And What did You lose at Shrops 2006?

Recommended Posts

After a spectacular weekend of Misfortune, misadventure, and FUN it would be interesting to find out exactly what the tally is for lost tents, gazebos, and other equipment.

Plus several other items are in my posession for returning if the owners want them back.

Late Sunday morning, it was determined that a TB would be launched in memory of this memorable weekend. And with thanks to Belplasca, who went rummaging through the skip to find just the perfect item, a piece of someones tent will be sent on its way. Will the owner of said item please step forward when you find it.

Well we were very lucky not to loose our tent, just one tent pole broken and in the process of being repaired as I type.

However we do appear to have lost the power supply for our Fujitsu laptop and the mains power supply for a Sony Ericson mobile phone. We are still in the process of hunting them down but it's not looking too promising as we are just about unpacked, the only place left is the tent which I'll be unpacking, drying and packing properly on Thursday.

One of our tents got damaged in the wind but we think it is repairable, unlike many of the others.

We did have another one so the geotrotters used that so they could stay the night.

We are very glad that out tunnel tent stood up in all that wind, I was so worried that it was not going to survive!

We have aquired a chair, I cannot remember the persons name who visited one evening and sat with several others in our tent when it was raining. He asked if he could look after his chair and would collect when he returned. He never did tho! Can the owner please step forward before our dog Daisy claims it as hers B)

We know the weather was against us all but it amused the kids, they loved being asked to lie on the tents etc to stop them joining the balloon festival!

Daisy managed to aquire a tick again....as one of the Hamien explorers did as well. We left them on the rally field tho, if anyone wants to claim them...they are welcome too! B)

The one thing that I will never forget is when a gang of non sober people decided to visit the Abbey all dressed up in their costumes. All bar 4 got stopped by the security guy. Tony and Bob were in their costumes, Tony dressed as a monk and Bob as a knight. Can you imagine what the other campers would have thought if they saw them in the Abbey at gone midnight?? ...wife wakes hubby up and says....OMG I have just seen a monk and a knight in the Abbey!! Husband replies....oh go back to sleep...ur dreaming dear! B):)B):D:)

The weather was bad but the spirits were high.

We really enjoyed the whole weekend thats for sure

it seams that i have misplaced a blue whitches hat with stars on it. it was borrowed from the lovley purple pinapples along with the rest of the costume wich i still have. if anyone has seen it can they please returne it as im sure they would like it back. i will also returne the rest of the costume.

lmn

I recovered that and passed it on to Helen in Mustardland (it didn't suit me :) ) - she said she'd make sure it found it's way home.

We're down a plastic beaker - I can cope with the loss though... B)

I'm down my favourite blue plastic beakers... they're great - they hold a pint of vodka and coke... B)

I'm sure I can make do without them for the rest of the camping events I'm going to... I'm just so pleased my tent stood up to the winds and made it home in one piece, otherwise I'd be out buying a new tent for this wekeend's camping event!

I don't think I lost anything else - only some dignity whilst sliding down a muddy embankment on my backside in the name of caching! (yes... I DID fall over!!!!!)

(Apparently, according to one of my usual caching partners, it's not a day out caching unless Hazel falls over - WITHOUT help from Mr Smirnoff!)

We were lucky not to lose anything (the tent is always well battened down as the weather is always bad when its used - we had a spectacular thunder storm last time!). The trailer moved about 10 metres, but missed hitting anything.

We did gain a few items, a wind break we bought BEFORE the storm; some guy ropes and an inner tent that I salvaged when I went bin diving.

I think we were one of a few unlucky ones losing a tent (along with Jan & The Percy Boys & the Ageing Hippy at least) with broken poles, numerous rather large rips etc. I've never been able to actually step through a hole in my tent before but there's always a first time for everything!:D Anyway the whole lot ended up in the skip in disgust.

We'll also have lost space to move around in next weekend when all 3 of us will be huddled up in the somewhat smaller tent.

We were lucky in not losing our tent although it did suffer a couple of tears. As the unpacking comes close to completion we discover that we are missing a somewhat dangerous rabbit and the equipment with which to dispatch him aka. The Holy Hand-Grenade of Antioch. Other than that we seem to have survived :huh::ph34r:

Hi,

Oh yes we lost our tent which was sad, it was unrepairable but we had one last night in it thanks to Hazels for pinning it down and Team Pheobe electric tape. I also lost my double blow up mattress which went down all weekend and a torch I have had for some time stopped working and it wasnt the batterys.

But you know, so what cus the event was sooo good.

