CITO 2006: photos photos photos

Recommended Posts

I invite those who have participated in 2006 CITO events to post just 1 (or maybe 2) representative photos for the community to see.

Show off your best shot!

Give us the cache name or waypoint # ... and a link to it, please. That way we can see all the rest of the photos in the galleries.

Here's some pics from our recent Cito, GCT9ZX. It was a cool, rainy day. We only had 8 adults and 6 kids present, but we gathered a lot of trash. We're actually having another Cito here in April to finish the job.

100_9481.jpg Those are our 3 girls in the pic, the gathered a bunch of trash by themselves.

Heavy Lift was the first Geocaching CITO ever held in our city and we managed a superhuman task. Our CITO received permission from every level of governement. It was a vital and extremely difficult project in a city waterway, Seven Persons Creek.

This CITO event was industrial strength and we really had some great results.

There are a lot of pictures in the logs and there will be more.

We have hauled 725kgs (3/4 ton) of trash to the dump so far and that total will go much higher. Our efforts have made a big difference.

The large beam you see in the picture "Heart of the Obstruction" is likely 200kgs (450lbs), it took all of us to lift it out of the creek.

This Heavy Lift CITO really lived up to it's name.

My first CITO event and I am the host! And it was in concert with four other state-wide CITO events in NC. We had twenty attendees which was awesome -- given that there was a thunderstorm the previous night and it was still raining this morning! We hit two spots on the Gorges State Park -- NC's newest state park. They have very tough restrictions on caches so we are trying to build up some goodwill. How much fun can you have while picking up trash? Tons!!

We had a GREAT turnout for our C.I.T.O. event! We had 19 teams show up! Not only did we get a LOT OF TRASH hauled out, but we had several people help pull invasive garlic mustard as well! Here are a few pics!

We pulled all kinds of junk...including the entire list of things you would need to build a bathroom...and kitchen!

Anchorage, Alaska's Kincaid Park CITO 2006 Event. A portion of the more than forty folks who attended are shown; we'd already dumped a bunch of trash into the dumpsters when we remembered we needed an event photo! Delighted to have the only sunny break in the weather this weekend for our event - even as this photo was taken it was snowing along the east side of the city against the mountains.

We did the Cryptik clean up (Reading CITO event) - GCTFC0 - yesterday. A fantastic effort by all involved (and probably one of the best attended events in the UK). Several people commented that we probably found enough bits to make an entire car.

Hinds Lane Conservation property CITO in Pelham, NH:

My first CITO event! What a satisfying way to spend Earth Day!

It was shocking, however, to see the amount of trash, rusted metal, discarded tires and abandoned cars that have been recklessly dumped here, along these beautiful trails, over the years.

Good for the Town of Pelham for preserving Hinds Lane Conservation Property for recreational use. And thanks to the Land Stewardship Committee for organizing this event. It will take many more CITO events, volunteers and some heavy equipment to remove all of the trash here, but I think we made some great progress today!

according to EVERY weather report for the past week, it was supposed to pour yesterday. Mother Nature was kind enough to hold that back until AFTER the event

we had 14 cachers show up (adults + kids) and had a great time doing trail maintenance and picking up what trash we could find. diapers, old grills, old skateboards, tires, LOTS of beer cans and of course, the cement blocks I always seem to find!

Thanks to all who showed up and helped!

We had a great time at our CITO event here in North Texas on Earth Day. Between the Boy Scouts and the cachers, about 60 people showed up to clean up Doe Branch Park on Lewisville Lake. We had great weather, tasty hot dogs, games, drawings, and plenty of caches. The park rangers on site from the US Army Corps of Engineers said it's the cleanest they have ever seen the park. Outstanding job, Texas cachers! ;)

This is a picture from the 2nd Prague CITO event in Czech republic. We were looking to put CITO coin to the nice girl' s belly button to take a picture, but geogirls did not want to do that, so we found a volunteer, our great geocolleague Bentley 07, who offered his beer belly button - Czech Signal the Frog <_<

Enjoy:

We had a small turnout but had a lot of fun. Everyone came out to my house for a cookout afterwards. Some had to go home and take a shower. This CITO thing can get real nasty. The group has decided to adopt our own street in Jackson. Will be doing a CITO on that street in the future.

