  1. Our local geocaching group is hosting a CITO but we are also going to promote geocaching at an earthday event at a local greenway. While promoting geocaching from an environmental standpoint, I think it would be great if I could provide statistics on the 2012 events. Is there any information on the 2012 events such as how many events? how many states/countries had events? how many people posted attended logs on those events? Thanks! Craig
  2. I tried that but it still opens links in the browser instead of the app. Craig
  3. I have an iPhone 4s with iOS6. I am also using the latest version of the geocaching.com app. When I receive an email notification of a new cache, I click the link and it launches in Safari. At first I was asked if I wanted to open the link in a browser of the app. I accidentally clicked the browser. Is there a way to change this so that links open in the app and not the browser? I have tried to search here and with google but haven't found an answer. Thanks! Craig
  4. I would strongly suggest you post this question on the forums at Upstate SC Geocaching Assoc.. They can give you the best in that area that will make for a very memorable milestone. Craig C&S 143

  6. I had my notification distance set to 20 miles. I increased it to get a wider area so hopefully something new would get published and I would get a notification. And I did. I got a few notifications of new caches published last night. Hopefully it was a one time glitch. I did have a 4th person tell me they did not get the new cache notification on Saturday but if it is working now, that is fine. Thanks Jon and all the lackeys! Craig
  7. I took a closer look at my email and found a few event notifications from Feb 5 that came through. I also received an owner log notification for one of my caches on Feb 4. The cache I did not get notified about was published on Feb 4. Hopefully it was a one time thing. Craig
  8. I ran a PQ for my home area and that appears to be the only cache published in the last few days. I will keep checked and let you know if I find any other information. Thanks for looking into it! Craig
  9. The cache is GC3BNC5 - Tech Park North. It shows as 4.4 miles from my home coordinates. It is definitely within the radius of my notification limit. That was one of the first things I checked, to be sure my notification was turned on and hadn't changed. I also checked with two other local geocachers who did not receive the notification. I didn't want to report the issue if it was just me. Jon, if there is anything else I can provide to help with this, please let me know. Craig
  10. I didn't see another topic about this so am starting one. I was browsing the area caches around my home town and saw that a new traditional cache got published Saturday. I did not receive a notification about this new cache like I should have. I checked my email account to make sure I didn't just accidentally delete it or it got marked as spam. No trace of the email. So I contacted another local cacher. He did not get the notification either. And now I have confirmed with a 3rd person that he did not get the notification. Has anyone else had any problems with notifications not working from at least Saturday, Feb 4? Craig
  11. Hi all. I just wanted to let you know that in South Carolina, the York County History Series has given out all the coins so that series has ended. We will be updating all the cache pages shortly and the website. Thanks! Craig
  12. I would like to request a feature added to the statistics pages. I would like to see the total distance between all my cache finds. When you look at travel bugs, you can see the total distance the bug has traveled. I think it would be interesting to have that type of information for cache finds. I know I could do a bug drop in all my caches to get the info but having it built in would be much easier. Also, it would be interesting to see a map (again, similar to the TB map) showing cache finds. This one might get really messy as the number of finds increase so this might not be a good idea. Or maybe have a timeline on it so you can look at the map for a given time period. Thanks for all the great work and for considering this suggestion. Craig C&S 143
  13. BEST ADVICE: Contact GPSFun GPSFun will help as has been mentioned. Also, I believe DNR lands prohibit geocaches. And no graveyard caches. Craig
  14. With the addition of FAVORITES, will that information be included in pocket queries? It would be interesting to use GSAK to see how many favorites votes a cache has gotten as well as see how many my own caches have gotten in a myfinds PQ. Thanks! Craig C&S 143
  15. We should have the US date nailed down by early next week. As soon as we know, we will post it. The folks from Germany are talking about late August or early September. Craig
  16. Thank you to all who voted! The Charlotte area is looking forward to hosting the event! Craig
  17. The Carolinas bid has been submitted. Craig
  18. The Charlotte area bid is almost done. Should be submitted early in the week. Just a final few tweaks. Craig
  19. Go check out http://www.charlottegeocaching.com for the Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club. They have a list of the greatest hits of the Charlotte area. Also, check out http://www.yogosc.org/historyseries-1 where the York County Geocaching Organization has put together a history series. Get 12 of 16 caches and you can get a geocoin. York County is just south of Charlotte. Craig
  20. There is a group of us working on a bid to bring GCF2011 to the Charlotte, NC area. While I hope to host it here, if we don't get selected, I would support northern Florida as well. Craig C&S 143
  21. Please send me the cheatsheet as well. We are hosting a dinner in a few weeks in order to plan a large regional event (near Charlotte, NC) and I would really like to bring this up to them. GeoCoinFest 2011 in the Carolinas!! Craig (craig@yogosc.org) C&S 143 www.yogosc.org
  22. Lars, I just want to reiterate what Robert said. Check out www.charlottegeocaching.com. You will get all kinds of great advice on the best caches in the area and all the folks there are great people, too. There are a lot of great caches in the Charlotte area including the oldest cache in North Carolina. Also, if you are interested, the group I helped put together is called the York County Geocaching Organization (YoGO for short). We are just south of Charlotte. We have put together a geotrail we call the York County History Series. We have 16 caches hidden around the county in historic locations. We have a "passport" that lists all the locations. For each cache, there is a question on the passport. The answers are found around the cache locations. Once you get at least 12 answers on the passport, you can get a free geocoin from our county visitor center. For more information on the History Series and to download the passport, visit http://www.yogosc.org/historyseries-1. Welcome to the area! Have a great time and enjoy the caching! 23. Susan and I have only come across 2 snakes while we were out caching. One was a fairly large black snake. We were doing the Landsford Canal series of caches. While the snake by itself would not have kept us from continuing, we did have our dachshund with us. He hasn't been around snakes before so we don't know how he will react to them. Based on other small moving critters he has found, my guess is he would try to play with them. We decided to wait on the rest of that series. The other snake was just in the general area near a cache. Aside from that, snakes haven't been an issue. However, I do tend to use a hiking pole on walks in the woods. They help with balance and also checking those dark holes and crevasses for critters before you put your hand in there. Craig C&S 143