Lost some tent pegs after my tent blew down, but thats nothing compared to the others who lost whole tents. Mine ripped too but I managed to tape it temporaily so I could pitch it for the one night. Thank you so much to Mongoose and the other cacher who's name I dont know :tired: for holding it down till we returned to the campsite, and to Pengy and Tigger who let us store our tent remains in their awning till the wind died down. Youre all heroes  The storm was so strong it managed to ram some of the support poles deep into the ground.

I'm glad my smalls were packed away - As we were making our way back to the campsite I had visions of cachers watching them fly around and getting stuck in the trees...

Well thanks to North Wales Police i have now lost £60 and gained 3 points.

The only place i have ever been clocked for speeding is North Wales.

We always drive carefully we always look for the speed limit.

We had just gone past a cyclist in Llangolen after turning right at the lights go round a corner speed camera van we knew as soon as we saw it 37 in a 30.

Wonder if it was there because of the balloon festival ??? and all those visitors what a strange coincidence.

Oh, and I know nothing of midnight trips around Abbeys. Wasn't me I deny everything :)

Well, judge for yourselves! The evidence (in full stereoscopic glory) is here!

I wonder if that last shot is next year's hog being ordered? :D

I was very lucky to only lose a couple of guy ropes and the tent was only slightly damaged, thanks to the rescuers who managed to hold it down and re-peg it whilst we were out, completely oblivious to the carnage going on at the site

THANKS, YOU GUYS!! it was the tent's first outing and it did us proud.

Looking forward to meeting you all again soon!

I think our only losses from the event were the Witches costume lent to LMN which I am sure will find it's way home, a nice big shield lent to Pete of House of Boo, and the first of two tents, which is not lost, but just in a rather icky mess in the boot of the car waiting to be returned to Argos. Oh and a crown, but we donated that to a nice little kiddie (not sure who's) so we're not expecting it back! Incidentally we gained Badger's fork and Helen in Mustardland's cereal bars, which were very nice! Ta sis! Will post the fork soon Matt, promise!

Have no fears PP the shield is still with us but has a few new battle "dings" in it. We'll replace it with a new shield or an alcohol equivalent the next time we meet (hopefully not to far in the future!).

Our tent survived the windy onslaught thanks to Pengy & Tigger and the HofBs Biodome en suite facilities unfortunately Peter did leave the event with his mind yet again in alcohol induced tatters... HURRAH! Till next year you beautiful nights of yore!

I lost my opportunity to attend. That's the worst opportunity of all to lose at a Shrop Bash.

I had a quite unexpected attack of grippy-tummy which persuaded me to pack away my gear and forget about travelling South this year for the otherwise annual Shrop Bash.

[swear words excluded to avoid the blushes in the few who don't understand these things]

I'm still very very severely pi##ed of at being unable to attend the best ever event of benevolent geocachers in any year.

Despite the eventual cr@ppy weather, I greatly regret my disability to attend the Shrop Bash this year.

I hope to be there next year, even if the weather's carp.

Cheers, The Forester

Chair now claimed by Team Tanner, we will hang onto it for you.

Daisy now has her own chair thanks to the sale at Asda

Ticks now at Anglsey awaiting my arrival with tick remover! grrrrrr

personally mate I'd rather the alcohol equivalent, but I've a feeling the Mrs is planning on putting it in the dressing up box! Dings are fine for the authentic feel, so don't bother replacing it or owt! Milton Keynes i expect! HURRAH indeed!

Many thanks to LollyBob, Geotrotters, Sparticus and others to hanging on to our tent whilst we were getting over the 150 mark - and soaked - last Saturday morning

Planning a trip to Wigan over half term to collect chair and some caches - will hopefully be in the hall of fame for 200 caches by then.

Thanks again to Team Maddie and others for their welcome and help at our first event!

Unfortunately students and real life have returned since last week! <_<

Hi all, It sounds like keeping track of TB's was the least of your worries! Any chance anyone knows where the bugs may have scurried off to? ;) There is still a fairly long list of TB's & Coins at this event. I'm looking for my Signal Jan coin. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

We are missing our 250th cache coin too, which we left in Team Maddies tent and never saw again :D

Actually, I have it here. I picked it up from a cache this weekend - not sure which as we did quite a few. It seems someone must have picked it up and placed it without logging it.

Awww! Thanks guys!! We really thought we'd lost that, which took the shine off the great event slightly. It's now been restored in all it's glory at the top of our short list of events. And to know the coin is back travelling is great as it is a kinda special coin to us. That's really made our day that has!:lol:

So that means we lost nothing at Shrops except our sanity...

One very happy deer.
