+avroair Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls... it's that time again! To bid for the city for Geocoinfest 2011. If you have never attended a Geocoinfest, then there's one in the Twin Cities you can try it out! If you would like to host Geocoinfest 2011 then you have come to the right thread! Historical Perspective: A thread about doing a geocoin mega event was started in 2006. The idea was to bring together all the coin people who we know and love in these forums under one roof! The first Geocoinfest 2007 was held in Temecula Southern California: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt= After a bidding process, http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=176139&hl= The event moved east in 2008 to the steel city of Pittsburgh: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...38-3f605384cce4 In 2009 the event traveled West again to Salt Lake City: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...39-45c2264c2c54 In 2010 the event will be held in the twin cities of Minneapolis \ St Paul: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f6-6708a67c35b7 It is now time to submit bids (bribes) for GeoCoinFest 2011, this is not a nominating or voting thread, this is for hosting the event, if you wanna host it, put together a team, a plan and a vision and then a bid. Pittsburgh put together a video showing off all the features of Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City did an interactive presentation... bids don't have to be that fancy, but they do have to be in by August 31st. Some things people need to think about: * these things take time to pull together, probably at least 7 months * the geocoinfest would be held in the fall, probably on or near to Labor Day weekend * city needs to have an airport that is generally accessible * city needs to have nearby attractions rather than just the coins * there needs to be ample hotels in the area, 3 coinfests have been hosted at hotels, but that isn't a requirement. * we are expecting over 700 this time around (MEGA) so the actual site needs to hold at least that many * there needs to be 2 (preferably 3) local coin coordinators, we need coin people, not just general cachers * need to work within a team environment And the toughest requirement of all: * you gonna have to work with me (avroair) so if ya can't stand my guts then suck it up and deal with it. Previous organizers of Geocoinfests will receive each bid and vote on their merits under 10 criteria. Then revote for the two finalists. This will be done September 6 th. The winning bid will be annouced at Geocoinfest 2010 Twin Cities. I have a cheat sheet if people are interested. Quote

+longtomsilver Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I just checked for 2011 our vacation calender and we do have summer vacation until 6th of sept. Labor Day weekend is 4th till 6th Sept. I will check with my folks here in Cologne if we should apply for the Geocoinfest 2011 in Cologne. I am sure that the german coin producers will attend. I think first of all you should discuss the subject: Geocoinfest in the US or Europe. Lets see how this thread will go on. Nevertheless I would try to attend the next years one. Quote

I think first of all you should discuss the subject: Geocoinfest in the US or Europe. I would definitely second that Cologne in Europe could be a Geocoinfest hosting City/Town. And I would definitely co-host that event. =) So if longtomsilver is in - and I know him for beeing in - we and some other guys I know for beeing crazy enough in doing so - could rock the show. I am asure that a minimum of 3 geocoin producers would come to a GEOCOINFEST in germany [like: http://www.geocoinshop.de/ , http://www.cachezone.de , http://www.mygeocoin.de]. And I think we could convice some dutch [ http://www.k2coins.nl , http://www.geocachingshop.nl ], british [ http://www.ukgeocachers.co.uk ], swedish [ http://www.polardesign.se ] and the other german coinproducers [ http://www.geocachingshop.de , http://www.wbcoins.de , http://www.frabert.de ] as well. Cologne has an airport, many hotels, a nice Cathedral [height: 142 meters] and a Moun10Bike virtual cache as well! =) [ http://coord.info/GC5B4A ] Apart from many, many caches to visit. So let's start the discussion... Kind regards, EntropyCoM * The home of about 1.600 geocoins ... erm, my collection * Quote

+wolfslady Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I'd love to see it in Florida. It's my parents 50th Anniversary next year and they are planning a big party a couple of weeks before that so we could likely extend our trip to attend. I think Orlando is a great idea because of all it offers to families if they want to extend their vacation. I'd love to roll a Disney trip in if I can make it. I was thinking Houston would be perfect, but they are already hosting the Texas Challange in 2011, so I don't think it's something they want to take on in the same year. It would be nice to see a Mega Event come southeast a bit. Quote

+PLnauta Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) If you are interested in hosting the event then pull together a team of 3-5 people and make a pitch. Finally, after so many requests the Geocoinfest comes to Europe. In order to have the greatest number of attendees i supose that Germany would be the best choice of all. But if you're looking for sunny places, warmer climate and nice people them Mark, Portugal's the best choice I'm in. I'll work on a team to present an bid to host the even in LISBON / PORTUGAL. I'm allready preparing the 2nd Geocoin Festival and it will be superb to end up with such organization. Should we have some guidelines on what is needed to present. Send me the cheet sheet please. At least one of the requirements it's allready met - I'm a geocoin person Paulo aka PLnauta Edited June 28, 2010 by PLnauta Quote

The team for G.E.O.C.O.I.N.F.E.S.T 2011 EUROPE - Portugal is completed... The place chosen you can see it here: http://www.vilagale.pt/pages/hoteis/index.php?lang=2 In the center of Lisbon, near some great Monuments, Geocaches and a great Wherigo ;o) We have the support of Garmin Portugal. And we can have some coin minter / seller in Portugal ;o) Please send us the cheet sheet please Quote

CacheAddict.com Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I like the idea of Europe. Just checked flights and price seems reasonable. It would be $600 or so this October so hopefully next year it would be similar. I am looking for a reason to travel that direction. Mike Quote

+Dale n Barb Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Orlando is centrally located and very easy to get to from the North. Most of the theme parks are located in Central Florida as well as the Space Coast Geocachers who would be leading the charge to host this. Quote
