  1. I think Robin has just volunteered to organise it Good to see the Mega Event didn't put you off organising other events Robin. Happy to help out if I can...
  2. Lots of caches in striking distance of Haworth. Are you thinking if a day trip there or a longer stay? There are lots of family friendly caches in the nearby St Ives country park, and in Ilkley etc. You are welcome to email me.. Jill
  3. I enjoy using my N95 for caching, but you do have to have a mobile phone signal, in Norfolk we did find the coverage VERY patchy and therefore the Trimble software of little use. However if you have the info on the phone using some of the software mentioned above, it could still be used. Compared to the Mio PDA, with the N95 you have to stop when close to the cache, say 10 metres or so, then SLOWLY move, the arrow and distance indicator seems to catch up and can be very accurate. At other times it can be a few metres out compared to the Mio even with clear skies (well no tree cover - there has been a lot of cloud cover recently!)
  4. For those interested, the event and walk in Malham on the Wednesday before the Mega Event has now been published - GC1D732
  5. Sorry I don't, if you email katy (addy on the event page) I'm sure she will help. I don't think it will be too strenuous, they mentioned kids welcome, accompanied by adults. The distance is 5 miles done over 3 hours, but the pace is slow. There are stiles over the walls in Yorkshire, rather than gates which is why this is mentioned in the description. I'm sure that if we were going up the side of the cove to the limestone pavement it would have been mentioned.
  6. For those interested, the event and walk in Malham has now been published - GC1D732
  7. Here are the draft details for the walk... 3 hour walk starting at Malham National Park Centre (charge for parking). There is a picnic area behind the centre so people can chill there if they don’t go on the walk. Meet at 10.30am. The route will be over rough ground so suitable footwear needed and a moderate level of fitness although we will go at a slow pace. Dogs welcome but on leads at all times and need to be fit enough to go up over ladder stiles. We will look at the geology and archaeology of the area and anything else people are interested in and maybe a cache or two. I will chase up the listing of the event later today.
  8. You may like to consider the following in your planning... There is to be an event in Malham on the Wednesday before the Mega event which you might like to pencil in. The event page is being finalised, but the format probably be a picnic next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park car park preceeded by an optional walk a round the geology and archeology of the area. There are plenty of other caches and walks in the area including a village trail for those who don't take part in the walk. The caches around the Malhamdale Meander Challenge - GC10ED5 will give you a good idea of this spectacular area.
  9. Congratulations. Finally caught up with you recently after missing you at a few events that you only briefly visited.
  10. Yes if you can connect the IPAQ to the 3G mobile via say bluetooth, there are 2 options. Either get a 3G sim and pay monthly £10 per month on top of your normal contract for the Broadband lite service (not the Internet service) OR you can also do the same with a pay as you go 3 SIM, £10 gets 30 days access to the broadband lite add on service with a cap of 1Gbps. You can pay for more capacity if required. Make sure you pay for broadband add on as it is £1 per Mbyte if you don't. We have successfully used a monthly contract 3G '3' phone with a laptop and a Nokia N95 with a pay as you go '3' SIM. (You may find you can take the 3 SIM out of the 3 broadband dongle and put it into a 3G phone, I haven't tried this) I bought my PAYG 3 SIM online via Quidco £9.99, got £4 Quidco rebate. The SIM had £10 credit which I used to buy 1 months broadband service
  11. Sorry nothing as interesting as that on 'our section' just a World Heritage Site (Saltaire), one of the most famous set of locks in the UK (five rise and 3 rise locks at Bingley). protected woodland, historic houses (east and West Riddlesden Halls) and a medieval castle at Skipton. Some of the existing caches around us have been combined with others to make easy family walks. Perhaps this suggestion will finally get me to set the trail I have been talking about for months. (Just remembered there is a train station next to the canal at Saltaire, but there is already a cache close by. ) -------------------- Some sad local news Unfortunately there was a accident at Skipton a couple of days ago. Two girls in their late teens left the road in a car and went into the canal. It appears their bodies were not found for hours as the police are asking for information from 9.m. until 8 a.m. the next day.
  12. There are a few points of interest that haven't got caches as it passes Skipton/Bingley/Keighley. We would be happy to set one or two.
  13. I tried it out t the weekend - great especially the feature to mark a cache as found, then when back home, hey presto a ready made set of links to logs the caches! No more waiting for Geoff to log them and copying his list [] The GPSr accuracy didn't seem to be as good as last time I used the N95, but I think that was just finger trouble!
  14. We did a few last year in Lanzarote, although there were quite a few that looked as though they were either missing, or hard to get during the heat wave we had whilst there. The temps this time of the year should be much better. Some suggestions - If you are in the area GCC26C is an unmissable one. Half mile level walk to you own volcano GC13QEM - El Golfo Earth cache is busy but worth doing GCRKE8 - was a fantastic location - but go during opening hours Have a great time
  15. If you can get it to work on your PDA, smart2go http://www.smart2go.com/en/ gets you maps of anywhere in the world which will work the inbuilt GPSr. You can import cache coords using poiexpress which costs a few pounds. This is the mapping software that comes on the Nokia N95. Jill
  16. Details of the airlines and places served by Leeds Bradford Airport are available here - http://lbia.co.uk/ Flights are available to/from United Kingdom & Ireland Aberdeen Belfast City Belfast International Bristol Cork Dublin Exeter Edinburgh Glasgow Inverness Isle Of Man London Heathrow Newquay Plymouth Shannon Southampton For mainland destinations, they can be much cheaper than the train/driving depending on day, how much in advance they are booked etc. Manchester and other airports like Newcastle are much much further away. You could use the ferry to Liverpool, but I believe its expensive to bring a car across.
  17. You can use http://www.smart2go.com/en/ on an N95 but it will also work with other phones and PDAs. You can download streetmaps of anywhere in the world. We used it last year on Lanzarote.
  18. Well done - now I know why its taking Sarah so long to do those scrabble moves on Facebook - I thought you were reading a dictionary!
  19. The Dales Diva caches usually have information cards in them about the surrounding area, the ones we have done are arranged as long walks around an area of the Dales, although of course you don't have to do all the walk at once. There was a full page about Geocaching in this years free Yorkshire Dales Guide, the web site also promotes it http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/index/enj.../geocaching.htm - the web admin is a geocacher as well now!
  20. Geoffenator + clan will be arriving tomorrow probably sometime in the afternoon. Can't wait!
  21. Well done Alan!!! Puts my 'nearly' 400 into perspective!
