Great! Now, where's the Colorado 400t update?

Map redraw is fantastic.

And I can now plug in to my PC, with the unit powered off, and have it power up in Spanner. That wasn't working in 3.01.

Looks like we finally have a real winner.

I didn't have any problems with spanner so maybe I'll just install it because of the compass and redraw speeds. But thanks for the info about changes.

EDIT: I haven't noticed any improvements in map redraw speed so maybe they already had that in 3.01.

I may not be describing the issue correctly.

With 3.01, if the unit was powered off, when I plugged in the PC USB cable, the unit would appear to start up and then the screen would fade to black. This only started with 3.01. I have it set to Spanner mode so that it prompts me to go into Mass Storage mode or not.

With 3.10, plugging it in works correctly.

I know what you mean (I have the exact same setup) and I didn't have that problem in 3.01. I guess that some devices worked and some had this problem you mention.

As I've mentioned many times in the Beta threads, only my Automotive profile was not working with Spanner mode. My other profiles were working properly. With 3.10, my Automotive works great with Spanner mode. It may have just been a particular setting that was causing the bug.

The following bug still exists. I've reported it a couple of times. With this image

If you drag the map and release your finger in the button that says "Eastwood Golf Club", you'll get this:

Yes. That's exactly the thing I see on my maps so map redraw speed is the same on my device (I can't see any difference).

I can't reproduce. Drag finger from very bottom of screen?

Maingray,

Drag from anywhere on the screen and release your finger while it is in the button at the top. You have to have a "pushpin" and the button at the top of the screen.

*) Improved render quality of GB Discoverer maps and maps with satellite imagery

What does it mean?

Can we use now or own sat-images - what kind of format? (TIFF, ECW, ...)

I could be wrong but I doubt that we can use our own satellite imagery in any type of rather simple application.

I suspect that the improved render quality of maps with satellite imagery is directed at the known problem of the satellite imagery used in the base map of the g2 Blue Charts on the OR & CO 400c units. These units would not display maps properly when other maps were Enabled along with the g2 Blue Charts. It was a serious problem in the normal function of zooming out on these units... no map would be viewable in some situations after zooming out considerably.

edit: corrected unit model; from 400i to 400c

I wish. I expect its referring to the limited imagery in BlueChart maps used with the 400i and 400c models.

EDIT: Ah, eaparks beat me to it.

Is 3.10 only available via Webupdater? I searched the Garmin site but only the 3.01b was still available for a manual install.

3.10

I downloaded the 3.10 from that WIKI. It is a "GCD" file whatrever that is, I've never heard of a GCD.

I try to run that update I downloaded and it starts webupdater, but then gives an error about a problem with packets being downloaded.

I have tried updating using WebUpdater and keep getting an error message that the "Update File is Corrupted".

I have the most current webupdater too, which is 2.4.2

Anyone else ?

I still don't see 3.10, the WIKI only shows 3.01.

Worked fine on my wife's 400t this morning. Make sure you have the latest version of WebUpdater downloaded and installed. I'm not sure of the version number.

Went from 2.80 to 3.10 with webupdater, no problem. I do notice that on this version the >setup>main menu does not seem to work. You cannot move the selections around like before. Looks like you can only delete.

One of the betas changed the way you move them. You select the one that you want to move, it highlights. Then you select the position that you want it in and it will swap into that position. It's a lot easier.

mobCacher,

Thanks... I found the file.... it's in a .GCD file format whatever the heck that is...

I downloaded it and ran the webupdater ( I have latest v 2.4.2 ) and STILL keep getting the message "Update File Corrupted".

So I don't have a clue what's wrong... I never had a problem like this updating.

I did a couple of caches this afternoon with my Oregon and PN40SE side by side and the Oregon is definitely improved, I am almost tempted to say greatly.

I experienced no overshoot and as you arrived at GZ it was steady and pointy like right where it is supposed to be.

It was advantage Oregon today!

Following your instructions (but with a different map location) I can reproduce the problem you are seeing. Most likely it is the same with the "+" and "-" buttons for zooming the map too. If I were a betting man, I would say that the developer probably assumes that the finger release is handled by the button because that is where the finger is when it is released. In this case, the button isn't handling the action though...

OK, here is one I've seen twice since my upgrade now. This morning when I left home to go to work, and this evening when I left work to come home. I turn my Oregon 400t on, then when I get to my truck, I connect an external power cable (an actual Garmin car power adapter), When I pull out of the parking place, I already have a satellite lock, and generally reporting about a 10-15' "GPS Accuracy". The issue I have seen twice now is that the "wedge pointer" on the screen sems to always be facing the direction when it first detected it's heading. Leaving home, I drive east to pul out of my drive, so the arrow is pointing east. I make a quick turn north for a block but the arrow continues to point east. Next I make a west turn and the arrow still points north. About a mile later, I'm heading north again and the pointer is still pointing east. At this point, I turn of the electronic compass, then turn it back on, and the arrow is pointing the proper direction for the rest of the trip. The trip leaving work is almost an exact repeat of the same symptoms, except I'm heading south instead of north. Once again turning the compass off and back on resolves the problem for me. This time I tested it while the compass was still off and the pointer didn't change direction, but when I turned the compass back on the problem corrected itself. Now I will see if it does the same thing yet again tomorrow.

I had the same kind of map issue while driving home. The map pointer was pointing up, I was traveling east and the map was scrolling from the bottom of the screen. The black track line was scrolling out above the pointer. I checked the map setup and it was set to north up. This continued until I hit a map tile boundry and the screen flipped around. It was ok the rest of the way home.

No problems with WAAS either..nor the pointer.

Whats the problem with WAAS?

I haven't yet put on 3.10, still using the 3.01 beta, but the WAAS issue I've been finding is that it rarely gets a lock. My B&W Vista gets a WAAS lock and keeps it almost always. The Oregon rarely.

Well, I got the update to work.

I had to put my 400t in "Mass Storage Mode" for the update to load.

Weird becasue I always thoughgt the units had to be in "Garmin" mode to load any sort of software/firmware updates.

In any event.... I now have 3.10 on my 400t.

I tested this a little better this morning. It appears that the "Improved compass responsiveness in challenging GPS environments" changes may be the culprit.

I have my compass set to "Auto". I don't know exactly what causes it, but on some initial starts of the GPSr, the compass is enabled, and it seems to take an excessive amount of time to automatically disable it. If on the compass screen, the "Hold Level" message is displayed, and the compass heading is "locked". Eventually the compass will "auto off" and the pointer then resumes working as expected. I also verified that the "Auto on" for the compass does not hit until 90 seconds after movement stops (I did not test at slow speeds). While driving, the compass seemed to be working properly so I pulled to the side of the road and timed how long it took for the compass to turn itself back on. Next I power cycled the GPSr and within 3-5 seconds of my resuming movement (>3 mph) the compass did "Auto off" and the pointer worked as expected. Once again, it would not automatically trn the compass back on until 90 seconds after movement stopped. I know that in my initial power-on this morning the compass did not "auto off" even though I had driven >20mh for over a mile, plus >40mph for over a mile. At that point I manually turned the compass off and things resumed operations as expected. Now that I know that the first power-on after a "significant" period of power off, the compass does not appear to automatically turn off as expected...

has anyone noticed that the upper left screen sometimes will not respond and select the upper right side instead? Is there a setting that I can adjust the screen touch to be more accurate with where I am touching?

this was happening a few times on the beta as well.

Try calibrating the touch screen. Turn the Oregon off and power it back on again, holding the power button down as it initializes. After about 30 seconds you will enter a screen calibration page where you can recalibrate the touch screen.
