  1. I'm tempted... I'll keep my eyes on this thread and decide after the details are set. Or maybe my knee will decide for me.
  2. Thanks for sharing! I've seen some similar ideas on my local kayak forums, but this one is even easier. I have to admit, my favorite part is the CJ-7 in the background of the one picture!
  3. Also saw this guy: While hiking around in the area of GC9165. No idea what kind of reptile he is, but the orange striping was interesting.
  4. Are you sure that it's not a Bald Eagle? Kinda looks like one in the pic, but I've been wrong before. Yeah, the pic is confusing because of the angle, but I'm 90% sure.... Could be a juvenile Bald Eagle, I suppose. I based my call on the ID on the dark streak through the eye, and the striped underside when (s)he took off. The size also seemed to be right for an osprey (~24") as opposed to a BE (36"). Of course, I'm no expert! In any case, it was very cool to see
  5. This past weekend on a visit to the Spokane area we were caching in Riverside State Park. On our way to find GC6B5A we walked out on a small bluff overlooking the river and were surprised to see an osprey sitting in a tree no more than 50 ft away. He watched me snap a few pics, then calmly leapt into the air and glided upriver. There were several nests visible in the area, and we had spotted another bird sitting in one further downriver as well as several soaring over the other side of the valley. Watching one from such a close distance you really get a sense of the power of these birds.
  6. Hi, bitbrain! Yeah, TB 's are funny - sometimes they get stuck in someone's pack and languish there for a looooong time. Then that someone finds it and guiltily re-releases it a CITO event..... I'm glad to be the recipient of that re-release! I have a TB languishing in Northern Indiana that I'm fairly certain will never see the light of day again. C'est la vie! Let me know if you have any special instructions now that the dreads have been resurrected!
  7. Does Groundspeak ever involve the media in getting the word out about CITO activities on a national/international scale? It is really a great way to get some positive exposure for the game. I know that when I organized a CITO I tried to get the managing entity (A County park administrator) to at least submit something to the local paper. In Northeast PA we were dealing with some zealous State Game Land Managers and I was hoping some positive exposure in the local news might help sway their views. Just a thought to add to the discussion!
  8. Maybe he has a reptile dysfunction..... That is hilarious! I know someone who works for Pfizer, maybe he could send Phibian some samples to help out with that problem.....
  9. DANG! What about red? Heck, I'd even take blue.... not that weird green, though. Sorry, server issues at work - double/triple post is not my fault!

  12. Very cool design.... plus, since Trimble gave away some phones last year, that must mean Jeep is giving away several Unlimited Wrangler Rubicons, right?
  13. Thanks, Trucker Lee! I used to know a bunch of people with Jeeps and winches, and I thought of this same mode of attack. It definitely would have required traffic control, though, as the access point for the vehicles would have been along Route 115, which is quite busy - with high speed and sharp turns. Not a safe combo for people working along the shoulder! Maybe some other cachers in the area will take this idea and run with it - Seven Tubs is too nice an area to be a tire dump!
  14. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for the next time. Unfortunately (for the cleanup idea anyway), I have moved out of the area and will not be able to organize anything for that particular site in Seven Tubs. Who knows what I will find here in my new area, so keep those ideas comin'!
  15. "I'd personally love a "Texas orange" color. Some call it burnt orange. Nice visibility for both PR and safety purposes, but not as ugly as the "safety orange" you see in construction sites." I like the burnt orange, too. Plus, I wore that color as a guide for Camp Jeep in 2005 and it was not too hot in the late Summer sun in the Poconos of NEPA and was a good background for the score of ticks I found over the weekend crawling on me. Plus, it is visible without being day-glo. Just my $0.02. White t-shirts might as well be wear and dispose, IMHO.

So, as I sit here listening to the wind-driven rain pelting the side of the house, I am wondering about the usefulness of having this get together tomorrow. I realize that the whole point is that we would like to practice fire-making and talk about survival strategies so that if we find ourselves stranded in adverse conditions at some point we will be better prepared, but I also know that it would be beneficial for me, at least, to get some practice in under conditions where a newbie like myself has a decent chance of actually getting something to burn. Any other thoughts or opinions?
  17. Oh, boy, what are you up to now, O'BG? I am very intrigued, and I have a kayak now if that will help with subterranean seafairing.... might take me a while to get there, though!
  18. Me either.... hmmm... I use Gmail, which is usually pretty robust.... ((((((((((What if one of my TB's has moved and I've missed it?! Oh, sorry, had a TT moment there, nevermind....))))))))))
  19. We had a "Small-scale See-toe" here in Northeastern Pennsylvania on July 29. The area chosen is called the Seven Tubs Recreation area, and has some spectacular tubs and falls carved by glacial action a LOOOONG time ago! About 25 people showed up, and we concentrated on the litter left behind by those who like to swim here in the hot weather. Here is a link to the cache page: GCWV19. Here is a picture of the group with a portion of the trash collected: Here is a pic of Signal with a small scale! : This lucky cacher used his mental prowess to win a Green Jeep TB in the raffle!: More pics and details of the event are, of course, available on the cache page! If you are interested in the history of the Seven Tubs area, try this.
  20. This one is ok! I am one block away from the mandatory evacuation area in West Pittston! The 9 pm curfew really put a cramp in my planned night of running around the neighborhood planting micros after midnight!

    Cito Near W-b

Hi Team WBFD! Sorry, shooting for a morning event to avoid muggles coming to swim for the day, if possible. I'll let you know if that changes. I hope you're not too busy dealing with the flood! Spoon!
  22. Well, the area was closed yesterday due to the flooding, and most likely still is! There very well may be more natural debris thanks to the excessive run-off over the past week. The human-generated litter may have been swept downstream, but I'm sure we will find it (and new deposits, unfortunately) on July 29. This area sees a lot of activity from people coming from near and far to swim during the hot Summer months - not all use the supplied barrels and dumpster for their picnic leftovers.
