  1. I was reading all the replies to this topic and didn't relize how many cachers do not log temp. caches. I am from NE Ohio. We consider it a normal practice in our area that it's ok to log temp. caches. There are some cachers who do not log temps and that's ok. It's not a big deal. Everyone plays the game their own way. Here is the last event my wife and I attended where we logged over 70 temps. Six More Weeks of Winter
  2. I sign all of my finds except for those tiny microcaches. I used to spend more time trying to stuff a little paper back into it that thing than anything else. When I find those I dont bother opening them up. That is the only exception for me. If I see it then I move on. Everything else gets signed.
  3. Thank you for the link to that tutorial. I have read through it a few times. It has a lot of useful information. I'm still unclear on how to move any players from zone to zone. I have three zones built in but not sure how to use the "events" tab and how it related to moving people from zone to zone. I'm also struggling with the actions section as well. I contacted the software developer and was refered to the geocaching community for further assistance.
  4. I have been searching for a couple of days and cannot find an English version of the online tutorials. This would be cool software to use but if I don't know how to use it for all the tools it has it will sit on my desk top. If anyone has any online sources to a manual please let me know. I have been trying to get a Wherigo done in my area for six months with no luck. Thanks.
  5. Is there an online tutorial available in english. I like watching the youtube videos and have learned some things. I'm new at making Wherigo players and I'm having a hard time from moving people from zone A to zone B then to zone C, ect, ect. I'm just trying to make a basic one with no sounds. I just want players to enter a zone see a picture and read about the historical site they have visited then direct them to the next zone. Once the tour is done I want to direct them to the final which is thhe actual cache.
  6. I would be interested to see their polices on placing caches. Does anyone know when the site will go live ?? I have been poking around and a couple of posts on the net indicate January 1st is when they will be up and running. I have not see a press release from Garmin though about it.
  7. How about Cleveland, Ohio. The home of rock and roll !!! We have Hopkins Airport, The Berea Fairgrounds will house 1000+ people, we have a ton of hotels and attractions. We have The Rock & Roll hall of fame, Cleveland Browns football, Cleveland Indians baseball, Great park systems, tons of caches, lake erie.
  8. I have been approached by a fellow cacher about a historical tree that is over 350 years old and has some historical meaning as well. Is there any way an Earthcache could be established around a historical tree in nature ?? I also have a similar tree that is located in front of a church that has a historical plaque in front of it and for the longest time I have thought of ways to turn it into an Earthcache. Any ideas ??
  9. I think RedJada has done a great job in promoting CITO events. We at Geochums never had a falling out with RedJada. It all started with his/her post on our local site. I didn't want a perception that geocachers in NE Ohio don't care about CITO events when in fact we do care. I was not advertising the group. As you know there are two sides to every story. I was just presenting the other side.
  10. I happen to be one of those local cachers in NE Ohio that your referring to. Please do not be upset if people do not show up for your event. There are many other options in Ohio around the same time of your CITO events. I noticed one was planned during the weekend of the 10th anniversary of geocaching. Don't put the cachers down in NE Ohio for not showing up at your CITO events. There is no justification to do so. People may have other things going on in their lives and may have commited to other places. See the forums on Geochums http://www.geochums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4800
  11. My wife and I are considering upgrading to a Droid but Verizon wants $29.00 per line added on to our bill for the data plan. I don't feel like paying $60.00 a month extra for something I could do with my gps anyway. We take our gps everywhere and if we need to do paperless caching I could always load up caches on my cell phone from the website and input the data right into my gps. Unless the data plan price is reduced we may have to sit on the sideline for a Droid. I have talked to people that cache with their phone and even went out on a cache run with someone carrying an Iphone. The Iphone always had that person 40-50 feet off from GZ. That is not very reliable. If you are to look at a Droid phone I would suggest the ERIS by HTC. The DROID by Motorola is nice but I like a virtual keyboad for txt messages. The other thing I read up on was the batter life is not great on those phone either. See the reviews on Verizon.
  12. I don't see what the big deal is....Is it really that important of a location to you where you absolutly have to place a cache in that exact spot ?? I would suspect the answer to be "no". Who cares there is other places to place your cache. I agree with the others. Pay the $30.00 and support the community. I joined in 2007 and have been supporting it ever since.
  13. I would pick up the travel bug and drop it in another cache but I would never put it in my computer. Too much risk involved. The ony travel bug I never picked up was human ashes in a small container and the bug said the person always loved to travel but I didnt feel comfortable with that one. I could just imagine if I brought that to an event and traded it with someone. That woud open some eyes.
  14. Let me know when these are available. I would like to buy a few of them when available.
  15. As a matter of fact I made a copy of 3 more coins today. They are my Earthcache Master coins. They will be released as soon as the snow melts and I head out caching again....I might even make a cache dedicated to copied geocoins. I'll call it "The Proxy Cache" Only copies of geocoins can reside in this TB Hotel.
  16. I am one of those cachers who bought $70.00 in coins when I first started. I activated them and placed them in travel bug hotels and other large caches and they got stolen right away. No miles were ever put on them. It was a major disapointment to me to think that people would take the coin and keep it in their private collection. I'm still waiting to see if anybody discovers them so I could track them down. I made copies of my new coins that I made recently. They are high quality copies as well. Nobody should have a problem moving these around because the travel bug is a metal tag. My copies are hard laminate thick as drivers licence to they could last. I would not make a note on the cahce page saying they are a "proxy" or "copy" because no matter if it's a metal tag, coin, or laminate it's still a trackable and needs moving along. If cachers would stop taking coins for their personal collections then I would be open to sneding out the real deal more often.
  17. Does anyone know where I could buy a set of these coins ?? I have been looking for a little while. Thanks.
  18. My wife Ariana20 and I go out caching and if we get a FTF then we both count it becuase we were both on the same cache run. I see no problem with logging duel FTF's if you in the same group.
  19. I agree just forward the e-mails to the current one your at. I'm not sure why you would change your e-mail address everytime you move. I have an MSN e-mail address and Yahoo! e-mail address. I could access it anywhere in the world. I have moved 5 times since 1992 and still had the same e-mail address.
  20. I sent him an e-mail asking what he gets out of cheating. I also requested he delete his fake finds. I also told him to address the issue in the forums as well.
  21. I had fun doing the Earthcache on Blue Hen Falls. I get a lot of great comments about that one. I have another one in the works within the park. Hopefully I'll get it released next month.
  22. I just ordered the set. This will be a nice addition to my collection.
