MotorBug
Its probably covered elsewhere, but I didn't find it here or in the Getting Started forum. What is the geo-etiquette for logging a find on a previous logged DNF? Change the previous DNF entry (a few days ago) to a find, or make a new entry? umc
DNF = Did Not Find? I would change the DNF to a found so that it takes it off of your DNF list. __________________________ Caching without a clue.... Quote Link to comment
southdeltan
I always leave the DNF (did not find) logs (even if there are multiple ones) and add a NEW log for the find. southdeltan "Man can counterfeit everything except silence". - William Faulkner Quote Link to comment
Doc-Dean
I agree with SD! --------------------------------------------------- Free your mind and the rest will follow Quote Link to comment
pnew
I would just post another log saying you found it. The DNF might show some other cachers that this cache is not the easiest one to find. Check out this cache for an example. Most of its finders still think its there, but its too far away to confirm lol. Quote Link to comment
Renegade Knight
Yup. Leave the DNF. It helps the cache owner and potential finders know that it could be a hard cache. Quote Link to comment
CYBret
I love my DNF's!!! There are stories in those and when I get to come back and log it as a find it makes the story all the sweeter. I even keep track of my "Found Did Not Finds" in my profile page. I've got a couple more that I'm looking forward to adding to that list. "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. +briansnat
A DNF is part of the cache history (and often they are the best stories). Leave it and log a new one. DNF's are nothing to be ashamed of and as a cache owner, I know I'd be slightly annoyed if someone started messing with the logs. "You can't make a man by standing a sheep on his hind legs. +wimseyguy
Make a second entry (or third or fourth if that's what it takes). The DNF's are part of the cache page's history, and frequently more interesting to read. I don't mind logging the DNF's but really love to clear those caches from my go get 'em list. +Xitron
As a n00b I had my first dnf this weekend. I thought about not logging it, but I did have such a great time hiking in and looking for it that I didn't think it fair not to mention it. The fun we had hiking the trail with all the others on the trail, and the view at the top were more then worth the trip. Yes I hated logging a dnf but the trip was more then worth it and the cache owner should know our thoughts. I see your lips moving but all I hear is blah blah blah Quote Link to comment
Alan2
I add a found log and leave the original DNF. It's OK not to be perfect! Nobody fails at geocaching but you also never graduate. Alan Quote Link to comment

MotorBug
Thanks for all the input. I went back and changed the DNF I had changed to a found back to a DNF and logged a new entry. Geeze, its great not to be perfect! Quote Link to comment
beejay&esskay
When I see cache logs that say "finally found after 3 attempts" and there were no previous DNF entries for that cacher, I think... Why are you so afraid to admit "deferred success"? DNFs are the inevitable battle scars. Quote Link to comment
