  1. Although I have not created many bookmarks, I certainly use and enjoy others. I appreciate bookmarks that have been created for "series" and "challenges" particularly when I'm working my way through one. And I find bookmarks for things like oldest caches in the state, winter-friendly caches and solve-at-your-desk puzzle caches both interesting and useful. Then there are the just-for-fun bookmarks like "When I Win the Lotto..." and one of my favorites... Hoppingcrow's "Shiny Things!" I can definitely see the need for increasing the number of bookmarks per cacher!
  2. I'll offer this up as a spoiler an example of what to look for. There is a waterproof match container, wrapped with cammo tape, hanging *somewhere* is this pine tree... Can you see it? Maybe look a little closer... The "AHA" moment! Sometimes they do just pop out at you after looking for awhile! Good luck with your search!
  3. I got to sell a few ASP Geobash geocoins while helping out in the ASP Geobash "store" (which was a converted cabin) at the event last weekend. Super fun working with ATMouse!!! And what a cool coin! I love that the moon glows in the dark!
  4. What an excellent way to spread the word about diabetes. Thanks to Jeremy and everyone at Groundspeak for initiating this noble cause! Mine is bound for Wenshang, China !
  5. Hurd Peak Discovers Pluto ... a little too late...
  6. I usually carry extra zip lock bags, extra pens/pencils, a small log book in case I find the log book full, and paper towels to dry off soggy contents. I had someone voluntarily repair one of my caches (the contents got wet because the cover was not sealed tight by the previous finder... so they dried things off and replaced a log book that got wet!). I really appreciated it because I was busy at work that week and didn't have time to run out and do the proper cache maintenance. I was grateful for the favor, so I carry my "repair kit" and hope that some day I can return the favor!
  7. Know what...I'm most puzzled by little blue guys that play sax. Do they REALLY make saxaphones so small? I don't know who told you Smurfs were small, but let's just say you've been misinformed 3 apples high...right? Is that with or without kilt? With a towel Is that the towel that's scheduled for Maine in 2008?
  8. Munin! (How ya doin? ) When did you release your Brussel Sprout cache?!? I didn't see it pop up today!
  9. Historic caches are my favorite to find and also to hide! I have a cache placed in a historic district near the foundation of an old mill, a cache that celebrates a famous marine painter from the early 1800's and his home (he also happens to be an ancestor of my mine...) and a cache that is placed near the ruins of a mansion in the woods, that not many people around know was ever there. I thoroughy researched these historic spots and included that information on the cache pages. I get so many nice emails from cachers who not only enjoyed the hike but also the history lesson! It really makes it worth the effort! My favorite historic cache that I have found is Adams, Hancock & the Salmon. It has a very unusual and interesting history lesson! I will most definitely go to your historic caches if I am ever nearby!
  10. Here's my scratch ticket cache: Scratch My Bach And another one created by my friend, Bubba Riley (I got the idea for my cache from this one): Scratch That Cache Scratch ticket caches are FUN! And BTW, I LOVE you dog! What a great face!
  11. What about that warm fuzzy feeling you get from supporting a hobby/sport/activity you love? You hit the nail right on the head, GeoBain! That's the main reason I am happy to be a premium member. I access and use the information on GC.com multiple times per day and I am happy to support the software maintenance, upgrades, and all the good work that Groundspeak does to make the website so easy to use and this geocaching hobby/sport/activity so much fun!
  12. Congrats on your 4th Cacheversary, Lep and Little Lep! You two make a great team!
  13. Since you are "NOT looking for requests yet...", I will NOT post a request for your coin yet! And I can't help you with your question about the minting and selling costs, as I don't have any experience minting my own coin... yet... The only thing I can say is that your coin design is unique and I believe the finished product will be highly collectible, especially to someone who has been lucky enough to find one of your very cool "companion" signature items! Now THAT will be a very nice set! Good luck!
  14. This sign doesn't offend me (I eat lobsters here often!) and neither would your TB idea. Actually, I hope I find it in a cache when it arrives in this area. I would be happy to eat lobster dinner if it would help a cute little travel bug meet its goal.
  15. I saw Margot Kelley's book at a geo-meet. It is now on my "Wish List"! Beautiful photography and well written.
  16. JWDATAMA Just What Do All These Acronyms Mean, Anyway? By Tee King, aka Pyewacket From Today's Cacher
  17. I'm interested! The Antique Copper looks GREAT! I would definitely buy a set.
  18. Here's the manual for your 2000 XL. The instructions for changing the Logitude/Latitude format are on on page 14 of this manyall. You can change the Longitude/Latitude format by going into your Setup Menu, select LON/LAT Format, and chose DEG/MIN/MMM. Hope this helps!
  19. Hi Joe - you are correct about the definition of the word confluence. From the Degree Confluence Project website : "A confluence is defined as a flowing together; a meeting place (often of rivers)." But in GPS navigational terms, confluence points are the locations where Latitude and Longitude lines cross, such as 43°00'00"N 72°00'00"W. (It's the minutes and seconds that are all zeros.) Hope this helps!
  20. Thanks for the update! Waiting patiently...
  21. Hinds Lane Conservation property CITO in Pelham, NH: My first CITO event! What a satisfying way to spend Earth Day! It was shocking, however, to see the amount of trash, rusted metal, discarded tires and abandoned cars that have been recklessly dumped here, along these beautiful trails, over the years. Good for the Town of Pelham for preserving Hinds Lane Conservation Property for recreational use. And thanks to the Land Stewardship Committee for organizing this event. It will take many more CITO events, volunteers and some heavy equipment to remove all of the trash here, but I think we made some great progress today! Hard-working CITO'ers! More hard-working CITO'ers! Should be a BIG SIGN - POSTED NO TRASH! As Waldo's Revenge said in his CITO log, "Who knew cleaning up trash could be so much fun!" And my favorite photo of the day, posted by TomandSiegi:
  22. I just activated my Anthus Decoder Geocoins on GC.com! Even though there is no specific link for the Anthus Decoder Geocoin, I clicked on the Activation Code link anyway, entered my tracking number and email address and got activation codes that worked on GC.com!
  23. I got my Anthus coins this morning, too! They are very nicely made and look great! Thanks. Now, I have to plan a road trip to find Anthus caches with it? (And I will wait patiently for the activation codes to be activated...)
  24. Wow, that makes my complaint about missing cache swag suddenly seem rather insignificant... but also reinforces my negative feelings about paintball. So sorry that happened to you.
  25. For additional reference, here are some BEFORE and AFTER photos: The Trail - BEFORE The Trail - AFTER The approach to the cache - BEFORE The stone wall (view from cache site looking out) - BEFORE The stone wall (same spot but view looking in towards the cache site)- AFTER Old Cedar (and the hiding spot - SPOILER) - BEFORE Old Cedar with branches torn off (later used as firewood) - AFTER <--- My empty cache container and the trashed cache site Celebrating milestones (#300, #1,500, #1,500 and #1,000!) two weeks before the cache was destroyed.
