+SD Rowdies
Maybe they graded that loop since Harmon was there last..... Shoot, looks graded and paved now. Looks like the really big rocks have been removed. Next thang will be a McDonalds. Where's the shot of the locked road gate and it's lock mechanism? As you mentioned before, Harmon, that gate is a fortress and with cliffs on both sides to boot! However, if you slide the gate latch as far out as it will go the lock is in range of a special opening device...But we opted to turn out and skip the last 4 caches on the other side of that gate. I still wonder why the heck the BLM locks the gate in the first place? One might wonder why that road gate was put up since you can drive up to either side of it. It sure is a major gate. Of course they put it in to stop illegal traffic trying to bypass the INS checkpoints down on Old 80 and I-8. Must be an easy way to drive around the lower gate down on Buckman Springs Road but I've not explored that issue. Illegals just don't get it, use a horse for cryin' out loud. Quote Link to comment

+SD Rowdies
That was the one rocky stretch that Harmon was talking about. You need to get as far right as you can for that part (unless you have a Jeep or something like that). Anyhow, once we got past that part, the rest of the road was easy. I think Ahimsa took off before we headed down to the SE loop because Harmon had him worried, but it wasn't that bad at all. Maybe they graded that loop since Harmon was there last..... I am wondering about the theory that on the other side of the gate only street legal vehicles can go but the non street legels were crossing over so the gate was installed in a big way Quote Link to comment

Remind me of the name of that terrific Italian restaurant one block above the tourist strip. Must get back up there soon. Edited December 1, 2005 by SD Rowdies Quote Link to comment

Remind me of the name of that terrific Italian restaurant one block above the tourist strip. Must get back up there soon. You must mean Sabettas. Good food, but we always end up at Great American Fish Co. for their calamare. Speaking of kayaking, SD's Dr. Boggis was just up here for Thanksgiving weekend and snagged the strand cache that's only reachable via kayak (that or a very long, sandy walk up the strand from Los Osos). Glad to have fellow Californian's up here sharing our caches... amazing how similar the countryside looks in your area to ours. Quote Link to comment

+Cornerstone4
Yep, it's Morro Bay. I spent an untold number of days sitting on the pier fishing there. The foghorn from the lighthouse sounding on cue and the rock looming over you... If I didn't live in such a great area I would really be homesick now! Grew up and graduated in Paso Robles.