The Calabasitas clean up was a huge success! Without the involvement of everyone who attended, supported, sponsored, and promoted this event it never would have happened. I cant say thanks enough to everyone that helped out!

The sponsors and supporters really stepped up for this event and

helped make it happen.

-Stella with the City of Albuquerque for all of the support, advice,

donation of the dumpsters and the wrecker service.

-Anthony for amazing help with the buried cars.

-Amy with Blue Moon Custom Gardening for the truck, equipment,

supplies and people.

-Stuart and Connie with Faith Engineering for the truck, tow chains,

ice chests, hi-lift jack, table,

-Darren with Desert Rat for the very generous gift certificate and tow straps.

-Alvin with Sunflower Market for the cases of water and delicious fruit.

-TVI west side campus for use of their facilities.

-Dominic for helping out with his personal 4x4 truck.

-Lisa with Songbird Catering for the organization and prizes for the kids games.

-Doug with Wild Oats for the water and snacks.

-La Montanita Coop for the energy drinks and snacks.

-Ian with REI for the water bottles.

-Geocaching.com for the CITO event advertising.

-Julianna for helping with ideas, logistics and sponsors

-Channel four news for coming out and doing the spot on the effort.

-Amy, Mike, Mark, Anthony, Lane, Dave, John, Carla, Peter, Jennifer, Stacey

Eric, Pam, Michael (all three of you!), Rob, Joe, Lynne, Vince,

Connie, Stuart, Dominic, Eric, Julianna, Raven, Lisa, Lucas, Faith,

Bruce, and anyone else that managed to slip by me without saying hi or

signing in! Thank you so much!

Hope everyone got to see the news on Saturday evening as Channel 4 did

a nice job of putting out a little story on the event.

We managed to fill up two huge dumpsters (we estimated at 50-60 cubic

yards) with trash of all kinds, remove 3 (and a 1/4 of one) old rusty

vehicles from the arroyo and get a dozen or so old appliances taken

away. The area surrounding Universe and Calabasitas looks amazingly

improved.

I hope next time to have more geocachers out there so keep an eye open on here and I'll see where I'd like to go next.

Great job everyone and thank you!

Chris Faith

We held our CITO picnic 2006 at Waialae Beach Park on Oahu. Silligirl & Jrr put together a fun, preductive event. Lots of Kama'aina (locals) and visitors from the mainland as well. Met some great folks and "talk story" about our latest adventures out around the island. Everyone pitched in for the CITO and collected some serious junk strewn on the nearby beach and park. We all left happy to meet up and look forward to more events like this.

I found this topic late, and was going to list the CITO event that I posted and organized. I was scrolling down looking at the others, and to my surprise, I found my event was already posted! :) It seems the local chapter head SAXman beat me to it by a loooong time. Thanks for posting the event SAXman!

I think the best part of this CITO was the couple of people driving or riding by that yelled "Thank you" when they spotted our full trash bags.

Our event was just held two weeks ago, rather than on the 'official' date, but we had 15 folks pitch in (two who weren't even cachers!), and cleaned up a day use area fishing pond. In addition to removing much trash, we were actually able to salvage several picnic tables and repair them for continued use. More photos on the event page.

We had a "Small-scale See-toe" here in Northeastern Pennsylvania on July 29. The area chosen is called the Seven Tubs Recreation area, and has some spectacular tubs and falls carved by glacial action a LOOOONG time ago! <_< About 25 people showed up, and we concentrated on the litter left behind by those who like to swim here in the hot weather. Here is a link to the cache page: GCWV19.

Here is a picture of the group with a portion of the trash collected:
