  1. Ahh sorry breakltrack, I know the feeling I found out the school I went to as a kid overseas was closed.
  2. ARMY Grunt from 84-88 1st cav Fort Hood Tx
  3. I serverd as well, but I do not see the need to create issues when there is none. What is so hard about asking someone who is in charge of something permission to use it in a way they have not thought of? The responses i see here seem to think that most land managers and rangers are power hungry apes that get off on saying no. Most of the rangers I have met have been nothing but helpful and plesent and just doing their best to protect the land they are in charge of. How many people do you know that say "hey I'm gonna become a park ranger and make my first million". All the people yelling its their right to place what they want, where they want it need to get a grip, yes this is the USA and you are free, but so is everyone else here and your actions effect us all. So when your freedom effects me I have an issue, cause its my right.
  4. I have only not found one cache I went looking for, not alot at 50 finds lol, but I felt it only right to log it as a dnf. I also went to a cache twice and logged a note that I went back instead of a find because I wanted the owner to know I liked it enough to go back twice. At the start it was about the numbers now I plan one or two a week so that it gives me time to explore the area and just enjoy being outside in the woods. As to the orginal point about others padding their numbers, don't worry about it just go out and have fun with the ones your with.
  5. I got a small Inova flashlight and it has come in handy more then once. I tend to go off trail and have used it to not only look in holes but to explore caves. For its size the X5 puts out alot of light and I'd recommand one for any hiker or camper you know. ps god I sound like a commercial, still I like it lol.
  6. I've been gone awhile to give you all a break lol, My question is simple. If you were in charge of something wouldn't you want to know if people where doing things that could effect your job?
  7. Some conflict is good. It's just a problem when a post is presented to just stir the pot that it becomes a problem.
  8. I agree it would not be fair to close a thread because of one or two people. What is the the second choice though? Are the Admins supposed to monitor all the users and their posts? No way that will happen, if a thread goes too off topic a admin should shut it down, not on a user basis but on a thread basis. Trying to monitor users is just insane and without a very large staff will never happen.
  9. Lets get this worked out it is a very noble idea.
  10. If you took any offense to what I said I am sorry, I may have misread your meaning and/or your intent. It just seems to me that you have stated your case, had it answered, then repeated your question because you didn't like the answer. I could be wrong, its been known to happen. I still think that the person who started the thread should be able to close it. Think of it this way, if I called you on the phone and we had a disagreement, could I just hang up on you? If you wanted to continue the discussion you could call someone else, but not on my dime...err 30 cents. Or is it 35 cents now?
  11. One cache I decided to bushwack and went way out of the way, I ended up seeing blue Herons, horses, and meeting a very nice couple. Its not all about the find.

I am getting tired of all the complaints about the admins and how they do their jobs. The joking part was my stating how to close down this topic, you know me and if I wanted to close it down I could, its really rather easy. My point is simple alot of people, myself included, are tired of the complaining and whining going on. I am not saying you are the one causing this, there are alot of negative threads out there and it just getting boring hearing people Bi**h all the time. I like caching and have involved others in it. The thing is I will not recommand they visit the forum at this time because of all the negative posts going on. I am sure there are others with the same opinion, though I will not mention any names. Who's complaining about admins here? I'm not -- and I said so in the beginning of the thread. If you want the thread closed so badly, then have it closed. Or you could be mature about it and simply ignore it if you don't wish to offer anything constructive to it. I'm glad to hear that you're tired of the complaining - as am I. But why are you bringing this up here, I'm not complaining about anything -- I'm only trying to get a reasonable discussion going to determine a logical reason as to why a person who starts a thread, has the means of which to shut it down if they don't like the way the discusion is progressing. No complaining there -- only asking a question. Sorry you feel embarrased to tell people about the forums, but that's your choice entirely. Perhaps if you and others kept discussions on topic, the forums wouldn't be so negative. ***** edit: typo [This message was edited by Jomarac5 on October 07, 2003 at 07:04 PM.] While you may not be directly blaming the admins it is clear to me that you are putting the blame on them. Just because you do not come out and say the admins s**k it is clear that is the message you are trying to make. You're smart enough to know if you came out and said it you'd be locked down, so you skirt the issue. You again bring up the mature issue, not sure why. As for you just "trying to get a resonable discussion going to determine a logical reason as to why a person who starts a thread has the means to shut it down". Its easy because he/she started it. If we were face to face and you didn't like what I said you or I can walk away. If you wanted to persue it you'd take it up with another person/thread. What is so hard to understand?
  13. I went to both of your links, now thats what caching should be about! Tell you the truth though you don't look heavy enough to crack an egg, how'd you break the canoe seat? lol j/k I'm on the light side myself.
  14. I think if you go and introduce yourself to the men and women who man the firehouse you could recruit them. I have had dealings with the firemen in my area and they are usually open to anything. They not only do their job and save lives but they volenteer their spare time to help others. If you approached them and told them you'd like to place a cache that celebrated the lives of those they lost I cannot see any of the ones I know not agreeing to it. I say go up and introuduce yourself, you'd not only get a cache placed you'd probably make some new friends.

  16. I've cached alone and with a friend, but it really became fun when we started caching with her daughter. It tends to add a different view on the hunt. Seen through younger eyes always makes it seem like much more of an adventure.
  17. I'll ask Sax to make it a night only cache!! lol
  18. hikemeister I say we go out and down a six pack! Oh by the way does anyone know any key words that close down a thread?
  19. quote:Originally posted by Sax Man's Wife:I think for me and my family (especially my 4 year old was last wednesday when we were working on the Quadrants series. We hiked to the end of a trail only to find out that they were bird watching that day at the peak. They happened to catch a sharp-shinned hawk while we were there. Me and my 4 year old got to realease it back into the wild after the weight and tagged it. That was pretty neat to be able to hold a wild bird and watch it fly out of our hands. That would be so cool to do, better then ducking flying ammo cans even. Doc maybe you should not post till you've read your post a second time lol. What if the wife is looking over your shoulder?
  20. I don't remember hearing it just waking up about an hour later.
  21. Doc if you did that in my office you'd be listed on America's most wanted as a missing person lol.
  22. I've been reading alot of negative posts lately and thought I'd start a different thread. This is really in response to a post I saw where someone was dismayed about the way the forums where going. So what I want to know is what is the best/funniest/interesting cache you have ever done. There are no restrictions here, if you had the most fun on a 1/1 cache or a 5/5 I want to hear about it. If you found it interesting for any reason I want to hear about it. To start things off, I once slipped down a cliff about 5' but my GPSr fell about 25' and landed right in front of the cache that I had spent about 30 minutes trying to find. Next
  23. I agree with diverMan, check the website for software and Firmware updates for your model. I bought my GPSr from Best Buy and the firmware was two versions old.
