  1. Thanks. It seems Samsung Tablet S5e 10.5" has a built in GPS hardware. But it's a two year old model. Samsung also has an 11" Tablet S7 that's new and more powerful. But it seems you have to connect an external GPS receiver to get a GPS signal although it will use the tower cell location to give you approximate locations. Are they accurate? Do you know if Geocaching app works on tablets? Google navigation maps? Do other apps like The Photographer Ephemeris also works as they use GPS location?
  2. I'm looking for a Tablet that has a built in GPS. I want to be able to use it to navigate in my car using my Android Galaxy cellphone as a hot spot. If I'm in the woods and out of range of cellphone towers, I can still locate my position, locate caches, and track myself. The tablet has to be able to add apps like I have in my Samsung Galaxy cellphone. Any recommendations? Thanks. Alan.
  3. Geocache Description: Near the beginning of the new world. Remote Alaska. Be prepared for anything. I've been watching this cache for 15 years. The fact that someone went through all the trouble to get to the beginning of the new world finally is just terrific. My hat's off to him. Congrats on your expedition. This is what makes caching interesting. It's the trip, mainly in my opinion, not just the find. Alan2.
  4. What charger do you recommend? SLow? Fast? Brand? My old batteries would fail after about ten charges. Thanks Alan2.
  5. My car GPS was stolen and I need another. I wanted to get something I can use as backup to my Vista HCx. Anyone familiar with Garmin 2360LMT? It has a three axle compass so I'm thinking of using it in the woods once in a while. Will it load 24k maps? Anything better or any recommendations you can make. I'm also planning on upgrading my phone in a few months to an iPhone or one of those types, so that should be a consideration as well. Thanks for you help. Alan.
  6. I think I got it. thanks. Alan.
  7. How do you stop auto emails since they started with the new update? At the bottom, it says "You can unsubscribe at any time by logging into your control panel and clicking on the "Manage Watched Forums" link in the "Forums" tab." Where is the Forums tab? (Geocaching web or forum web? Where is the tab? etc etc? Thnaks
  8. Here's the response I got from Garmin. It does have a magnetic compass. Problem is I'd like to get a GPS sooner. Can anyone make any recommendations? Tks. Alan2.
  9. What a waste. Why would they put an expensive 3-axis electronic compass just for that when you can also use it on trail with programming? Seems strange. I emailed Garmin and asked them to explain. Thanks for the tip. I won't buy it if that was the only thing it does.
  10. Anyone familiar with this one? It has a 3-axis compass that seems like it could be used off road as well. Can GSAK load the paperless on this one too? Can you also load the topo maps from that independent site? (forgot the name). I had a 765T but it was stolen. I liked the 765T becuase I could load paperless caching using GSAK macro and then route to the cache. But it didn't have the 3-axis compass like this new model the 2360 which would be helpful off road. If it works. Does it do all these things. Tks. Alan2.
  11. I still don't have an answer to: 3. How do you get waypoints to loadback into the Nuvi so the favorites appear in their original sections? For example, if I find a restaurant that's saved a a Favorite, the Nuvi keeps it in the Food sub-folder. However, when I transfer the waypoint to Mapsourse in my computer, clear Favorite in the NUvi and then download the waypoint to the Nuvi from my computer, it just goes in the main Favorites folders. The sub-folder are "gone". How do you correct that? To clarify, when I select a Favorite in the Nuvi, let's say a restaurant, it's put in a Favorite subfolder called Food. However, when I upload to Mapsourse, and clear all waypoints in the Nuvi and then download back into the Nuvi, all the various subfolders are goine. The restaurant appears with all the other waypoints in the main and only Favorite folder. How do you get it to go back into the FOod sub-folder?
  12. How do you get rid of archived caches. I've set up my queries to download all caches but I don't think eocaching sends those that just get archived so I don't know if they were? Solutions?
