+gpsfun Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 For Rhode Island I would use this URL: http://www.geocaching.com/local/default.aspx?state_id=40 For other states, change the state_id number from 40 to the correct one for that state. They are in alphabetical order and I think there is a list somewhere, but you can just try larger and smaller numbers and make note of the states that interest you. Quote
Pup Patrol Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Go here: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ and click on the location you want. Thanks to RCA777, here's the list: Substituting the ID # with the values below will give you different caches for different provinces/states. 2 Alaska 3 Arizona 4 Arkansas 5 California 6 Colorado 7 Connecticut 8 District of Columbia 9 Delaware 10 Florida 11 Georgia 12 Hawaii 13 Idaho 14 Illinois 15 Indiana 16 Iowa 17 Kansas 18 Kentucky 19 Louisiana 20 Maine 21 Maryland 22 Massachusetts 23 Michigan 24 Minnesota 25 Mississippi 26 Missouri 27 Montana 28 Nebraska 29 Nevada 30 New Hampshire 31 New Jersey 32 New Mexico 33 New York 34 North Carolina 35 North Dakota 36 Ohio 37 Oklahoma 38 Oregon 39 Pennsylvania 40 Rhode Island 41 South Carolina 42 South Dakota 43 Tennessee 44 Texas 45 Utah 46 Vermont 47 Virginia 48 Washington 49 West Virginia 50 Wisconsin 51 Wyoming B. +cerberus1 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) I'd just go to the US subforums in Geocaching Discussions by Country (where you already were in), click on a State and get the same list as shown by gpsfun. Edited April 1, 2015 by cerberus1 Quote
+hukilaulau Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 How long has THAT been there? I'm glad you asked in this forum. That's the feature that I missed the most during the "upgrade" a few months back. This is even better than when it used to be on your home page. Quote
+TriciaG Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Go to search page; leave first field blank. Click on "Change Filters." Put in my state/region. In my case, Ontario Uncheck the Events cache type Run the search Click "Placed On" header to sort by placement date (which is different than publication date, which you cannot search/sort on, anyway) Is this hard? ETA: If you want to limit the search area, put a distance in the upper left field in the filters menu. Edited April 6, 2015 by TriciaG Quote

+humboldt flier Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 P.Q. with date filters has been working for me for many years ... sure hope they don't "IMPROVE" that. Quote
+K13 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I usually read the email notifications to learn about the newest cache. Quote
+macatac1961 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Instant Notification Service. I also ran a pq for caches published near me in the last week and bookmarked the results. They even give you a mapping link. Quote
Keystone Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I merged two identical threads together, and removed some extraneous posts incident to the merger. Quote
+narcissa Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 If I was inclined to do this I would just set up notifications. Quote
+Mr. 0 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 From the front page, click the magnifying glass by the "Search for nearby Geocaches" search box. Click the "placed" header to sort by most recent. Quote
+redsox_mark Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 It is notifications for me. I subscribe to email notifications for caches in my area. I don't think I've ever done a search looking specifically for recently placed caches. Quote

I don't think I've ever done a search looking specifically for recently placed caches. As I mentioned in another thread, I use notifications but not for the purpose of playing the FTF game. It's just the best mechanism for letting me know that there is a new cache in the area. I have a couple of PQs set up that will generate a list of local caches but generally I don't bother looking at them unless I'm planning on going out to do some caching (which happens infrequently). I know a few cachers who have found most of the caches in the area, so notifications let them know there's something new to find even if they're not planning to rush out and find it right away. I have a notification set up for events in the area. That has nothing to do with FTF. Quote
+JL_HSTRE Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I get the weekly email newsletter to learn of upcoming events and new caches near me. I also ran weekly PQs for some specific kinds of hides. Quote

+fuzziebear3 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I have a pocket query called newish -- its criteria are 1.) placed in the last month, and 2.) within 100 miles of my home coordinates. Do a preview on that query whenever I want to see what's new. Quote
+niraD Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 How do YOU find most recently placed caches? what's your method? I generally find them days/weeks/months/years later, after the bugs have been worked out. Quote
+edscott Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Open a map centered on my house and zoom out until I see an unfound cache. Quote
