny, or did I just vandalize their project? I hope not. It's not like there's anything I can do about it now. It seemed like a great idea at the time, and if I hadn't done it, I'd be sitting here now wishing that I had. Quote Link to comment

It was a geocache and someone found it, signed the log and returned it to it's spot. How could that be wrong? Quote Link to comment

Outraged that they went to get FTF and discovered someone had logged it OMGZ!!?!?!!?! before it was published! That's ok... I'm already known as a bit of a FTF Whore in my local area, anyway. I even have "FTF" on the license plate of my motorcycle... OMGZ!!?!?!!?! Too funny. I don't know how people who live like that function. Edited September 18, 2009 by Okiebryan Quote Link to comment
knowschad
Funny you should ask. A recent thread in the MNGCA forum: http://mngca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4986 Did anyone else see this display and also slip in there own log sheet? I wonder how many log will be found when the exhibit is taken down. Blue ribbon Beltrami County Theme: “Geocaching” Exhibitor’s Choice: Originality Quote Link to comment

+Vater_Araignee
All you did was verify that it was legitimize it as a geocache. Probably gave more than one good person a surprise too. Did ya make a trade? Quote Link to comment
PastorJon
At our fair last year, the local 4-H group had done an exhibit on geocaching, as well as having some GPSrs to check out in order to find a couple of caches that had been hidden on the fairground by the 4-Hers. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
Now, you just have to find the GC code to log it on-line. ROFLMAO Quote Link to comment

+Arrow42
I opened up a lock and lock, grabbed the logbook, and quickly signed the log. It had a log. I would consider that to be an invite for a signature. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Opening a cache and signing the logbook is a natural act, nothing to be ashamed of. Quote Link to comment
Skippermark
I don't know if I would have done it, but I don't think I'd be mad if I was the owner. He'll probably laugh think it was funny when he opens the logbook and sees a signature. Probably better doing it that way than going up to him if he was there and saying, "Hey, is that a geocache? Cool. Can I sign it?" Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
Opening a cache and signing the logbook is a natural act, nothing to be ashamed of. Yeah, pretty-much a reflex response, eh...like sleep-walking. Since it wasn't done in a mean-spirited way, I don't see a problem. Probably that sig is confusing the heck out of the exhibitor about now, though! Quote Link to comment
aniyn
Hmm... Now according to the rules, you can log that cache as a find. You just have to find out where they hid it I'm sure the owner LOVED finding your signature in it. Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
If I owned that particular Lock & Lock, and later discovered that a cacher had signed it unbeknownst to me, my thought would be: "That's just too freekin' kewl!" Once it got hidden & published, I would send you a discrete invite to log it as a find, if you were so inclined. Quote Link to comment
+Skyjuggler
Good Job... After all, if there is a log book... It needs to be signed!!! I'd be well chuffed if I were the cache owner. I'd be surprised if the cache owner opened it, saw the log and WASN'T amused! Quote Link to comment

It's a cache with a logbook, and right there in front of me, after all. about 48% on either side, with 4 percent pondering. Quote Link to comment

Personally I think this is one of those serendipitous moments that are far too rare in life. You seized it. Well done. Now go log an event cache to claim your find and post if that was ok and start another debate. Quote Link to comment

+Team A & M
Personally, if it was my display and I saw that, I'd be elated! Somewhere out there is a cacher that knew what it was and signed the log. I really think it enhances the display. Quote Link to comment
CoyoteRed
I guess the better question is, will the kid who entered this find the signature funny, or did I just vandalize their project? I don't know. That's up to him. Myself, I wouldn't have presumed it was okay. It's one thing to claim a find on a cache you've stumbled upon. Quite another to claim finds on caches that haven't been placed. What's next, you're going to go hunt down Clan Riffster's truck and sign the yet-to-be-hidden caches in the bed? Quote Link to comment
glorkar
I don't think I'd count it as an official find, but if I were the cache owner, I would think it was hilarious Quote Link to comment

Been there, done that! Walking past the owner's jeep at an event one time we spotted a few ammo cans in the back. Never did get the gc# to log them though. Back OT-I think it was OK to sign the log on the display at the fair. I hope the owner of the display takes the gesture in the spirit in which it was done. After all, you signed the log, not the outside of the container. Quote Link to comment

That is a good idea. Next time I see a newly posted cache, I may stake it out, and wait for FTF hounds to arrive, then try to log unhidden caches in there trucks. Quote Link to comment