  13. I just got a Nuvi 765. 1. I'm using GPSFILEDEPOT's program that uses GSAK to create the paperless cache POI's. Is there a max or practical limit for the POI's that you can create? What's the advantages and disadvantages of placing it the memory card or in the unit's memory? 2. Is there a way to get the POI cache icons to appear above 200 foot scale? Wight now I'm also creating cache waypoints as Favorites (up to 1000) so they show on the maps at all time while I'm driving around but that's double the work to load and it's limited to 1000 caches. 3. Tks Alan2
  14. Is there a way of just charging the Nuvi 765 through the USB without the nunit staying on all night? Can't you shut it off while it's plugged in?
  15. Does anyone know is the Lane Assists for the 765T are updated through the map updates? I just got a 765T and updated right away. I"m not too concern about street changiong in 60 days. But the Lane Assist is kinda sparse at this time and I imagine these might have the biggest changes over the nearest future. Any inside info on this?
  16. I'm confused as to where and how to handle various files and waypoints in my Nuvi 765? 1. Points downloaded from Mapsource? How do I search for them in the Nuvi? How do you delete the points? 2. Points downloaded using POI Loader? How do I search for them in the Nuvi? How do you delete the points? 3. Which folder do you copy MP3 files into the Nuvi?
  17. The Vista HCx takes a memory card so you're not limited to the number of maps. I have all the northeast states and a good part of the south around 1.3GB of topos, Metros, Roads and Recreation, 24k topos etc, all but the City Navigator which I haven't tried. Like the Nuvi, you check which map series you want to use, and that's what's displayed.
  18. Here's a screenshot of the Nuvi 765T 24K map.
  19. Is there a way to trasnfer routes and tracks to the Nuvi? I can trasnfer waypoints OK.
  20. I loaded Mapsource and Topo and Roads and Recreation onto the Nuvi. They have trails, and additional roads and of course topo. All the info comes in handy when you route to a park area and then you can switch the Nuvi to these other maps. from Citi Navigator which loses a lot of smaller roads in parks. I can also now use Metroguide on the Nuvi. ALthough its old, Metro does have roads in the park areas that City Navigator doesn't have and the routing works with Metroguide too. Don't know how much I'll use it in the park since it has limited battery and can be damaged more easily. I'll continue to use my Vista. But seeing topo maps on the large Nuvi screen is impressive. Especially the 24K topos. I already loaded all these maps on my Vista except City Navigator. Are you sure you can't load it?
  21. I just got a Nuvi 765T with City Navigator 2010 for North America. Just downloaded the upgrade 2010.3 which is for free for the first 60 days after the Nuvi purchase. It added to my computer so I have it accessible in MapSource for use in my Vista GCx although I haven't loaded City Navigator yet. (I currently have Metroguide, US Roads and Recreation and US Topo as well as some other 24K topo maps loaded in the Vista) What's your experience using City Navigator over Metroguide? Should I load both? Which to use? (I notice that City Navigator does not have some roads in mountain that Metroguide has but City Navigator has other roads that Metro does not have plus more POI's. Metro navigates now in the Vista. Will City Navigator. Will Metroguide Navigate in the Nuvi? Can I select which maps I want to download into the Nuvi through Mapsource. As an aside, has anyone loaded Garmin maps like US Topo etc in the Nuvi 7x5 units? Problems?
  22. Sorry I paod $215 for new unit at Amazon. The $195 I saw there was for a refurbished uni765T. STill a good buy. They all seem to be dumping all these units at very good prices. Funny thing is I just got my PPC to work again with its own navigation program but it's going to be nice to have a Nuvi - a lot easier to use on the road. Tks. again. Al.
  23. Hey great thanks. I see from the macro page that most Garmins work with the macro including the 7xx series. I think I'll go with the 765T since it also has lane assist feature and traffic which would be great here in the NYC area. They also have it for around $195 from Amazon. Funny I checked yesterday and they were around $220 then $211. I should wqait a week and Amazon might be giving them away for nothing!!
  24. Does it load GSAK GPX files? And if so, how many?
  25. One other thing. Does it have full voice prompts or partial?
