Cache Series's

Recommended Posts

I am not trying to draw attention to caches by doing this topic, just curious!

I have run a search for caches with "series" in their name and of course got over 40 pages of results all over the globe.

How many series caches are there in this country?

Maybe a competion could be run for the first team to complete them all????

By series i mean a load of caches which by visiting one you gain half or even a quarter of a co-ord so that you can gain a higher level!

I have found so far via searches:

Alchemy series

Zodiac Series

Road to the Wrekin series

Quest of the ring (a multi but has to be included)

Spectrum series

Chess pieces

anybody want to add some more?

How do you define 'series' ?

I have three sets of 'series' of normal caches, that you collect clues in order to find the final 'multi-cache' ?

Although I have not put in the title 'series' I assume this also is the same as what you are refering to....

There must be lots of other 'series' caches in the country like this.... I can think of many just around here.

like i said at the top,

i would define a series as where you go to one or two caches and they give you the co-ordinates for another cache and so one.

One more to add is the Nawtwitchers Cornwall Conundrum

Do you mean separately loggable stages ? or stages in a multi ? or both ?

i am going to use a cache as an example as people still seem to be confused.

This is what know as a series cache:

GCHJMN

or

GCKJ9T

clear now?

My Road to the Wrekin series wouldn't really count as you can do them in any order and whenever you like (i.e. they can all exist on their own).

Alchemy Quest definately is though ;)

Are you suggesting that some people who owns a quest/series puts co-ordinates into their last cache to lead to one "mother of all caches"?

Write and Mane have the CC series of caches.

The series is currently 32 caches but might reach 50 before the final cache is set.

This is no small effort as the majority of caches are probably 2.5 D+T or above and throughly deserve that rating!! Not only that but they are all well thought out with no shortcuts.

It is a great series and quite a job trying to keep up with them all ;)

Could this be the largest series in the U.K.?

With regard to 'what constitutes a series' aspect, how about this for an example (does this fall within the Geocacher's definition)

GCP4NQ

Poker hand series - prile of threes: This cache can be done and logged at any time.

GCP4NZ

Poker hand series - a pair: as above

GCP4P2

Poker hand series - full house: This cache cannot be done unless you have done the previous two caches (in any order) as they contain the co-ords.

I guess what makes a series is a bit of a grey area. To illustrate this with a cache or two of my own (please, no one do them *just* because I've used them here to make my point clearly. There. That should be ok.)

Puerile Photo Caches - five themed offset caches without a 'bonus' stage - A series of caches perhaps, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.

Chess Themed caches - Find nine (or actually pick up numbers from all 9 while doing them. No need to locate the actual boxes if you don't want to) multi-caches to locate a map to use to find the 10th multi-stage cache. A series with a bonus puzzle stage.

Punters' series in Oxford, set with Dan. - A true series of three micros on the river, reached only by boat, leading to a final bonus.

Silverstone Circuit caches (which might get visied at the weekend, maybe? B) ) three caches on a theme, but more of a chain of caches than a series.

Canalmania series - Five caches along the canal, where the co-ords are given on the cache page, but encrypted clues can be found in each cache to help you find the next. Again, a series of sorts, but no bonus stage.

Ridgeway Run series - Many (lost count!) caches as a power trail. May become a series with an end bonus (at Avebury and Ivinghoe Beacon?) in future, but for now it's just a set of individual caches which can be logged individually. Still a 'series of traditional caches' though.

The Wicker Man series - Three caches at film locations in Scotland. No bonus though (unless you're a fan of the movie!)

SP

P.S. The Watcher Gives by Bekandian is a fine example of a three-part series with a fourth bonus box B)

I see the top one in Dometc's list is my S'history Nr8.

When it started S'history 1 to 7 was a series. The co-ords given for all the caches but 1 were only "closish". In each cache were the co-ords for the next one, and also a code nr for nr 8, making you go round the series in order. There was also an "extra" challenge in nr 8.

However with re-development of the area and with changes in the virt clues all but 4, 3 and 8 are gone. Once the racecourse is rebuilt and all the local hedges and ditches stop being re-vamped I might set it up again as it was.......
