Simply Paul
I remember we did this a few years ago on the forum, but I think the game's big enough now to have some sort of 'recognised' awards. I propose accepting nominations for the below categories, but would love to hear other people's suggestions for awards. All apply to caches hidden since January 1st this year, or events held since then. Around this time in November I'll create shortlists of about 5 people/caches/etc in each section to be voted on. If you'd rather place a private vote, you can email me via my profile rather than post here- but please don't do both as I will be watching for any vote rigging! The deadline for votes will then be Christmas time. There may even be prizes... Suggested catagories: Best individual cache hidden (no need to say why it was special as a spoiler- especially if it's the cunning hide, but a link to it so others can read the glowing logs -very Christmassy- would help.) This could also be broken down into Earthcache, Traditional, Multi and Puzzle (and letterbox? This could be included with puzzle perhaps) if there's enough suggestions for each type to make up worthwhile shortlists to be voted on. Best series set-up (can be by more than one cacher, but should have a common theme or be interlinked caches. Best as in 'most enjoyable' rather than biggest. In the case of series 'launched' before this year, but which have become popular or expanded a lot this year, I suggest they're allowed in.) Best Event (inc. CITO, with size, effort made by setter/holder, location etc all to be taken into account- please give your reasons for the suggestion.) Best new (previously unused) location for a cache, planted this year (was there a brilliant location used for a cache which you kicked yourself for not discovering and using first?) Best cache photo. (seen a masterpiece on a cache page, either by the owner or a logger? Should be somehting a bit special, and please include a link with your nomination- shots from a webcam cache and cache-cams included.) Best TB released in 2007 (could be the item -there are some amazing TBs out there- or its mission) Person who's done the most to improve caching in the UK (and Ireland?) in 2007 - The reviewers would be a too-obvious choice perhaps, so maybe exclude them? (Sorry chaps!) The Simply Paul award for outstanding caching in the face of adversity (to recognise cachers who've gone beyond the call of duty to cache, or help others cache. You'll need to say who and why. Best not self-nominate, unless your ego can handle the possible consequences!) Wooden Spoon award for the biggest 'woops' of 2007 (and you can nominate yourself, but you have to give reasons/show evidence) The 'Popcorn award' for best forum contribution. (could be for a single classic post, or general helpfulness, humour... whatever.) I'm sure I've forgotten some good categories- feel free to suggest your own, but be sure they're wide/general enough to let a shortlist to be made in late November. For example, 'Best new cache in Bolton' is a bit too narrow! Quote Link to comment

Us 4 and Jess
Suggested catagories: Best individual cache hidden Need to think about that one Best series set-up Trails from Rails Series in Scotland, excellent series in lovely surroundings Best Event Definitely Gathering in the Glens Best new (previously unused) Another I will get back about Best cache photo. Was that one by Ryme-Intrinseca, on my calendar taken this year? What an amazing photograph, the printer certainly did not do it justice Best TB released in 2007 I liked the two old pennies a cacher set off from the dates his parents were born Person who's done the most to improve caching in the UK I've had much help from many people I would definitely not like to single anyone out for this one. The Simply Paul award for outstanding caching in the face of adversity This has to go to Wendy and Caesar, I know they have both been unwell this year and had a few health scares, but they keep on keeping on Wooden Spoon award for the biggest 'woops' of 2007 This just has to go to Jerryo if there is water or a hole he will fall in it The 'Popcorn award' for best forum contribution. +Cassie's Crusaders
I have to agree with Dakar 4x4. The best series this year has to be GC15RGW 'The Curse of the Black Cat' It's a fairly new series but the work that must have gone into the planning and execution of this puzzle cache series richly deserves recognition. Well done and thanks to 'blindmouse' for all his hard work and for the many hours of fun we had completing the series. Quote Link to comment
wheelybarrow
Best series has to be Chimney Rock Ramble - did it yesterday and it is stunning. So much thought has gone into it. Quote Link to comment
Lydford Locators
We'd like to nominate ourselves for the biggest whoops this year: Grandma Locator was feeling a bit miserable having been stuck indoors for several months caring for Grandpa who'd been suffering with a long illness. We thought it would be nice to take her out for a little bit of simple geocaching to blow away the cobwebs. However at GC10T8K The Big Brookwood Tree with a terrain of 2 there was a sudden thump - Grandma Locator had taken a tumble! Upon inspection it became apparent that she'd broken her leg!! (The bone sticking out was a bit of a giveaway) With GPS co-ords and mobile phone we thought it should be quite easy to get help, but no - apparently the ambulance crew couldn't use our co-ords. Mrs Locator had to abandon Grandma and the kids in the woods, and go off to find the nearest road to try to find where she was, wait for the ambulance and paramedic to find her and then they all processed back into the woods to find Grandma again. It took a while to try to explain what Grandma was doing inside a huge rhododendron bush, but they spotted the cache in it's hiding place and guessed we were geocachers. Extracting Grandma was a major affair and it took over 2 hours to get her out and safely off to the nearest hospital. 72 year old Grandma had a 4 hour operation to mend the 6 breaks in her right leg with pins and pegs. After spending 6 weeks in hospital she was allowed home, but she's now confined to a wheelchair and will probably not be walking well for at least another year! Whoops!! Quote Link to comment

The Potters
Got to vote for the Curse of the Black Cat (GC15RGW). This is a fantastic series. The fact that we are yet to finish it, despite hours of work, including research and trips out to look for the caches, is testament to how complex and intriguing this series is. Definitely my top vote - simply for keeping me so interested and desperate to finish it. Thanks 'Blindmouse' Quote Link to comment
Bewlers
Having just completed Chimney Rock Ramble Series (we followed Wheelybarrow around, but never caught up) you might have expected us to plump for that. However, by far the best cache series we have ever attempted is: The Curse of the Black Cat (GC15RGW) and the associated AB's Notes Pages The detail of descriptions, complexity of clues and cache locations in this series are fantastic - IMHO the amount of effort that must have gone in to setting them up deserves some form of recognition. +sonatellas
I am adding an extra one I know it is a bit late but I just have to do it. One of the best series we have been doing lately is the Alphabet Challenge out on Dartmoor. It was set up by Windrush. It is absolutely staggering how long it must of taken to put the caches out and organise it all. The challenge consists of 25 caches and a bonus. The ones we have done so far have all been in the most wonderful locations and places we have never been before. We really like this one. Thank you Windrush for all your hard work and making caching fun. From the Sonatellas Quote Link to comment

Simply Paul
See above, lol! As a lot of folks were suggesting caches placed before 2007, I decided not to make up a voting system. However, this thread does act as a list of great suggestions for landmark caches. I hope Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to make a comment or leave a recommendation. Edited for speeling. Edited January 11, 2008 by Simply Paul Quote Link to comment
